Cozy played with so many of the greats he could have his own iceberg. Jeff Beck, Blackmore, Iommi, Schenker, Moore, ELP, Lynott... What a career. Unparalleled.
Don't forget DIO m'fer
@tmmyjay Cozy never was a member of Dio (the band). He played with Ronnie in Rainbow. That's probably what you meant to say, m'fer.
@@evanward4303 You mentioned various people. DIO is a person correct?
Argue much, m fer
@@seandowning5918 Just with morons who like to act like they know it all. Thanks for asking. Leaving DIO off the list is a hanging offense where I come from. Now suck it.
One of the best drummer in the world
Happy 77th birthday
Cozy Powell. Superb drummer, sadly missed.
I have been looking for this video since 1974,Thanks for uploading this
Saw Bedlam open for Black Sabbath and Blue Oyster Cult in Rochester ny 1974,great night!! RIP COZY 🕊🕊
That would be a helluva show!!
I saw them in Buffalo that tour with Black Sabbath and the James Gang, my first of many concerts..... Quiet memorable until the "Big Bambu" joint came down our row, needless to say things were a little sketchy after that!!! 😂
@debbiegoss4475 nice, James Gang without Joe Walsh, they must've really got thier asses kicked, all do respect to Tommy Bolin 👍
@@georgebirch5635 yeah, James Gang without Joe Walsh isn't really the James Gang but with Roy Kenner and Tommy Bolin they were pretty damn good, I saw them again in July 74' at Rich stadium, they opened for Lynyrd Skynyrd and ELP
Saw Cozy with Coverdale and Whitesnake in Chicago in 1984. Brilliant. RIP Cozy.
Saw them in Indy the same year.
Probably just days apart.
I met Dave Ball in 2010, after seeing Procol Harum live in concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. He was in the audience. He signed the album and CD for me. May Dave Ball and Cozy Powell rest in peace. Cheers!
Hey Dwayne😃ROCK ON!!!!!!!🤘🏻🤙🏻✌🏻
@@MrMegaFredZeppelin Hello Fred! Cheers, and ROCK ON! ✌️
Saw Bedlam at the Marquee club in London early 70’s.
Cozy playing the red sparkle Ludwig.
Brilliant!👍🏻🇬🇧
Sensational... that drummer is off the hook, crazy excellent!!
Awesome guitar, too.
Happy Wednesday... thank you for sharing! 💖
I saw Cozy with Bedlam once. They opened for Black Sabbath. I worked for the promoter. And before that twice when he played with Jeff Beck. He was a powerhouse.
How old are you?
@Defundemorats Old enough to know better and young enough to still put up resistance . Buddy Holly/ Alaska + Hawaii becoming states . J F K blown away . Etc.....
*_Thanks for Great share👍 R.I.P. Cozy_*
Cozy Powell! Yes indeed
OMG. Cozy Powell was one of the greatest Drummers ever
Indeed so. The late, great Neil Peart of Rush was undoubtedly the finest rock drummer ever. Then it's a toss-up between Cozy Powell, John Bonham and Keith Moon for second place.
This is the first time I've seen a BEDLAM video. Thank you!
Me too.. and I was in the band!!
@@dennyball2055 Wow! The real Denny? Awesome!
@@dennyball2055 Knowing that Cozy grew up in the Cotswalds , was he adopted by a wealthy family?
@@robertcarli1969 No, his mum and dad were 'normal' people. They lived in Cirencester.
@@dennyball2055Cozy 4evr😍
Never seen video before ? never too late (50 years !) to have it, thx !
Never seen these before. Thanks!
A precious 🎁 from the Burt Sugarman vault.
R.I.P. Cozy Powell🙏🏻🥁ROCK ON!!!!!!!🤘🏻🤙🏻✌🏻
Love the Sunn bass and lead amps and cabs!
Wicked drummer! Fantasticly gifted .What a treat to see this throwback. ❤😊
Never heard of them but pretty heavy for the time. Love it!!
A blast from the past!!! Too cool!!!
Super drummer! Cozy was fantastic...
I was lucky enough to see Cozy 5 times, first with MSG, then twice with Whitesnake, once with Black Sabbath and lastly with Brian May. Watching him playing Dance with the Devil on Top of the Pops, was the whole reason I want to and in deed did play drums. The man's a legend and still sadly missed.
I had no idea Cozy did Midnight Special. Amazing!
