This short-lived comedy series (broadly a mixture of sketches and round-table discussion) appeared on Radio 4 in 1988, this second edition featuring Jim Broadbent (a regular from now on) and guest Robert Bathurst. Other guests, such as Ned Sherrin, Alison Steadman and Barry Cryer, also put in appearances over the course of the series.
Ten years later another series was broadcast, also hosted by Fry (but leaning more toward discussion than comedy).

"Yes, I'm boring. Boring and alone. What would you want with an interest-free lone?" - So quick, so clever!

I stole one of those lines and said it to my mum. My brother is called William and when he was a baby I said "he loves you mummy like only a Billy can". She loved it, I presented it as my own!

Thank you. I was too young (4 yrs old) and too far away (in Kenya) to appreciate this when it first came out. So I'm glad you gave me a chance to find it when it was recommended. Thanks

From Kenya you couldn't even have seen Mr. Fry. It's too far and there's always the curvature of the planet. Not to mention that you were shorter in stature then too, which couldn't help.

And as Liszt's concert paraphrase of Verdi's quartet from act three of Rigaletto fades away it's time for me to say "and as Liszt's concert..." no, that's just a joke. We'll be meeting more of them as the half hour wears on so watch out, why don't you!
