    I don't know if you hit unprecise or your settings for the triggers are off so you have false or double triggering, but in the faster parts it doesn't sound accurate :/ accuracy and defined hits > speed for me.
    In your other videos they sound fine though.

    people who say triggers are cheating have obviously never seen them or worked with them. They just allow you to sample an existing Bass drum sound, to get that click sound. You still have to work hard as fuck to get even 16th notes on the bass with the triggers.

      Right but see the issue that people have (i'm not saying that i have this issue...frankly i don't give a fuck) is that triggers tend to count every hit equally. You don't have to hit the drum well or indeed with any real force and it still sounds like you're pounding the hell out of it with every shot. The triggered sounds are all based on kick drums that are being stepped into really hard so they get the full tone and the full click. Using a trigger puts that at your disposal even when you're just barely tapping the drum or drumming quite inconsistently with bad technique.
      Again, i really don't care either way. This is the root of the argument though. Few reasonable people would argue that the guy who's using triggers and ghosting half the strokes is as skilled as the guy who's hitting the drum consistently and getting a nice sound out of it with every hit. And no, it's not impossible. My drummer and many like him are such players. It's just a difference in philosophy with some people. Personally, i find it dopey that anyone would get offended by the use of triggers. Good music is good music regardless and your creativity is paramount at the end of the day. The tools you use are entirely up to you.

    • @TheAbcd1234hijk
      @TheAbcd1234hijk 6 лет назад

      alterI4 Nope... you simply cant hear the beat without trigger. That gentle and quiet touch dont do anything. And when mic'd, you would hear an enormous explosion when playing normally and really hitting the drum. Trigger allows you just to be fast and and not knowing how to tune your drums to sound good. Mostly people tune their bass drum tight as hell, and it sounds awful without filling the entire drum with pillows, and then you have lost your sound totally.

    • @haslahali746
      @haslahali746 6 лет назад +1

      +alter4 - Exactly. One dude started laughing and giving me shit about using triggers. He said, "you got triggers you cheater? That means you can't play", well I shut off the trigger module and showed him otherwise. It's true you can use them for cheating but it have never even crossed my mind. They're actually pretty necessary when playing fast douple bass, atleast when recording.

    • @raprometheus3051
      @raprometheus3051 6 лет назад

      Lol. Triggers are in fact cheating, otherwise nobody would have this long bullshit list of excuses for using them. They're completely fucking dishonest from a musical and physical perspective and they sound just so. They sound like utter crap, because they are. Play the drums or don't. Simple.

    I've never worked with Alesis triggers before, only Roland electronic drums and then Ddrum triggers for bass. I know one thing that can help with really sensitive triggers is tuning the actual drum down a couple notches. It looks like they're well packed, so it's not that.
    It might help at the lower speeds if you really exaggerate the motion of the heeltoe, too. The high speeds sound good! Try checking out Tim Waterson talkin about heel toe, it might help you get that machine gun sound. :)

    Salut, bravo pour ta performance! des doubles croches à 270 bpm aux pieds! C'est impressionnant... perso j'arrive à cette vitesse... avec mes mains. les moment où tu traces tu es en RRLL non? Est-ce la technique du talon pointe? Je n'en ai pas l'impression... ça va tellement vite que je capte rien pour bosser ça c'est la même technique qu'avec les mains (long et chiant mais quelle bonheur après...)? Genre au début on a l'impression d'etre handicapé et après on se compte qu'on va plus vite qu'en frisé? Merci de ta réponse

    This is a nice technique to go fast.. but have you tried this with other pedals?
    I changed out my direct drive Axis pedals with pearl`s chain driven ones, cause the Axis pedals for me was harder to balance right.. And also this technique on chain pedals with tight springs gives more dynamic..
    And the second stroke will be harder too :)

    Good drumming and good video, I have only one question, why do you use triggers? I think with that drummers are badly accustomed, you use a very good technique should reinforce practicing with your acoustic set to make harder shots and achieve greater volume but real.

