    Oh my gosh Elizabeth, I made the rice and Lima bean dish and it was utterly fabulous!! I added little shredded cheese on top, but it was absolutely everything I hoped it would be. That one is definitely a keeper!!
    I noticed in the video you add 2.5 cups broth but the description box says 4. I used 3 and it came out perfect!
    Thank you for sharing such lovely recipes I feel so good about making and feeding to my family! ❤
    Forgot to add that my hubby devoured the blueberry cornbread. I even forgot the yogurt and it still came out amazing!

    Garden veggie soup will be on menu on the 1rst day of Autumn. Sweet potatoes, summer squash, onions, and sweet peppers into homemade chicken stock with mix of herbs. SC weather still quite hot in Sept. but we will enjoy soup anyway. Anasazi beans with fatback and ham hock cooked in crockpot on the 1rst cooler day.

    You did it again, such yummy recipes. Elizabeth, what brand is that cast iron pan? It doesn't look as heavy as mine & as my arthritis worsens my pan is harder to use.❤

      You are so sweet!! Thank you! ❤️ That skillet is my #1 favorite because it’s so much easier to handle and wash. Smithey’s are the absolute best cast iron you can buy in my opinion. Skillet: smithey-ironware.pxf.io/1rj0qD

    A couple more questions I noticed your weck jar with the cornmeal stored in it, are they as thick as a mason jar? Are they airtight?
    Also is your cast iron pan lighter in weight than a lodge brand? Thank you

    Did not know cornbread-does it taste similar to Polenta? Also: isn't it a sweet dish anyway because of the sugar? Or does it not normally taste sweet? From Europe and curious😅

    • @healthyelizabeth
      @healthyelizabeth  2 месяца назад

      Yes similar taste but polenta is creamy like what we call grits here where I’m from. Yes, it’s typically a little bit sweet! That’s why it’s so good as a cake 💛😋

    • @sitcheyr9352
      @sitcheyr9352 2 месяца назад +1

      No, it’s not sweet!!! lol The North does that but in the South, where we started cornbread, we absolutely do NOT make it sweet unless we are specifically making corn cake or as others call, hoe cakes. Our cornbread is a very savory, buttermilk based cornbread down south.

    • @healthyelizabeth
      @healthyelizabeth  2 месяца назад +1

      Wait what?? I’m in the south and everyone’s is sweet to me!

      @@healthyelizabeth Restaurants make it sweet, especially chains but not family recipes, not that I know of. lol My whole family is from Georgia and Alabama and where we are from, sweet cornbread would not fly. Mine is equal parts flour to cornmeal with baking powder, salt, eggs, butter, and buttermilk. All cooked in a cast iron pan that’s been lightly oiled. One of my favorite suppers is to dunk it while it’s still hot into cold milk and eat it with a spoon. That’s how my Darlin and grandmother taught me and it’s an absolute comfort food.

      Depends on your habits. In a lot of countries soups are eaten all year round. Asia for instance or Eastern Europe where soup is always the starter.
