Had the pleasure of seeing this process in person. Matt sold me the Ohana Pineapple Tenor not too long ago. Great guy. Will be back for my second Uke one day.

I got a Makaio MSMB-10 Spalted Mango Baritone from Aloha City Ukes last year. It arrived with the set up exactly as described in this video. The frets and fret board were nice and clean. The ukulele had been polished with not a single finger print on it. All I had to do was tune it and start playing. It almost frets itself the action is so good. Quality instruments with quality service.

Matt loved the set up and service when I came to visit a few weeks ago. Loving my Lanakai baritone in the quilted maple. Thanks so much. Denise

I bought an Ohana TK50 WG from Aloha City a couple of months ago. The setup was great and they put some new strings on it for me; I hope I never need to change the strings because the way they put them on just looks super cool lol.

How about the intonation to see if the notes are sharp or flat up on down to the 12th. Fret?

I bought an acoustic electric uke not too long ago from your store. Set up was terrible!! Preamp buzz was horrible, and the G and A strings were completely dead. I took the saddle off to discover your tech had sanded the saddle so badly, it was shaped like the letter “U” underneath……Meaning the saddle was not even touching the piezo pickup at either end of it! I mean, either he didn’t care, or just didn’t know how to sand a saddle!?? I had to replace the saddle with a new one myself and sand it properly. Now all 4 strings are even in volume.
I addressed the horrible buzz by finding out if I touch the jack it went away, showing a grounding issue, that should have been discovered or noted before sending it out to me. Isn’t that the whole point of a set up?!?! Finding issues before sending it out to a customer? So an acoustic/electric is never even plugged in to test? I once again solved the problem myself by isolating the preamp by wrapping it in copper tape. It quieted the buzz 100%. I have spent a lot of money buying several ukes at your shop in the past few years. And I was going to contact your shop to complain, but just decided to not be a customer anymore. I do better buying a uke direct out the box and setting it up myself….at least I don’t have to UNDO what a “tech” ruined. I decided to just let the issue slide, but you make a video bragging about your set up? Maybe if you personally did the set up it would be done with care, but I know you don’t do the set ups or are hardly ever even in your own shop.
And I have since bought the same brand uke same style, just a different wood, and you know what? It was perfect out the box and the preamp was dead quiet! Meaning it wasn’t just an issue with that line of ukes, you just sent out a bad one without even plugging it in and testing it.
It’s a shame, because you are a really nice guy, and so is your friend who answers the phone and does the setups, but incompetent setups are unforgivable. And this set up video is not what I experienced.

Also I’ve never received a uke that had the fretboard oiled. I have that oil, and have had to do it myself, because the fretboards were dry as a cracker.
It’s a shame, because to give credit where credit is due…you really have good prices, some of the best….and shipping was always fast, and the ukes are well packed. But you are not the one doing the setups, and the one who does… doesn’t know what he’s doing.
