As a songwriter for over twenty years, with no support or relationships with musicians/music industry people, my love for the art of songwriting definitely got me through. It takes a bit more if you don't have people in your life encouraging and validating your work; but it is possible if you stay true to your self and that place of deep knowing.

A good song has magic sprinkled in one or two ways, A great song has magic sprinkled throughout. My songs lack a second sprinkle . My ear knows that so that is just barely enough to keep me coming back for more. Keep at it and be open enough to take good advice and just keep swimming.

Yes, it's definitely easy to get discouraged at times. Love both the nail in the wall story and the Garth Brooks story! 👍 Looking forward to your 3 week course this month 🎶

Death is a motivator. Walking in that valley. It doesn’t matter if I am talented or not.
What matters is the words living in my heart.
As each of us are a unique expression while we walk this earth.
Who am I singing for? As a bluebird in early morning light.
What colors do my feathers show as I take flight?
Do I let the winds hold my wings down? Or, fly with all my might.
    Who am I singing for?
While I still walk upon this earth.
    Blessings to you. JoAnn Forsberg.

Awesome Stuff Guys...when I first started out, I didn't know it was really the great songwriting drawing me in. I thought it was just the great performances that resinated with me, but that was only part of the equation...trying to emulate the great players and singers became my main focus not knowing later I would need the expertise of the great songwriting skills of Marty Dodson and Clay Mills...Thanks Y'all...!

support system is great...but I don't think most really understand the ups and downs of just writing songs...I get support from your videos by relating to the messages...I was reworking a song just now by rewriting it a different way..paused the video at 7:13... the first line was good, but that's as far as it got...now I'm finishing your video

the people you wanna get support from should not be the ones closest to you. i'm sure your mum is gonna love whatever you do.

P.S. - Clay & Marty...I really dislike getting into a room with bulldozing writers that engage in disparaging co-writers to others in the room, shows up late hung over or high without a guitar or a song start for the session and then has to leave in 30 minutes. Y'all been there...you know the one that's a big star just waiting for their artist ship to come in...and your just a lowly ol' songwriter...Man...yes it happens and I wouldn't ever write with a writer like that again...like ever...lol..!

i agree, talent is overrated. when you watch these talent shows, it's easy to think that your voice is everything. it is not.
