I'll try to give some context for the hub world's secret rooms. 0:28 First secret: Old Pillar John design, cheeseslime and pepperoni goblin unused animations and unused enemy for the scrapped Cheese Dragon boss stage (rip toppin rangers). 1:51 Second secret: The Meatball enemy was gonna be used to destroy some obstacles in Oregano Desert. 2:52 Third secret: unused texture, background and transformation for the scrapped Pizzaland level (i think Don't make a sound took its place). 4:50 Fourth secret: unused enemies for the Kung-fu level (the concept was used for the second half of the Pig City level). 5:52 Fifth secret: a reference for Noisette Café comic. 7:14 Sixth secret: unused content for the scrapped Mansion level (that later was turned into Fun farm). 9:13 Seventh secret: unused Noise's washing machine tranformation (yes, he was and still planned to be playable) and Snick, an exclusive playable character for the Sage demo. His ghost costume is from the Hardoween demo.
I appreciate that Pizza Tower isn't one of those lore-heavy games, and that the story is simple enough for you to get the idea of what's happening and doesn't intrude on the gameplay, which is clearly the game's core selling point. That being said, I AM intrigued by what lore actually is in the game. It's not much, but the cryptic message about a "man from your previous life" at the top of the Pizza Tower from Pizza Granny, what the heck Fake Peppino is and how it ties into the Peppino Clones seen in the War level, and in particular Pillar John, his brother Gerome, and how they both connect to the Pizza Tower and Pizzahead. Since the story and lore isn't given that much attention, it's left to players to figure out what it all means for themselves, which can be fun. ...Almost makes me wonder if MatPat will ever play Pizza Tower and start theorizing stuff. Edit: Side note, while I'm disappointed that Cheese Dragon ultimately wasn't a boss in the final game, I'm glad it managed to appear in the final game in some form. Also Pillar John's original look, complete with a crossed-eyed expression.
the whole "man from your previous life" thing is talking about PizzaHead, and how in another game, he was the hero of his own game called "Pizza Boy Tower" where Peppino was the villain. though i would imagine that here, it's all just a delusion created by PizzaHead as a reason to justify his crimes against... well everyone. Edit: or it could be talking about Peppino's past life as the villain... i dunno lmao
9:49 the character with the red hat under the sheet is Snick, the same one from the missing poster, was playable in demo and showcace builds as was in other builds the Noise and other characters that show up as bosses in final release
The reason that the secret ending is called the “happy ending” is since: John and Gerome are actually brothers. However, John was transformed into a hive mind of pillars forced to hold up the doorway portals that lead to each level. (Meanwhile, Gerome was forced to be the tower’s only janitor.) That’s why, when you destroy John in each level, it looks like the level is collapsing and everything goes to chaos. During the secret ending, however, John is revived (in his actual form) and finally gets revenge on pizzahead, and John and Gerome can live happily ever after.
part of why i decided to try out the game was because you decided to, and honestly i enjoyed the game! got 75% when i first finished, with 15/19 treasures and all toppins except 2. currently proudly sitting at 86% with all treasures, all toppins, and p-ranks for john gutter, all the bosses (excluding fake peppino) and the crumbling tower of pizza!
0:58 it's enemies from old versions that ended up unused (Old John Pillar Design, Unused dragon boss from the old level "Dragon's lair" and the unused Weenie knight enemie that used to be the way you get the weenie, and the cheeslime enemie alongside the goblin enemie)

As far as I'm concerned the final boss dude is just a troll and set this whole thing up just for the memes, dude just has that feel (also on the end screen of the video your channel icon popped up right on top of Peppino's face and we got Cherrino, it's beautiful)
The cheese dragon was originally the floor 1, he was the boss. You would have 5 Toppin warriors and the stage would take place in pizza time, every minute pizza face would take one of your Toppin warriors, then the cheese dragon would block your path. You needed to grab a nuke I think and throw it at him, making him leave. (I think the Toppin warriors acted as health btw) the cheese dragon would appear a few times, but once you grab the key you can leave. That’s some context behind the cheese dragon in the secret room. That enemy on the weenie hound (whatever it’s called) is also a scrapped enemy from blood sauce dungeon of pizza scape. So yeah, some context of cheese dragon and weenie hound boi. At 0:30 btw

You dont actually "need" to collect all 5 toppins, its just because you also need to get the score requirement for S rank and the toppins help with that a lot

