Not for at least a year, I'd prefer if people experienced it themselves, and let the art speak for itself, than having someone (including me) speak over it. The only reason I did this is because when people spoke about the game I never saw anyone say anything like this.
@@hellkrai I would still like to read your opinion somewhere, but I felt like I.V was very cut-and-dry with the narrative progression. As long as you are familiar with Kisage X most of the imagery, dialogue, and setpieces in I.V are conclusive about the story. I think it helps that I listened to the reading of Deviation Perspective, but I do not think it is required.

I just realized that Alex's mind is literally fractured and both sides of himself are trying to kill the other instead of find harmony. Alex isn't an asshole per se, his psyche is FRACTURED by a substantial trauma that led to arrested development hence the odd game system discrepancy in his room like with the OG Game Boy. He can't love himself unconditionally, so he's desperate for someone else to and it leads to his codependency.
damn. no matter what we do, Alex will NEVER stop being a terrible POS... sad. i still think this is the best ending though, as even if he never admits to us the truth about his lies, we leave him off being a better person to those around him.
This series and ur debunking streams have meant a lot to me, as someone whos been obsessed with this game since day 1, yet none of my friends played it and judged it based on essays that didnt get it or were comedic pieces, not too focused on the deeper story. It also made me sad that the only positive videos were weirdly self deprecating about liking this game. Im not as deep in the lore as you are (clearly) but i really enjoy every single one of these videos!
I only just started getting back into this after watching a bit of video 8 in the series, after having randomly encountered the game a while before, just seeing YIIK as an interesting indie RPG. The countless layers of the story took time for me to absorb, but the end result is something that makes it all come together. Thank you for making this series, so I could experience this rollercoaster of emotions, narratives, and delusions.
Ostensibly, I've been listening to these videos while I'm busy at work so I don't think I have as full of an understanding as I should. As such, I do plan on going back to these when I have the time and watching them properly in order to digest them better, but from what I've gathered it seems to me that the majority of the game is Alex being an unreliable narrator and making up pretty much the entire story of the game because he can't move on from the mistakes he made. Primarily, he had a friend group and was particularly into Vella, but because of his main character syndrome born from playing too many games and RPGs reinforcing his narcissistic tendencies, he misread everything as her being into him. He assumed like the games he plays, if he was determined enough that things would go his way, but Vella wasn't interested and his attempts to put the moves on her backfired to such an extent that he lost all his friends. More than likely it was the straw that broke the camels back, they were all probably sick of him and that was what they all needed to definitively distance themselves from him. So he's figuratively stuck in the past, he can't move on from the year 2000 because that's presumably when the social foe paw occurred, but rather than actually reflect on his actual flaws as a person, he's unable to properly face himself, his Jungian Shadow is too much for him to bear, so he admits to smaller, less relevant flaws because he doesn't want to actually get better, he just wants to continue being the main character and rationalize everything in his mind. The game to me, seems to largely be a metaphor for all of his character flaws, that he himself still can't see even when they're staring him in the face. Like the RPGs he enjoys, he keeps replaying them, but is unable to actually understand them and what they convey and represent, just as he repeats the events in his mind trying to understand how he could do better. Ultimately he still isn't able to grasp that he's still just focusing on himself and not really seeing the people around him, the friends he supposedly loves and cares for. It's ironic that he loves these JRPGs that preach altruistic values, yet all he takes from them is the glory of being the hero, being the person that everyone likes and does all the important things, forgetting that most of these games place value on friendship, teamwork, and self-betterment. I've seen a bunch of video essays about YIIK but have only played the game itself a little bit out of curiosity, I just took a lot of those videos at face value, but yours have given me pause. I didn't realize the game merited a much deeper analysis beyond "lol cringe game is cringe" but you've presented the game in a fascinating light. I think you've done a great job here and proved that the game is far more meaningful than people give it credit for.
Why the sudden surge in yiik content as of late. I must be living in the Truman show because I literally just beat this painful game a few days ago and am now looking forward to the next update coming in December.

I have some questions still. Does any of the super-natural stuff actually happen in the story or is it all made-up? Does he actually reach through realities to communicate with the player? How much fast food grease is stored in Alex's beard? What if Jeffery actually swooped in and stole Vella from Alex?
This video is making me realize I still have no clue what happens in 1.25 (Is that what it's called?) I just never looked. I knew Wilfrid was a character that existed in earlier builds but I never put together that his design being used for Proto-Alex wasn't just model reuse but implying that Wilfrid is another Alex. I assume that's right anyways. Unless that's just Alex projecting onto someone else again. No wonder this series disappeared for 11 months you were really preparing for a firestorm huh. In the old frankton ending besides matt hawkins can you talk to any other npcs? I remember you can walk past some bikers and I always wondered if you could speak to them or not
It's debatable if they're supposed to appear, if you use a modified save and talk to them it softlocks the game because they have no assigned dialogue.
I wonder... has anyone tried loading beta YiiK in modern YiiK? It probably wont do anything but I'm wondering if thats why these last two endings feel like stepping out of the cycle. Come to think of it... i might be making myself crazy. But its possible.