GET ON WITH IT,Cozy!! 🥁
This is really cool. RIP Cozy
Saw Cozy twice with Rainbow in ‘76 and ’78 in Shreveport Louisiana. I wish his solo albums Over The Top and Tilt were available for download.
Third Stone From The Sun.
Yes, THANK YOU!
I saw Cozy play for Rainbow. Heart and the Dictators opened. I had tickets for earlier in the week when BeBop Deluxe was opening but car issues arose. (:
Just re run this, glad the cat got a mention.. 😂
Thank you. 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That a cool one. I never knew who made this song, but I liked it. 😎💜
Third Stone from The Sun 🌎 / Jimi Hendrix 🎸
Please Check Santana's Cover 👍🏻(◠‿・)-☆🎸 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Yep it's a hendrix cover.
Not even half as good as the original.. mixed with dance with the devil.
@@karlsinclair9918 I'd have to listen to Hendrix, and I'm sure you're probably right, but this wasn't bad. ✌️
Turned the beat around for a second-Cozy took them them back😂❤
Great drumming!!
So Great !!!
Cozy Powell's drumming is the highlight of this jam.
The guitar riff reminds me of a Jeff Beck song.
May all R.I.P.
I always thought Cozy looked like Jeff. You could say Cozy Powell is the Jeff Beck of drums!
The main riff in this is from Hendrix 's tune Third Stone From The Sun.
@@paullevine1813 l know that song. Thanks.
Third Stone From The Sun!!!
Thank You T M S
Super ❤
100% the coolest thing. ⚡️🤘
Cozy! Power Drummer extraordinaire 👍
third stone from the sun by Hendrix
They just acted like ir was Their melody . Great Tune Tho and Cozy was one of the Best Rock Drummers ever !
Yeh, how about that?!
None of us 'wrote' the melody. Mickie Most was credited as 'writer'. Most was well known in the UK as a 'producer' and record company (RAK) owner.
@@dennyball2055God love ya, Denny! ♥️♥️♥️♥️✌️👏
That drum intro sounds just like the intro from Boney M’s “Nightflight To Venus,” so I had to look up dates. Bedlam was 72-73, “Nightflight” was 78, so I know where Farian copped that drum riff from.
Yep, it was ripped officially
Typical Farian.
A bunch of Legends 😎 Cozy
Rock On!!!
Anyone recognizing the intro as a Boney M tune is right. Cozy gave his buddy permission to use the part he wrote for this song. Didn’t ask for any royalties.
Cozy was 1 of the greats!
Cozy😍
3rd Stone from the Sun
コージー最高すぎる!!
Emerson, Lake & Powell for a short while
I saw this band back in the seventies,( l think they were supporting a Jon Hiseman band, who had Gary Moore on guitar.I think my ears are still damaged. They certainly had the right name! This all took place at Eric's club,Mathew St,Litterpool,(1974,l tink.)
Cool vest bro
Powell....With "P" of POWER!!!!
R.I.P. Cozy Powell.
Wow, Drums Are Singing.
amazing snd fantastic!! (^o^)/
That kit needs to be in an exhibit somewhere.
It is-in Japan 😂❤
I saw Bedlam open for Black Oak Arkansas and Black Sabbath.
Shakin hands with the man!!!
I didn't know Cozy Powell was appearing in the Midnight Special.
The drum intro will be sampled in Rasputin by Boney-M!
Post the other song they also played.
Sounds like Hendrix 3rd stone
👍😃
Cozy rocks, man, that guitar player, we are not talking about Tony Iommi here that's for sure frown!
That's Dave Ball (ex Procol Harum). The guitar part was the melody from the Cozy Powell record which session musicians played on. Dave and I were not involved in the single which was released as a Cozy Powell solo record. The only time we played this tune in the USA was for this TV show. We didn't play Dance with the Devil during our tour with Black Sabbath. (The other track we played on the Midnight Special "Set Me Free" was more of what we were all about as Bedlam.)
Where is that Les Paul right now??? Asking for a friend...
don't forget Emerson, Lake and Powell
Who at the bass guitar?😂.......,Cozy #1👌🏼
Me!
Rainbow Folsom field 1982 when rainbow continued to be shouted during most of the scorpions set and the crowd walked out on REO speedwagon?
Nugent was good but Rainbow WHOLE NOTHER LEVEL!
LOOK OUT!
