Awesome interview. I first met Junior at the Starboard Attitude while hanging out with Lamar Duarte (Lamar’s Records). We had gone to the club to see Bill Clarke and Junior showed up to sit in with Bill’s band. Junior sat with Lamar and me and we had a great time. Super nice guy. I saw him play at all of the SoCal clubs back in the mid 80’s with the Flyers. Great music and historical times. I had a chance to reintroduce myself when Junior came to Cleveland with Kim Wilson’s All Stars. He couldn’t have been more cordial with me when I brought up all the SoCal memories.

The harmonica was louder than the guitar (not the harmonica player's fault), but by playing quietly that forces us to listen more carefully to the carefully crafted lines, pure Junior magic. Here in the Portland blues scene (2000-2010 blues jam talkin') Junior Watson's name was mentioned along with Hollywood Fats, and a few others, there were west-coast swing-blues bands, or bands leaning in the direction. That's the kind of music I love still, just don't get out much anymore, never been the same since the coviodiocy, but hey - look how the online scene has grown! Great to here you's jamming together, sounded great, even had to listen carefully for a change!

I think Jr. means the Dedicated Record Collector...store in Campbell. Either that or the Record Barn. Cheers from Guam.

This is great love this ! As for the jump or west coast sound remember that Duke Robillard and Roomful of Blues were doing this in the early 70s as well and deserve credit.
