That flex was very satisfying to watch. As for naming the pen, slap on a shark logo and call it the Deep Blue!
Call it THE Good Blue Pen. It's absolutely gorgeous 😍
20:48 I'm an inventor.... The problem is that your friend want to use the nib to do all the work: distribute the ink and act as a spring to widen the line.
I think the nib should only distribute the ink and a different spring should be added on top to adjust the gap between 'tangs/tongues' sorry I'm french!
Otherwise, the nib will fatigue pretty fast and will be destroyed/break too often. Sure, it can be a consumable, industry will love it and people won't care too much I guess.
It could also be a flexible feed that 'want' to go upward. So, when the nib go up, the feed follow the nib. A small leaf spring could be add into the feed to act as a gentle lift.
I agree with Doodlebud - 'The Good Blue' is the perfect name for this deep, *true* blue - very appealing! (That blue is as blue as blue gets!)
I suggest B450, blue 450nm, the wavelength for blue color
That's smart!
@@archivist17 that is sweet, thanks!!
Hey, Doodlebud! This is Jim, a subscriber to your channel and I love it (I don't post a lot due to lack of time but I always watch it!).
My "name" for the R615 in the blue colour, as per your request in this video, would be"...
"STARRY NIGHT BLUE"
... based on Van Gogh 's famous painting, for the following reasons:
1) The colour of the FP (as seen on my smartTV) resembles very closely many of the Blue shades in Van Gogh's famous masterpiece.
2) the metal center resembles the center of the circles in the original painting (which are thought by many to resemble our own galaxy).
3) specially since if the R615 is rotated on its axis (making a circle until it stops based on its one sided flat part) it resembles the center circular patterns in the painting.
4) as seen in your RUclips video (and without seeing it on-hand), and also due to the lighting, it does show different shades of blue and sparkling blue tones (from darker to lighter), similar to the painting.
5) The Titanium Flex nib is an extraordinary tool for: a) Fountain Pen enthusiasts and Collectors; b) Calligraphy artists; c) Drawing and Sketching Artists as a whole, always looking for a great tool to do Art with!
Keep doing what you do in RUclips because you help a lot of people as myself to be in love with Fountain Pens (I use them every day for EVERYTHING... Writing, Drawing, Doodling...).
Cheers! 😁👍
What a gorgeous design! My suggestion for the blue name would be Neptune Blue. The edgeless symmetrical design, the precise, coarse, knurled middle section and the deep blue color give me a very space age feel. Love the review, and the pen! Thanks for the video doodlebud :)
The name I would like to try is “Machining Blue”, because of how much has been put into the design of the pen through the machines used that is reflected in the beauty of these pens.
Still got the Blues for You.
Blue Suede Shoes.
I am Blue, da ba de da ba dai.
Behind Blue Eyes.
As you can see, I love the classics. Nice video, as always.
The Zoolander fan in me also thinks “blue steel” is an ideal name.
Very cool Pen! I'm thinking "Blueberry Pi".
fantastic looking pen, and blue that I think appeals widely. I think "the good blue" fits nicely with their brand
Thanks to you Ive just got one - titanium nib and polymer feed - wow!!! What a writer. I love my old FPR ultra flex, but this pen is just a bit more stable and well machined. Wonderful pen. Thanks again for your review.
Great to hear!
The Good Blue is a great name, as is blue streak suggested by another. I also like the idea of 'cesium blue' since the element is the right color and the nib is meant to harken back to a different time.
Adn thanks for the good videos. I love the scientific measure of inks. It's nice to think about them in a more objective manner.
Because it’s a vintage feel in a modern pen, I would call it Timeless Blue. Thanks for a great video!
What a lovely pen! And the the attempt of creating a modern flex nib is appreciated. If pressed for a color name, I'd recommend "Abyss Blue," to reference the depth of strokes achieved within the calligraphy possible with this pen. What a beauty!
I love the calligraphy! I'm thinking the name should be called "Submariner Blue"! Since the contrast between the steel and the blue feels like a submarine in the ocean, I feel it fits nicely :)
Even though I found this video rather late, I'm very happy that it's there. I have this FP since a few weeks on my radar, pondering on it until it finally came to my mind: "how about to find a video about it".
And yes, Doodlebud already made an impressive video and it seems this pen with its Ti nib and polymer feed is what I'm looking for. No 400 to 600 USD for an indian made FP, no extra money for special feeds, just ink up the good blue R615 pen and write.
Thanks a lot.
I would call it “The Perfectly Blue Pen”. I love that shade of blue!
