Fort Hare was born in 1916 and is based in a small town called Alice in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa.

Mugabe like most Zimbabweans including myself speak and under Ndebele language which is a dialect of Zulu and belongs to the Nguni group of languages.
SisiXhosa esi. Its quite different from isiZulu but maybe he does understand here and there.
Yamkela Jombile yes Xhosa is quite different to Zulu, BUT all Nguni languages i.e isiZulu,siSwati,siXhosa and siNdebele(a national language of Zimbabwe) are generally intelligible, which means speakers can to SOME extent understand each other.
This explains why Xhosa singers Zahara,Nathi, Zolani Mukiva etc have a huge fanbase in Swaziland and Zimbabwe
Isixhosa is an official language in Zimbabwe. Know your Africa.
