you sound like me. I got this amp for free. I have a Sansui CA3000 with Accuphase p300x, Proac Tablette Anniversary bookshelf, VPI scout2 turntable with Lyra Delos cart. I have listened to it for an hour and I can say I'm keeping it and I'm selling my Sansui CA3000. This Akai makes great bass presence and for bookshelf speakers its perfect because they're missing bass. The sound is FULL and i had to use a sub with the speakers but now i think the sub will be turned down to very min. I kept comparing back and forth with Sansui, Accuphase combo. That's $3000 bux equimpent. This amp is like $500. But honestly, I think I enjoy it as much if not slightly more. The "source" switch and "off" switch is not matched. Strangely you need to go +4 to bass and +4 to treble to match the source sound which should be neutral right?
yes, we speak one time about the Akai, i bought after your Review the AM 95 and realy i have to say the Sound of this AMP is not to beat for this Price. Absolute Powerful, detailed and clear, amazing! I am happy to have now one in very good condition. Thank you again for the recommendation!
just come back after a 4 hr round trip to pick up an akai am 95 - as a direct result of this video, got for £300 so not too bad ,sounds wonderful, better than my pioneer, marantz rotel or optonica. thank you

Ich wollte nur kurz kontrollieren ob alles funktioniert. Und dann bin ich vom Sofa gefallen. So ein fantastischer Sound. Viel voller und präziser als der Sony. Beide bleiben, aber der AKAI läuft in 95% der Fälle, der Sony nur noch selten. Ich kann eine sehr eindeutige Empfehlung für den AKAI aussprechen. Wenn ihr einen findet sollte ihn sofort kaufen. Great big vintage amp from Akai,. i have the AM-73 and the CD-73, so nice build and sound, NOT that solid as the Sony ES but still, very amazing,.... i have little probs with the switch , very dirty i think,...great review Andrew ;)
Akai was never less worth as Sony. The Amps from Akai and many of their tape decks were most likely better than a Sony at the same price or even a bit less.
AKAI I know akai eaven the personal stereos are the BEST-BEST-BEST sound there is . AKAI could replace YAMAHA for me . That black one u have there , well , its not mine now is it. So , I can go and play with my self until I get mine
I have Am 73 model,rated 100W/channel/8 ohm,yours is rated 130 w/channel.....even 100 w is too much....i have a Pioneer SA 6700 rated at 40w/channel/8 ohm...it seems to be weak,but is not.....The Pioneer sounds warmer,very nice bass and crisp highs,Akai sounds more detailed!Nice amp anyway,very well built,like a tank,can beat any modern amplifier in sounds,quality!
that's the most difficult question because even I am still not 10% happy. Last month I bought the canton karat 709 dc and those are playing all those time but although these speakers sound great I am still not convinced, every day i switch over to my old magnat zero 7's and the bass from the magnats are better but the clearity of the cantons are so much better. I wonder that when I would do a filter upgrade those magnat will sound better because the magnat tweeters are very hard to beat as is the bass. i have plenty new speakers here still not tested and one for one I will hook them up, one of them is the b&w dm/II. It al depends how much money you want to spend, I bought the cantons for 375, If i had the plan to spend up to 1000 euro i would be 100% happy with the jbl xpl 200 ore the heco statement
I have recently come across the lower version AM-73 amplifier. I know the person who had it and it was working perfectly prior to being stored, in original box, for 4 years. I unpacked the amplifier and tried powering it up, however the power button continues to flash, which means the protection system is engaged. I have connected the amp to the same speakers that was originally hooked up, however it continues to flash. Has anyone come across this issue, as I am having problems locating a local technician who is familiar with this issue.
very very nice system sound is lush and smooth the bass is nice and deep and the highs is very clear. And is not a nice looker I believe is not the looks is the performance is counts that is very much true. imagine put these heybrook hb 1 speakers (hint, hint, hint) OMFG it well be sound magical with this set up and now that's what I call the 80s hi-fi.
If you can find the old Cyrus Two Special Edition plus the PSX external power supply (optional but highly recommended), this is for you. Minimalist, strange shoe-box looks (but not ugly), build like a tank (not in size, but in quality materials) and designed to last for many, many years. All the above assuming you find one unit and it has been treated as it deserves. I own TWO sets like I've described and they haven't had the slightest problem since I purchased them, some 30 years ago. None of them are for sale, sorry.
hey vintage stereo, If you loved the Akai system sounds you really really want to try these pair of (HEYBROOK HB 1) loudspeakers they're where the best speakers at the time in the 1982 to 1990 but in the UK and where I lived many many people I speak too people in the past they're even said it was the beautiful sounding speakers.

the cd is made from records, after i bought the cd i could hear sometimes that it was made from copies of vinyl records so not a original cd from a record label. I believe it was only sold in the Netherlands for soul lovers.

And you should be looking out for one there are great pair and can't not afford to miss one. to be honest with you my uncle got one but when I was a child. That's was the first in loved with the hi fi. but the new speakers out in the market is all right. But you won't beat the Heybrook hb1 speakers. and i understand you loved vintage stereo and so I am as well it's bring a childhood memories and the most important key factor
turntableman100 thanks for that but I am not a person for kit things. I have in my collection a pair of little square allison six speakers with rotten woofer rands. I have them for 2 years now and really no idea what to o with them. I think i am not able to change the woofer rands, i have no confidence in my craftsman skills. Because i go take out the tweeters from my magnat msp 60 to use in the msp 120 I was thinking to use the 8"woofers from those magnat speakers in the allisons..... recommendations please if this is a good move.

Why not Mission 700 Series (just for putting another British example). Or Harbeths? Or Rogers? Or so many really good Britain speakers?