I'm so bad at naming things. I really liked your idea of naming it The Good Blue, in fact that's exactly what I thought when I first saw it in your other video: "Oh, that's the Good Blue Pen". It looks like a Cobalt Blue or Azure to me. I don't think it's Neon or Electric Blue. But if they're just naming colors and have no other shades of blue, they can also stick with "Blue".
It’s so fascinating to see you using this amazing pen and creating such beautiful writing. My suggested name for the pen is Bountiful Blue, as a bounty of wondrous writing is made possible when using it!
Oh dear, another supplier to add to my wishlist ^_^
Totally agree with you, that alchemy flex nib is awesome. looks like the blue has to stay as it looks gorgeous.
Love the contet! My background with fountain pens turns out to be the same as Sunil - my Berol handwriting pen lasted around four years after my Year Three handwriting test before it landed nib down, and I loved that thing to bits!
I feel like Majestic Blue would fit well with the rest of the names, like Champagne, but wouldn't contrast other names' themes with Summer Blue.
I also had a 1st batch of the Alchemy nib and it was skipping very badly so am waiting for a replacement. There was a small gap between the nib and the feed. I didn't get as bad a lift off as yours but the skipping was worse. For the brief moments that it did write the experience was really pleasant. Beautifully ground fine tip and a gorgeous flex feel. Looking forward to receiving the finished product soon.
Oh man! that looks superb! I was lucky enough to see The good blue at the London Pen show. Were the most lovely folks I've ever met! :) and as for a name hmmmm... how about... Azure dream :D
I think I agree. The Good Blue seems to be a great fitting name. Don't know if I could come up with something better.
I agree with the name the good blue. Seems like an easy homerun to me.
Blue is the simplest and because of it is best: not "Good Blue" but just Bllue.
You're absolutly right. The thinner the hair lines more the variation shows. And the ink shows very nice.
Love it,
my suggestion is True Blue describes all the positive use and design of the R615🥰
Lovely stuff! Looks like The Good Blue are passionate about their work. As for a name, I’m partial to Blue Streak (a play on the phrase, “talk a blue streak”).
I love flex nibs and love it even more when modern companies take a stab at making flex pens. Great video!
They look impresive, about the name: Imperial Blue. Thanks for the video
Deep ocean blue... That superflex looks promising, can't wait to see the finished product
I like the idea of “steel blue”, it’s a play on materials and color, and it’s kinda fun lol
It's a wonderful color. Someone suggested calling it Prussian blue. That is my favorite for the names I have read. The Good Blue is good as well.
Thanks for the review and demonstration of the flex nib. Like you, I immediately thought of calling it "The Good Blue" too, but if I had to choose an alternate, "Blue by Blue". Thanks to you and Sunil for the giveaway
Name Suggestion: Star Sapphire, do an image search for this precious stone and it'll be immediately apparent why I suggested it.
1. Thanks for the information and commentary.
2. I look forward to seeing the progress on that interesting prototype flex nib.
3. That gigantic drop-off from the body to the section is a deal-breaker for me personally. However the other model, the L130, has NO drop-off, so it suits me perfectly, and I have one in the mail.
4. I really hope that the prototype is made to fit in the L130, and is available seperately.
That pen looks awesome, I love to see it in dark blue
I would call it “Sapphire Rain”
Beautiful pen. Very classy! My suggestion is The Sapphire. But I also vote for prior suggestions of The Good Blue or Blue Steel.
I love that pen. The nib looks awesome too! For the color suggestion I think "Cold Blue, Blue Steel, or The Good Blue" all would be great names.
A beautiful blue pen with well-matched ink. I would call the pen "304 Blue" nothing fancy just a node to the stainless steel vice the brass used previously.
I think I would call it "Just Blue." Nice and simple
Great job with another wonderful and technical video, Doodlebud! I think I would call it Ion Blue, to reflect the ionization process which is part of the anodizing.
Yu won bud! Check his latest video! Congratulations
I feel like this is a Winter Blue - and the brass one feels more summer to me.
I keep wanting to order every time you review a pen, but I think I'll keep holding off 'til this nib is ready. I'm excited to own a Good Blue.
Great vid! I've been eyeing one of these for a while because they look so fun to write with. My name suggestion would be Agulhas Blue, the point where the Atlantic and Indian Ocean meet.
Great video! I really like the simplicity of the design on these pens. If I were to name this one, it would probably be "Simply Blue".
Ooh, Blue Steel for sure. Great pen.
