Hey Ellebee, I’m glad you’re reviewing this. I’m excited about this season.
I really appreciate that the Indigenous cousins are getting air & I think their culture is going to have a lot of influence in what is seeming supernatural. Matthew McConaughey character from season 1 was from Alaska so that's another connection besides the spirals. Looking forward to the season and your reviews!
His father was also named Travis - same name as the “guy dancing” in this episode (trying not to spoil)

So glad you are reviewing this show, Elle. Your witty and insightful commentary are what'll make watching this show an even better experience. I hadn't seen this series prior to now. I'll catch up, once this season wraps. I don't know what to think of "True Detective," since I don't know the overall tone or premise of the series. But this first episode has definitely gotten me intrigued, based on it being mysterious, creepy, seemingly spiritual, focusing on an indigenous culture and female-led. All great elements for what could shape up to be a great season.
I think we're all going to enjoy this season! Glad you're watching with us!

This season seems to have a supernatural feel to it and I don't remember any other seasons having that element. I'm wrapped up based on this first episode, this is the type of Sunday night action I expect from Max. I'm also excited that Mathew and Woody have returned behind the scenes this season.

I would love it if they gave us a little supernatural razzle dazzle this season! I just read about Matthew and Woody being behind the scenes and that makes me excited!
True Detective has always dabbled in the supernatural: that's a key part of the show's aesthetic. It looks like it will be an even bigger part of the show this season though, so we better buckle up.
@@bopyranks it's definitely been a while since I watched the previous seasons, I don't remember the supernatural elements but I'll take your word for it. I think it might be cool to go back and take a look at the previous seasons with your comment in mind.

Good morning, cousin Elle!! Glad to see you're reviewing this series and yes, it was a banger of a premiere!! I, too, think there's a connection to the first season based on the quote at the beginning + the spiral tattoo.
Another Easter egg I spotted was when Danvers shut off the glitchy DVD and there was a copy of 'The Thing' on the shelf = a sci-fi horror fave involving researchers in Antarctica dealing with a monster. I think Travis was doing an interpretive dance showing Rose what happened to the missing researchers. He made movements that looked like they were screaming and drowning -cut to- they're frozen in ice with horrified looks on their faces. I think Hank had something to do with Annie K.'s death and why the case went unsolved. So much is going on and it's just the first episode!!

This is my first time watching True Detective and I am loving it so far. Navarro is my girl too. I’m going to go back and watch season 3 to see my Bae.
I would recommend you watch season 1 as well! It's excellent! Season 3 is great as well.

I think there was a car accident that killed Danvers' son and Leah's parents - maybe The Beatles were on the radio during the accident. Leah makes a comment in the episode making it seem like she's Danvers' step/adopted daughter.

Hola from the frozen tundra of Newfoundland :D The bits that have my spidey senses tingling: 1. When Danvers shuts off the Twist and Shout, she says "I hate the Beatles." 2. When Danvers gets out of her car to check on the DUI lady's accident, she steps on the ice and has a little...flashback or something. 3. Danvers is asleep in bed, and a little disembodied hand touches her shoulder, and she wakes up just as a voice says "She's awake." Danvers sits up, puts her feet on the floor, and there's a little stuffed polar bear with only one eye. 4. Just before Navarro sees that polar bear, she hears a voice say "She's awake."
Hey Canadian cousin! I had to good where Newfoundland is exactly and it took longer than it should have because the top 5 or 6 hits were about the dog and not the place. 😂 Ok. So, who hates the Beatles? I get not being a fan, but to HATE the Beatles? Red flag for sure. She's definitely sketch city, b but I can't put my finger on why..

I forget the officer name but when he was home with his wife and got a call to go to get the files from his father house. I'm so glad you're recapping this show. I've never watched any of the other seasons. I loved this first episode and I love me some Jodie Foster. We're about the same age and when I say to this day when I feel like shit I'll watch Candleshoe or the original Freaky Friday on Disney+... I'm not lying or ashamed Ha!...Fun fact, Freaky Friday was Charlene Tilton's(Lucy Ewing) first movie; she played Bambi, one of Jodie's friends. I've gotten to know Charlene a bit over the last few years as she lives here and is a good friend of one of my good friends. So that makes me, would it be 1 or 2 degrees of separation from Jodie Foster. But I digress, I have no fucking clue what's going on on this show. I'm looking forward to your recaps to help piece it all together.
Are you watching this season of Fargo? It's so good and the finale is this week. Also, one of my all time favorite shows, Northern Exposure is finally streaming, on Prime. There's been issues with music rights that has kept it from ever streaming before. So I've been enjoying rewatching that lately.

@@watchwithmeellebee the acting is flat, annoying and is nowhere near the level of season 1-2-3. The cgi is the beginning is terrible. The pacing is all over the place and the show is introducing too many characters I don't care about because they aren't given the correct time to grow. The woke propaganda is boring and over used and finally the set doesn't feel scary or creepy like season 1.
