  • Tarli picked me up at the airport Saturday afternoon. I was immediately treated to a pie from Toororac Pies - one of the best pie shops in the area. Thanks Tarli!
We then drove to Bellbrae Estate, a winery on the way to Lorne. The wines were good and the pizza was even better! I really liked their premium Pinot Noir.
After wine tasting we continued on to Lorne and set up our tent at the Lorne Foreshore Caravan Park right by the Erskin River. The bathrooms were fully equipped and even had hot water for showers.
Our first destination was Lorne Beach. We jumped into the Tasman Sea for a nice swim. The water was cool, but not cold. It was quite refreshing and the sea beckoned me to jump in several times! Tarli too braved it and when in for a dip.
After a quick (cold) shower at the beach restrooms, we headed to Captain Hook for some amazing fish and chips.
We drove down the great ocean road a bit to get some incredible pictures of the full moon. It lit up the sky so bright.
We had a very nice rest in our tent that night - I was exhausted from the 20 hour flights and jet lag. But the next morning we were ready for action. First stop was Teddy's Lookout for a fantastic sunrise. We also saw the moon disappearing. Was quite a site.
Next we took a stroll on Lorne Pier and checked out the people fishing. After that we had a pastry and pie at Grandma Shields. Tarli used to go there when she would go to Lorne own summer camping trips with her family.
After breakfast we broke up the campsite and headed to Erskin Falls. A nice simple waterfall and getaway from the business of the main road.
We drove back a different way and stopped for lunch in Daylesford. Beppe was amazing! Great Italian food. We had Bolognese and a seafood pasta. They were both delightful.
Our last stop was Zig Zag Wines. We tried a bunch of different wines, really enjoyed the smaller scale setting and went home with two bottles - Sangiovese and Mataro.
All in all, an action packed first 24 hours in Melbourne!