Nice flex and nice calligraphy. I’d just call it the Big Blu
The first name suggestion that popped into my head was "Ocean Froth", because the blue makes me think of the ocean and then that stainless steel kinda looks like the froth you get on top of hard-hitting waves. It'd go with the theme of a flex nib pen, too, as the flex gives "wavy" lines.
Great vid as usual Doodlebud! Others have suggested Engineer’s/ Steel / Layout Blue I think.
I think “True Blue” sounds quite good but it has right wing connotations here in the UK.
Thanks for another great review Doodlebud. I would name it Blue Note.
these pens look rad! especially the white one! however the good blue is a perfect name for the blue one. both of these are amazing!
This really tempts me to upgrade to a flex nib fountain pen.
For the colour, as right now I yearn to travel I'd call this "Deep Sea Blue", however "Methyl Blue" sounds more in line with the technical/engineering inspiration of the pens' name.
The Lindenberg would be a cool name. Because it looks like the Zepplin which was my first thought when I saw it. What an awesome looking Pen, I'm glad to see that someone still cares about the quality of what they make for others to cherish and enjoy😊
sick pen I think "Midnight Memoir" or "Navy Nib" fits nicely
I would call that quasar blue. I love your engineering perspective. Thanks
This was a great video. I think that the Good Blue make some fantastic pens and these are no exception. My name for this blue would be “Blue For You”. A brass finish would also complement “Blue For You”. I saw it at the LPS and this blue is amazing! Thanks again DB and catch ya next time.
Fascinating pen. My suggestion is Clear Blue.
Dear Mr. Doodlebud,
You rock ;-) Keep up the splendiferous work.
You need to know that your review really won me cuz of the Sargasso Sea ink.
I"m ordering a Good Blue, Titanium Flex tomorrow. Yes, you can show your sponsor this post.
Kudos,
/tom
Blue lightning! Nice looking pen.
Hey Doodlebud! Great reviews. I'm also glad to see Sunil keeps pushing the envelope with the Good Blue pens. I think the blue pen should be named the "ultramarine". I'm looking forward to more reviews!
The good blue is good. But how about "Deep Atlantic Blue"?
I hadn't even thought about the heat of the water used for cleaning pens. Thanks for the tips.
Regarding the bulb syringe, I have one with a seam but my natural approach would be to apply pressure at the base of the bulbous part, not squeeze the sides. So basically I have been doing it right! 😁
I also think that “the good blue” is the perfect choice if they choose this color to be their staple color. But I like abyssal blue too
I think True Blue or Once in a Blue Moon would be good names. Your writing is beautiful! I'd love to try such a gorgeous and innovative pen.
My sugetìon is "deep dive blue". Thank you for shering the progress journay. Great pen.
Nice pen! I'd suggest 'True Blue'.
Thank you, Doodlebud!
Nile Blue; goes well with Alchemy (or Khem) nib theme, and the profound color of the model seems well represented 🙂💙
absolutely stunning. I'm just getting started, but this is the type of video that gets me excited about this hobby! color suggestion: Private Reserve - Blue Suede. I haven't tried many ink yet, but this is by far the wettest.
Blue Shark Flex!!! It’s gorgeous!!!!
Nice! So cool to see part of the creation process.
Well, since the company is from the UK, I would name the pen "Sound and Vision".
Great pen !! I would call it “BlueFor You”
That prototype looks great. I can't wait until it comes out on sale. My suggestion for the name of the pen is Cold Steel or Blue Whale, although naming it The Good Blue is too good to pass up.
Eponymous Blue
His Majestie Kinge Charlies's Blooo fountain penne. God Bless Him.
I would name it "The Good Blue" as well
I have the Titanium Flex nib and it's awesome but you get the smudges like the prototype nib there as well if you flex to hard, it's just the feed touching the paper.
Matt Armstrong was recommending Iroshuzuku inks with a Pilot 912 with an FA nib. I have been using some Private Reserve black ink. Due to pick up a 743 soon with an FA nib.
Pratice Blue seems as good a name as any 😏
I would try adding another pair of cutouts between the tipping and the shoulder, so not all of the stress is going through one set of cutouts. You could also try adding a "horizontal nib slit", or multiple small ones. I think if you want to create flex through geometry rather than metallurgy, it's better to have lots of small bending points than to have one or two big ones. That keeps the overall structure globally rigid while allowing it to make a bunch of local tiny bends that add up.
What a nice designed pen. The blue combined with the stainless steel give me a maritime feeling. I think "Blue Horizon" would be a nice name for it. It also accentuates the curve of the pen as well. Love the review. See you next time. ;-)
Great looking pen and nib! "Cygnus Blue" for me, as it has a space-ish look for me.
