Owned an MGA 1600 MkII for AGES. (I was Constantly 'looking for Fifth Gear,' and never found it. Looks like a Real Fine Set-up, with a five-main-bearing "B" engine. {And the O.D., of course!})
If you can engage the OD in all four gears, there is a serious problem in your setup. The trans should have gear activated switches that limit the OD engagement to your top gears only. Beware, the problem with using a straight on/off switch is if the OD is engaged and you back up, you will crater the one way clutch (sprag) in the back of the unit. I have rebuilt and repaired many of these before retiring, some for what I mentioned. To eliminate this possibility look up a schematic for an 80's Volvo 240 and convert it to a push button relay activated system that disengages the OD automatically when not in the top gears.
Great advice, Kenz. All this would be very necessary if the car was driven by an uneducated person and not myself. For me, the car has performed perfectly with the setup as is for the past 10 years.
@@classicperformance Just making sure you are fully aware . I had multiple A's and a BGT that served me well. Loved my 60 model stock 1600 with a removable hardtop. Spent many years as a factory trained British and Volvo master tech. Drove 240 Volvo's for years also. Retired 3 yrs ago, thanks for the video and wish the best of luck to you.
Hey Doug. Your ‘62 looks and sounds great. Nice colour combo with the ox blood and black. These cars have door window inserts when the rag top is on right?
Yes, MGAs do have a side window system that mounts with pins in the door, has a metal frame and hard plastic sliding windows. With the top up, you will still have to slide the window open to release the door opener from inside the car. These windows are known as "side curtains". I will picture them in another video soon.
Hi Doug another really great set up MGA nice sounding exhaust . Those mk 2s look a bit more civilised than the 1s love the covered dash and sunk in grill. How hard was it to widen the gearbox tunnel was there a lot of welding when I mentioned I was thinking of doing this to mine the guys at the MG Club of South Australia gave me a dirty look. As I said before I ended up going for the Mazda five speed kit. I believe these cars should be used and not just stared at and kept in cotton wool in the shed. I get more use out of my 59 now with the new gearbox than I did before and even the Mrs likes driving it so win win. Stay safe mate. 👍
Really liked the car and the video. But as a former MGB-owner I would say that the overdrive only works in third and fourth gear and not in all four gears like you proposed. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this particular car.
My first car was a '62 MkII. Blue with a black interior..... you're making me a little misty. I paid $1295.00 for it in late 1966 and it had 2200 miles on the odometer.... Don't think I can afford or justify the cost of building a garage to keep it in...... but if you can match the price of my original for the car, I just might be able to swing both.
Ha! I think you can swing at least an MGB roadster! Might need a little work and there are plenty out there for very reasonable prices, especially if you want a later rubber bumper B!!
@@classicperformance Naw,... B's never appealed to me [except the engine/trans]....... I actually traded the MGA in on a used BJ7 in "71..... and sold that several years later. Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda,,,,,,, . Guess I'll just have to settle for melancholy memories.
At 6'2 200 pounds and a 32' pant leg, I would say ample room. I have taken the MGAs on 2ish hour trips and also day-long cruise events with no problems. The pedals are tight so no big shoes. I like driving shoes. An MGB has tons of footwell room and also leg extension room. I have been driving MGAs for over 20 years and are tons of fun, easy to work on, and parts and ownership are very reasonable compared to porsches, jags and even healeys.
I really want to get my Hands on any of the small Body on Frame Roadsters and swap the Triumph Rocket 3 Motorcycle Engine in. That Engine needs to be in a light Sportscar.
@Reinald Smith, You are most correct. I used a GoPro Hero 2018 black and it does not have pro tune software tools to control the audio attenuation or to be able to select from stereo 2-ch audio to "wind" setting and is automatic. Very disappointing!! I have since upgraded with a firmware patch and audio will be much improved. New aviation videos are up with audio changes. Check it out and let me know what you think! Thanks for the interest and view!

I own a 1962 MGA and i love it
Yes, John!!! Thanks for the comment and interest!
Would love to have a roadster within the next year or two so I’m starting the research. Looking forward to another video about this car.
Thanks for the view and comment David, keep us posted!
These are honeys of cars a decent one now is inaround 25k couldn't believe that the one I have had been around for forty years
@@jbstepchild yea, I purchased the red one as is in '05 for less than 10k. They are trending up following big Healey prices.
I’ve had my 1600mk II for 40 years. I intended when the engine had a major meltdown I’d repower as above. Still waiting!
I had a 1961 mark 2 back in 1966 , loved the car P.S. your speedometer is jumping !
Thanks for the interest and comment, Mark.

No real fabrication involved at all Geoff. Pretty straight forward anyone w a decent home shop can do.
@@classicperformance You did a great job.👍
Are your MGA's still for sale?
Yes, go to the Instagram page and DM.
Beautiful! MGB speedometer cable?
Yes indeed, MGB cable and MGB electric tach with an MGA face. The later MGB engines do not have the mechanical tach drive cable connection at engine.

Anders, you are most correct in the way all MGB ODs worked. 3-4 activation only. Thanks for the info.
