Lindsey Buckingham wrote the music in 1971 when he was very ill for a year - then the lyrics in early 1974 after his father died. You can feel the pain and darkness. It was meant for the 2nd Buckingham Nicks album but debuted (along with several other BN songs) on his first FM album the self titled Fleetwood Mac in 1975. Sadly it was recorded in too high a key which for some reason was not re-recorded. Also, far shorter at 4+ minutes - while a purely instrumental version on the Deluxe album release is 7+ minutes. Live it's an absolute monster - some later versions clock in around 10 minutes. It's a concert staple for Buckingham - solo or when he was in FM. This is from a reunion special in 1997 called The Dance - which also marked the 20th anniversary of Rumours.
I was fortunate to see Fleetwood Mac in 1975 and 77. They are great live and are totally different than on record. This is one of my favorite song. To hear Stevie Nicks voice back then was overpowering. She put it all out as did all the band. Thanks for reacting to this song!
Oh my goodness, that was awesome🤩. What a great interaction and performance of these instruments 🔥 - I loved it 💗🤩. I know some of the Fleetwood Mac songs but this was new to me. One of my favorites is THE CHAIN, which you've already reacted to. Freddy, terrific choice, especially this live version 🤩👍. Agree 💯 with your reaction HAP. It has a bit of a PINK FLOYD vibe to it and that’s the reason why it reminded me of ALAN PARSONS. Because he was the genius behind at Abby Road Studio’s of Pink Floyd’s THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON 😍. Also an artist worth a reaction 🥰🙋🏻♀️.
"I'm So Afraid" is off their album The Dance, released in 1975 and written by Lindsey Buckingham. It certainly showcases his guitar skills!🎸🎶🎤. Thanks for the great reaction Hap. I really enjoyed it so much!!💥
That was fantastic!! Yess! It was PINK FLOYD-ish in some ways! The energy of FLEETWOOD MAC outstanding! ! Thanks for another amazing reaction, Hap! You are totally tuned into every detail of a song truly a gift. 💜🎵 after hearing the song and reaction I really like it! Great, great choice, Freddie 👍
Wow! A new one for me. First saw them live in 1976? 77? After one of their break ups and Stevie went solo I moved onto her albums. I should have gone back! Way to rock it out Lindsey! (and Mick) Great choice Freddie! That said. Can I have Stevie's dress please? 😃 Speaking of showing up on my feed. 11 hours after you posted this I finally see it! YT has been very weird for me lately!
New one for me. Fleetwood Mac was my Aunts favorite band. I believe The Chain was her favorite. Great reaction, as always. Hap ✌️ ☮️ ❤🎶 Thanks for the new introduction Freddie 😊
His vocal performance in this as an older man compared to original in 70's is so much richer, the nuances in his voice are beautiful. Same for his guitar prowess 🥰🤩
Silver Springs from the same concert- if it doesn’t give you chills, nothing will! You want some great guitar? Big Love from the same concert… This whole concert was mind blowing!
Surprisingly, I enjoyed this song as I'm not a Fleetwood Mac fan. I loved the instrumental part at the end as there was no singing. I know this won't be popular but I struggle to listen to Stevie Nicks as I find her voice sets my teeth on edge. I loved the original Peter Green led Fleetwood Mac which, I'm sure, makes me a dinosaur! 😃 Thanks for the reaction, Hap. 💕
I love the way you let the whole song go and then speak at the end. The bass/drum section in Fleetwood Mac is legendary and here they prove it. And what can one say about Lindsey, we always say this or that guitar player is underrated, but he really is. That last solo is in my top 3 EVER definitely. This song is a rollercoaster of emotions, floydesque maybe like Crazy Diamond (a "space blues" somebody called it). Thanks for choosing it!
yep!! I know what yaa mean bud...went back and played it time after time after time in the 70s and again in the late 90s when I bought the DVD and was still youngish enough to enjoy with good vision and hearing 😅...it is awesome...like the rest of their music...
Lindsey Buckingham makes a musical journey out of the 4'-song of the white album 1975, lets off steam on the guitar in a rocky-bluesy way. Freakier is just Not That Funny, both on the terrific live album 1980. However, I also love this later version of The Dance in 1997. Thanks, good choice.
Loved it!!🔥🔥🔥 Lindsey is a virtuoso! Silver Springs from the same concert is worth a listen..though 1st check out the history between Stevie amd Lindsey.
Love this song, but I wish you'd watched the 1982 version from their Mirage tour, it's so much better than this one. Well, maybe that's subjective, lol. Maybe check it out and compare. I just think he sounds better in the earlier performance, more emotional, not straining as much. Plus, Christie McVie sings the backup with him on the second verse and it's just haunting. ruclips.net/video/noV_Nchw3Ig/видео.html
It's really good!! There's also the earliest '76 Rosebud version. To be honest I could never decide which is the best, all of them have something to cherish. It's always PERFECTION :) ruclips.net/video/v5kOzGwsHXw/видео.html

True! I have the DVD and I've played it to death, definitely one of my favourite filmed concerts ever!

The dance was the name of the concert 😊
When I first heard this song back in the 70s it convinced me Buckingham is one of the all time greats on guitar.

Good pick great reaction.
Glad you enjoyed
You have to check out the live 1975 version of this at Santa Barbara college (the rosebud video) it is fire!!
Do you know when Lindsay starts getting the Bob going, he's feeling that juice!! Lol
Go Insane is another great performance from The Dance concert
Great underrated guitarist…..and he sings too……..

And he had a solid backup band...
The dance is an album by Fleetwood mac that the song I'm so afraid is off of.
