Fun fact the USS Helena was at Pearl Harbor. Several attackers mistook her for a battleship and attacked her but her crew managed to quickly get to battle stations and get the emergency generator on restoring power to the guns. She fired approximately 375 shells from her 5-inch guns, around 3,000 rounds from her 1.1-inch guns, and about 5,000 rounds from her .50-cal. guns. She is credited for downing six Japanese aircraft and her heavy anti-air was believed to disrupt the aim of several attackers. She would eventually be sunk at the Battle of Kula gulf in July of 1943 and out of 1200 men only 168 would perish.
Also that pepper box video of them going around all the tanks and things was pretty good.
Yes that was a bird. Randy Johnson threw a baseball in the 90s instakilled it. Will always be a video in my head as a 90s kid.
Randy Johnson is one of the greatest pitchers of all time. His throws are so powerful, that bird was vaporized!
@8:46 I absolutely love the WKUK reference. You and Nic are truly men of culture.
Fun fact...the Germans did eventually figure out the tech themselves, and had developed a proximity fuse that worked, but it was just about 1945 by that time and Germany could not produce enough of them fast enough to make any difference so close to their defeat.
Also, the early British work on proximity fuses was sent to the USA for further development as part of the Tizard Mission in September 1940, which also transferred the details of the UK's early work on their "tube alloys" atomic bomb program. That happened in September 1940.
And the proximity fuses did not make the air bursts possible...that came back in the early 1800s when timed fuses on exploding shells were first invented...think of the "bombs bursting in air" in the Star Spangled Banner. But the proximity fuses took pretty much all the guess work out of the process and made each barrage much much more effective. The Germans also used air burst during the Battle of the Bulge and in the Hurtgen Forest, but they were less effective because they used the standard old way of manually setting the timed fuses.👍
Randy Johnson vs bird... Randy won
Agreed with the Last Jedi comment.
The Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) has around 48 aircraft
aww, Nick did listen the US history teachers, who told the US version of so called World Wars. I wonder what is the history of Korea, Vietnam, Afganistan etc, conflicts you - never lost...
asking as someone not from US, are the "other versions of history" more accurate than the US version? Which independent governing body judges which version is more accurate than the ones taught in US schools? who gives assurance that the other versions are free from bias and is not in anyway altered or restricted to maniulate the public? Were the dates mentioned incorrectly in the US version? Were the events discussed not reflected fairly? Were the actions incorrectly attributed to a different person? Were speculation presented as facts? Were facts presented in a way that it would be subject to misinterpretation?
He's made multiple videos on events and people from all of those wars. Hell, he was IN one of them.
Won Korea, lost Vietnam because of politicians being stupid, completed all objectives in Afghanistan then when we left the government that we had supported collapsed, so we won until we got tired of being over there
Also why did you say So called world wars, there was fighting on 4/7 continents, and most oceans, hell there were deaths on mainland America from balloon bombs.