Who is the bassist?
Me.
Cozy is brilliant!
BUT, this drumming reminds me, quite specifically, of Peter Criss in the vintage, original KISS.
Both are fantastic, but only one gets the fawning.
And that ain't right.
⚡
Peter Criss may have been a good drummer but Cozy’s career went on for much longer. He played with many great bands and was on a different level. He brings back more memories for more fans, so he naturally receives more ‘fawning’ as you call it. I’m sure Kiss fans appreciate Criss, as they should.✌️
@@Blue_3rd Of course, I get that about Cozy Powell playing in all those bands, etc. I love him as well. I'm only noticing the strong similarly in his playing here. I think anyone would.
And Cozy is obviously, a superior drummer. I just think that certain musicians get the short thrift from people, for stupid slanted reasons.
There's not one "honest" musician out there who would not agree that the Peter Criss solo on 100,000 Years is brilliant! -- On ALL of KISS Alive!, from beginning to end.
And this playing by Cozy here, instantly reminded me of PC.
Bought this as a single when it first came out. An early introduction to my love of rock music. I seem to remember it was "Cozy Powell and Hammer" or something similar at the time. Have I got that wrong? I don't remember the name "Bedlam". It was fifty years ago, blimey!
Also, could anyone tell me the name of the guitarist and bass player in this clip. Any info much appreciated!
Cozy has always been one of my favourite drummers. Loved the stuff he played in Rainbow. Those were the days!
I was the bass player (Denny Ball) I was called Dennis at the time. My bro Dave (ex Procol Harum) was guitarist, Frank Aiello was vocalist and Cozy. (We know what he played!)
@@dennyball2055 Thanks very much for the info. Excellent stuff. Bet you had a lot fun!!
Guitarist should’ve checked his tuning before performing
Anything else you'd like to critique? The colour of my bro's socks for instance? Perhaps my shirt was too loud for the cameras.
@@dennyball2055lol....you're 50 years too late
@@dennyball2055 the guitar was out of tune. Fact.
@@armandom28jeez, some people can't face reality...
This was a big hit in England, wasn't it??
Yes early 1974 , had 3 hits that year ,the man in black a na na na 👍.
That drum beat was used again by Boney M in Rasputin
Playing Jimi Hendrix Third Stone From The Sun bombastically. Rip off
That's down to the 'writers' of the 'Dance with the Devil' recording. Cozy made the recording "For a laugh" and it became a big seller. A guy called Mickie Most took credit for the melody.
Axis Bold as Love riff?
No Third Stone from the Sun
Dance with the Devil?
I found it interesting that that drum intro sounded a lot like Strutter by KISS, which actually came out just a few months before this!. The guitar riff sounded like Home Bound from the Ted Nugent Cat Scratch Fever album which came out in 1977.
Rasputin-Boney M ?? That drum line is crazy
In 1978 Boney M released their 3rd album called "Nightflight to Venus" and the title track (which was released in four different versions) is a 99 percent ripoff of "Dance with the devil". I wonder if Frank Farian paid Michael Hayes (aka Mickie Most) for this. The writer credits don't refer to the 'original' and according to the EN wiki it was indeed inspired by Third stone from the sun.
I saw Cozy live in Berlin on Oct 15 1977. He played an unforgettable drumsolo using a drum riser and at peak performance exploding a magnesium bomb directly followed by lightninglike stroboscope flashes. Sensoric overkill!
Uninspired redo of a fiery Hendrix song.
Father of the double bass drum. Not really, that was American drummer Tommy Aldridge...
Ed Shaughnessy played double bass in the Tonight Show band.
@@rickhahn950 That's pretty awesome!
@@rickhahn950 Probably goes back a long time before him too.
And drummers of the Duke Ellington Band, Louie Bellson around 1940.
Cozy Powell cool Rock and Roll image yes.... But his drumming was mediocre. It's no wonder Bonzo was so respected.
Random RUclips comment refers to Cozy Powell's drumming skills as "mediocre" while virtually every other comment praises him as one of the best rock drummers ever. I'm sure "mediocre" has to be the correct opinion and everyone else knows fuck all what they're talking about, right? Or this comment is solely intended to be the stick that stirs the shit...now, THAT sounds like an accurate opinion!
This really sucks! solid state amps?
So what amps would you have suggested?
@@dennyball2055 A stack of 100 watt Marshall' and Rainbow!