At the Chicago Pen show today and they had a full kit with 2 training pens to learn how to nib grind. I'll be watching a lot of your back content again! Pretty neat to see their progress in their design and details. I like "The Good Blue", but I would be surprised if the number of things you mentioned on why you don't do ink reviews is preventing us from noticing the true color. They have another "Blue" pen called "Ultramarine". The yellow center makes it more "warm". Personally, I would suggest "Cool Ultramarine" to fit with their other coloring names.
I changed my mind. "Cool Azul"
I agree with having it as his signature pen bearing the name of the company. My other name suggestion is Spring Blue; Spring both for the flex nib and for those stormy spring days we get in the U.K. that make the colours of nature super saturated.
Thanks for the always excellent review and insights. I’ve been wondering whether to wait for the new steel flex or to go for the titanium nib and you just swung me to the titanium.
That is an awesome pen! And, of course, your review kicked butt!! I think a good name for the pen would be "the Great Blue," after the great blue hole off the coast of Belize. A lot of the pictures are that same brilliant blue with what looks like silver sandy coral or something around it. It's perfect!!!
Very interesting design. Thanks for pointing out some of the details: the flat roll-stop edge, the mathematical inspiration for the model name, the center band. The color reminds me of a parakeet I got for my fifth birthday, that I called KittyK., but who would know what that is? So how about Bachelor's' Button Blue? The color of the earlier strains of this garden flower is much like the pen.
Royal Circle Blue. Royal fits the timing with King Charles III coronation, Circle fits with the 615 circumference.
Royal Blue, Blueprint Quill or even your idea of having it called "the good blue" sounds great :)
Those pens are quite something. The blue one looks most appealing to me, too. I'd say a good name for it would be "Blue Steel". Thanks for the giveaway opportunity. Enjoyed the video overall, Doodlebud. I actually went and bought a pack of those capillary test tubes after seeing your previous video as I was curious to see how some of my inks performed so I know which will work best in my flex (Tripletail).
What have you learned from the capillary test tubes?
What is this, a fountain pen for ants?
@@ichirofakename Similar to what you see in DB's video here: ruclips.net/video/SzYkIhuDDcc/видео.html
I tested about a dozen (Noodler's) inks, so far, and can confirm his findings for the Bernanke Blue (and QE'Ternity) -- the sample in the tube moves from one end to the other very quickly. Others like Grey and El Lawrence are also fast, but not quite as much. I love Kung Te-cheng, but it definitely moves slower in the tube, which explains why it tends to skip in a flex nib.
@MJ good on ya for getting some tubes and doing some testing! Its a very simple check to do and you can learn a fair amount to help identify an ink for things like flex
@@Doodlebud Yes, your idea to try them out was ingenious. I've ordered a bottle of a new additive from Van Dieman's - their "ink wetter" , as I'd like to see how/if I can lower the surface tension on inks that tend to skip. Will try it out in small test batches, in case it has an adverse effect on an ink's constitution, so I don't ruin an entire bottle.
I suggest the name as Corsiva Azul! Sounds fancy!
Amazing video as always!
As an "Engineer" - medical physicist - I love the more detailed and technical analysis of your videos!
Cheers from Angola!
This is a really nice pen. I would call the color "The Beautiful Blue"
Call it “The Azure” 😀. These are beautiful pens. Great review once again.. I am also after the L130. Waiting for them to get restored. 😊
I like the Idea of calling It the good blue
I proudly own a Good Blue pen... has an amazing quality. I think the name good blue fits well
I think ‘Bendy Blue’ could work as a flex themed colour name.
Maybe they could expand that to all their flex pen colours and get a brand theme going?
Boy do I need a bottle of Diamine Sargasso sea now!! Love these pens. Glad he made a roll stop on them as I'm a clip guy for use as a roll stop. Can't wait to see what he comes up with on the cutout nib. Love that he wants feedback so he can make things better. I think you are right on the name of the Blue pen Doodlebud. Keep it simple. I know what a boring response from me... But I agree with you haha Really want to try one of these pens/nibs because i love bouncy flexy nibs.
The name I’d give would probably be something like “lustrous blue” or “blue knight” because the look of the pen is high class and gives a vibe of power and elegance but “the good blue” is nice too
If they like engineering names, Prussian Blue (after the scribing compound & dye) seems like a good name.
Note, I'm actually designing pens on my other screen while watching this :)