29:02 to get a p-rank (or a "full rating" as you called it) you need to get every secret and treasure in the level + do lap 2 + never lose your combo. in the case of the crumbling tower of pizza you just have to get as much stuff as you can, never lose your combo and get to the exit as fast as you can! if you get the required score and never lose your combo, you get a p-rank
if you get all the secrets and complete the game, it will show a eye somewhere, for example (that i know): is at bloodsauce dungeon (Its in other worlds but im only gonna do floor 1). If you go to the eye, you will see Gustavo, a music player, and a character king in the back. You can play all the music from pizza tower using the three controls on the music player, both gustavo and peppino will dance, and the king in the back will move side to side
If you don't know already, the thing hiding under the towel is actually a scrapped character called "Snick." Snick was a character you used to be able to play as in the demo version of the game. Unfortunately, it got removed. Now he is only seen in that secret room. 9:45
About the Old Tower, yes it's unused content: the cheese with the sawblade is actually a Camembert Squire, and the dragon, alongside the Camembert Squire, were planned to be used in a scrapped level named "Dragon's Lair". Besides that, everything else in the room is used (Pepperoni Goblin, Cheeslimes, and Pillar John).
undertale (all 3 endings), metal gear rising: revengeance, and now pizza tower have the award of "most banger final bosses in all gaming" in my heart. difficulty, personal motivation, fighting back like absolute hell, music, and a fitting, excellent resolution. they inspire me so. pizza tower is a phenomenal speed platformer. fantastic job, merg, and kudos to tour de pizza.
How did it not occur to you how disturbing the bacon room is? It's a hidden, poorly lit room lined with bacon... in a city populated with sapient *pigs.* That there's a metric ton of *people-meat.*
If you find all of the secret eyes, you unlock a sound test, after finding them you have to beat the final boss again and you'll find an eye in every floor where it leads to the sound test
Really, that cutscene is not the only thing changing on the "Good ending". It's a small detail, but one of the arts on credits actually has happy Pillar John, which, without good ending, instead gets blacked out as a "mysterious" shape.
5:04 fun fact about english phonology. when an aspirated stop like /tʰ/ comes after /s/ like in the word "stick" it's actually pronounced like it's unaspirated counterpart [d̥]. meaning that when merg says "sus stick" here, you're not mishearing him. he is technically literally saying "sus di*k" :)
Speaking of snick, someone has an infinite lap mod for Pizza Tower. Basicly, it spawns another "Lap 2" portal when your in lap 2. If you go in it, it says "Lap 3" instead. However, reaching lap 10 causes Snick.exe to chase you. (Note: Snick is actually a reference to sonic, so therefore: snick.exe is a reference to sonic.exe) There is a song for the music for snick chasing you. The song is called "SNICK IS COMING".
Random tip: If you're going for a P rank, pressing shift while you're still superjumping will cancel the jump and initiate a shoulder bash, which puts you at mach 3. (Or 2)

If you go to the eye, you will see Gustavo, a music player, and a character king in the back. You can play all the music from pizza tower using the three controls on the music player, both gustavo and peppino will dance, and the king in the back will move side to side

If you don't know already, the thing hiding under the towel is actually a scrapped character called "Snick." Snick was a character you used to be able to play as in the demo version of the game. Unfortunately, it got removed. Now he is only seen in that secret room.

About the Old Tower, yes it's unused content: the cheese with the sawblade is actually a Camembert Squire, and the dragon, alongside the Camembert Squire, were planned to be used in a scrapped level named "Dragon's Lair". Besides that, everything else in the room is used (Pepperoni Goblin, Cheeslimes, and Pillar John).

If you find all of the secret eyes, you unlock a sound test, after finding them you have to beat the final boss again and you'll find an eye in every floor where it leads to the sound test
Really, that cutscene is not the only thing changing on the "Good ending". It's a small detail, but one of the arts on credits actually has happy Pillar John, which, without good ending, instead gets blacked out as a "mysterious" shape.

Speaking of snick, someone has an infinite lap mod for Pizza Tower. Basicly, it spawns another "Lap 2" portal when your in lap 2. If you go in it, it says "Lap 3" instead. However, reaching lap 10 causes Snick.exe to chase you. (Note: Snick is actually a reference to sonic, so therefore: snick.exe is a reference to sonic.exe) There is a song for the music for snick chasing you.
The song is called "SNICK IS COMING".