  • @FavoriteDrummer
    @FavoriteDrummer 8 лет назад +4

    Good playing. We all have room to improve always. I understand everyone hating on trigger setups. I definitely woukd rather hear a guy playing through the head and still get high dynamics, but with the direct link style pedals they play soft. So, triggers make the increased playability audible. Bring those doubles back in tempo for a while and get them smoothed out then bump the bpms again. But bro, f**k these trolls. Nice work.

    I respect this kind of drumming, and you have to be very talented to play like this and so on, but i've never liked this kind of drumming. I feel like there are no drummers like me, that uses chain pedals, bass mics, and RLRL technique left today. I only see people playing 250 bpm double bass without any groove everywhere...
    (Again, I still respect it...)

    • @ThomasCremier
      @ThomasCremier  10 лет назад +21

      I have a lot of respect for you ! You explain exactly what you think, a lot of people say it is shity drumming, but to my minds, this drumming is less exhausting, and I have to play very precisely. I can do RLRL to 220BPM but a little bit of time, with my band I play a 264BPM song, and it is better for me with heel-toe !
      Thank you a lot for your respect ! :)

      Thomas Crémier Thomas Cremier, you're a very talented player. Keep those negative comments by the idiot haters in your rear view mirror. Those that can't, bitch about and try to tear down those that can. It takes talent to do anything fast and accurate and these people have no idea how long it takes to get heel toe down to sound that good at that level. It's lonely at the top Thomas, when your good most people can't just be happy for you and respect your body of work. Congrats on your success now and in the future and tune out the bitchy white noise in the background. BPatrick

    Everyone does realize that you can not play double bass above 215 bpm with out triggers right? Not to mention the triggers pick up the hits more than a mic does which is why speed metal or death metal drummers use them on the bass drums. So not only do you have to be more precise but if you make a mistake everyone can hear it. I used to be against triggers but if you don't have a maple, birch, acrylic or solid mahogany drum kit you will never get the right pitch or tone out of your bass drums. Anyone who disagrees with this has never played live with a Tama rockstar kit or any other bass wood or mahogony/bass wood combo kit mic'd up on the bass drums.

    • @bryanmize7192
      @bryanmize7192 10 лет назад +17

      A lot of it is ignorance. Triggers are not cheating because you still have to play every beat. What I don't like is how drummers will feather tap the bass drums when triggered. They set the sensitivity so high that something as little as a squirrel fart will trigger a full volume bass drum hit.

  • @strangehappenings8961
    @strangehappenings8961 5 лет назад +1

    The triggers are not on his bass drum heads, they are the axis e-kits which have a seperate beater that strikes a trigger attatched to the frame of the pedal. He needs to mess with the beater setting of the e-kits if he wants to quit having mis-triggering issues. That or he just needs to practice more and tighten up his playing.

    After watching this video it really makes me appreciate drummers like Dave Lombardo, Sean Reinert, Gene Hoglan, and Pete Sandoval for their true talent and abilities at high speed, heal up, non-double stroke double bass drumming. Sure, a couple of them may use triggers, but they're ability at playing each note on the kicks consistently, heal up and without double strokes does not in any way depend on triggers. This guy's kicks would not be heard at all without triggers, they're SO stuffed and he hits them SO soft due to double strokes that there's no power! I'm not knocking triggers or this guy's playing style whatsoever... I think it's fine to enhance the punch and sound of a drum! When triggers are used properly in the mix, it sounds fuckin' incredible! Tim Yeung uses triggers the way they should be used. He plays those kicks with full force and intensity, hard and fast, note for note and that's double bass drumming! Same as Lombardo "The Godfather", his playing does not depend whatsoever on triggers to show his true skill, speed, and ability. Just my opinion....not H8ing.

    Hey, so it's occured to me in watching this video that the bass drum heads are super tight and stuffed to the brim. Then triggers are added. I could tell because there was no head movement when the beater hit the head and of course the sound. I don't have a lot of experience in Death Metal, but is this common practice?? I'm use to the Metal guys of the 80's and 90's just rolling the kicks RLRLRLRLRLRLRLRL maybe triggered or not but the bass drums had a more natural sound? I'm curious because i've only been playing double kick pedal for a little over year with my current band and have come a long way, but i have no were near this kind of speed, but i'm not using triggers, and my head tension is just slightly above wrinkles with minamal muffeling. I'm sure i need to oil up my peadl and play with the tension a bit, but just curious.

    • @ThomasCremier
      @ThomasCremier  10 лет назад

      This technique is called heel toe. It is double strokes RRLLRRLLRRLL. I play now with my bass drum heads very loose, tension to the max. This video is a demonstration of heel toe. It is used by a lot of drummer, professionals and beginners. It is a complicated technique because you have to play very clean to do each stroke in time. Go check my last video, You won't hear the difference between double strokes and RLRLRLRL. For the triggers, it isn't a cheat or something giving the play easier. I play loud, and the trigger is used to record my kick without having a mic in each bass drum, it gives the possibility to choose the sound I want, and working with trigger makes the playing more difficult because you have to hear each beats, and if you play not in time it would be heard.

    triggers...if anything...show whether youre good or not.
    take a player like George Kollias. he uses triggers, but he also has the power behind what he does. you can see how far back his beaters go and you can tell hes actually playing. thats one of the reasons he uses felt beaters because he plays so fast and hard he can (and has) melted plastic beaters to his drum head before.
    then you have these generic wannabes using triggers. they show they can go 300bpm and their beaters are barely moving. they give triggers a bad name.
    then you have people that think theyre good...or are in the process of getting better...they use triggers and you can hear the inconsistency. if they learn from the inconsistency, and get better because of it, its a good thing.
    this guy for instance. he can go fast with doubles but hes inconsistent. if hes learning and getting better thats not a bad thing, but if he continues to use triggers and doesnt get better, other drummers might get gigs he wants.

    • @SlaysTheDay
      @SlaysTheDay 5 лет назад +1

      I agree and well said and GK was the perfect example, learn to play the right way with single strokes and accurate before you try other strokes, which this person clearly hasn't done. No real drummer jumps right to double strokes unless they can't master single, that's it in a nutshell. Find your weakness. Example, you have more power on the right, loose up the left pedal's tightness. That said, you'll be able to notice the balance on both beaters. Also, beaters keep the same distance for both. Not to close and not to far. Running or working out helps for your legs to keep up and avoids the risk of cramps. Dont forget to breathe and enjoy. Hopefully I've helped.

    Awesome video! Not sure how I wound up watching this... but whenever I find another person that uses heel-toe, it begins to give me more hope in the world. I've been playing heel-toe for several years and, like you, I've gotten dangerously close to clean 300 BPM playing; I haven't tested myself in a few months, maybe I'm finally there. Who knows? Never understood why anyone would play any other method when looking for speed. Unless you don't care about having any actual power in your hits, then you can play swivel or spaz out on heel-up. Personally, I enjoy being able to hit the heads over 250 BPM with nearly as much power as I can when playing slower grooves with the flat-foot technique. \m/ stay brutal \m/

    • @ThomasCremier
      @ThomasCremier  10 лет назад

      Oh thanks a lot ! Lot of people say that it is cheating or not real drumming. This video was the first month I played Heel-toe. Now, it is less sloppy and more powerful. Check my video New Sound !

    • @charleskkakareka
      @charleskkakareka 10 лет назад

      Certainly not cheating haha. It's simply a technique; I'll never understand why people consider certain techniques to be cheating. It's just as close to cheating as swivel, slide, and whatever other techniques. As long as the triggers aren't set insanely sensitive, I don't have a problem with any style of double-bass playing.
      Best of luck in the future; I'll certainly check out the video you referred to! \m/

    • @ThomasCremier
      @ThomasCremier  9 лет назад

      +WereFromUrFace triggers will take not the sound of your bass drum or toms or snare like a microphone and convert it in a variation of voltage. The trigger will take the vibration out of you drums. Through the cable, there will be a voltage that represents each beat you make. For triggering you will need a drum module (like the one of an electronic kit). SO when you will plug a trigger in the module you will choose the sound you like. Triggering your drum is making it hybrid (acoustic/electronic).
