Joel just sets up the camera for every date he's on, so he can claim "it's for a video" when things take an awkward turn.
Recently single. I’m gonna buy a camera.
And when he has enough footage he makes it into a masterpiece like Pretend That You Love Me
Genius
@@RMVideos92 still don't know if that was acting or not
She keeps falling for it too
Im literally never prepared for the direction Joel takes things in
Just out of curiosity, literally no ill will, who are you imagining you are talking to? I picture like a bunch of guys like me
That’s the beauty of it
@mostly true it is an emotional rollercoaster
oh... I might be the first to catch that?
Never let ‘em the know the next move, Joel knows the game.
The genuine "oh shit" look on her face when the glass broke, followed immediately by a shot where the glass has been replaced is my favorite part of the whole video
and the glass is replaced two times even :D
Did it even break, or is that just a sound effect of a glass breaking.
@@tithund It did, you can see parts of it flying away. With sound effects as well.
She was genuinely surprised. If you watch closer, she closed her eyes, expecting juice to come flying out, then she realized it didn't but broke anyway, and she had to gently resume her composure
Actually the glass that broke didn’t have the red liquid in it to be replaced with a glass with red liquid.
I feel like Hannah is probably the perfect character match for Joel's skits. Joel is like a nervous chaos and she is like a confident chaos. It feels very natural when they are acting together.
Does she have her own channel?
she really grounds the performance in reality somehow, it's a great match for Joel's sometimes understated kind of humor
Really would have fallen flat had she just played a straight man here and acted weirded out, but her subverting expectations by completely accepting all this as normal and playing into it made it way funnier.
Like, we're set up to expect a cringe humor skit the moment he starts doing the claw arm, but instead she's sitting there trying to get the angle right on opening the cooler, moments after inserting coins into Joel. If I were a smart movie man like Joel I'd probably know the name for the exact kind of absurdist humor here but just something about that first attempt to grab the glass builds an awkward tension for her reaction only for it to be entirely accepting, it just made me giggle.
@@Helmic what makes it even funnier is that the original claw joke isnt even funny to begin with
@@Helmic yeah I agree her going along with it is brilliant
I love how Hannah is staying completely nonjudgmental and positive throughout all this
She wants that claw money
i dunno man i'd expect that from someone who talks to seals on the phone in english
She instantly gets it. The generations of torment, the family curse that even their wealth cannot cure. Their desperate attempt to communicate the difficulty of their existence to the world, only for it to become a commodified joke. How could she be cruel?
Well she does think seals speak english and have phones.
She literally talks to seals..... The shit they have to say has prepared her for every situation.
Every time I think I’m done with this guy he claws his way back into my life
i see what you did there
Oh. Shit. He dropped it again.
dzzzzzztch
I was about to make an obligatory “just when I think I’m out” joke, but then I realized the entire comment was an ingenious pun
Just when I think I’ve got the prize
im so happy with how little i was expecting that to happen
omg berd
YES same
I have been straight up binging berd videos lately
The chance of finding berd in the comments of a random funny video is low, but never zero
I'm still waiting for the berd and Joel collab
Joel has a little cut on the arm he's leaning on. He totally Leonardo Dicaprio'd this after the glass smashed, and kept going with the scene after his injury.
Truly, an actor of our generation.
Joel is our Discount DiCaprio
i don't want to disappoint but he had this cut from the start.
Unless he had this cut from failed attempt.
@@HakureiReimuOfficial Leonardo Discountprio
It's an old cut. Still, one of the actors of all time.
Hannah is a natural at pretending to love Joel.
Yeah me too, haha. Pretending.
That’s not Maggie Gyllenhaal?
Plot twist: She does love him and does these videos because of that but Joel is oblivious and thinks she's just acting.
@@bobafettjr85 that’s a bad twist anyone could write that
They'll get married one day and Joel will post a completely serious video of it and everyone will just laugh thinking it's all a joke but the joke is that it won't be.
when he started doing it i thought "okay that's funny" then i watched the video and kept thinking "this is funny" then when the video ended i thought to myself "hey that was funny" thank you joel
This is the perfect summation of my exact sentiment.
What an arc
i said L-O-L a few times throughout the presentation
Trent, is that you?
I said lol in my head but remained entirely straight faced
All this time, I thought I was wasting my time at the arcades. Little did I know, I was learning the secrets to win a girls heart.
And that girl is Bluey

Any girl apprecieates a man with a good claw.
Beeing wealthy?
true facts, if you can get the prize she wants from the claw machine, you will also be getting the prize you want ;)
im very happy you made this joel
thank you Liam
@@Joel-Haver No, thank you. And yes, I'm not Liam.
@@darthsmack7090 No no, thank you. (Not Joel here)
@@szymonanonim7214 finally someone said it, thank you!

The fact that they're both laughing makes this feel less like a sketch and more like a scene from a rom-com
i think its just cuz hannah is like actually just a straight up good actor
Thanks for your work
@@Crokto Yeah she's so invested it makes the whole thing work.
@@Crokto shes terrible what are you talking about
@@bartholomewesperanza3442
Besides being an otherwise negative person, why do you believe that?
This is so stupid and the joke is really repetitive, but somehow it's hilarious every time because there's just enough variation
Brilliant job, Joel
How the girl is not laughting all the time
@@TheDenniii She's a professional!
I'm just happy Joel is willing to suffer through how every many takes it took for our entertainment
He is very good at finding just the right moment to stop driving a dumb joke into the ground... so it stays an enjoyable dumb joke and doesn't stray into annoying dumb joke territory.
Have another like.
DZZZZ - TCH
Joel just REALLY wanted to make *chhhsh* sounds for a whole sketch
Bruder was machst du hier? 😂
I find it adorable how respectful she is to his… condition.
I love how she instantly get’s into it
Is she the one if she doesn't 😔
Tbf that was actually pretty entertaining, irl it would be a bit cringeworthy to drop out of nowhere but it would also be quite fun I assume :p
His rotoscoping has gotten incredible. Looks almost exactly like live film.
Almost.
Still a bit within Uncanny Valley territory, though
That made me cackle
I'm especially impressed with how well done the claw machine looks, it almost looks like a real claw machine
But for some reason it looks like he made it resemble a person? Still really impressive though 👏
Ebsynth has come a long way
I'm so happy we live in a world where this is not only a thing that Joel can just do, but he also gets 100k+ views on it in a day. I just wanna see Joel do whatever goes through his mind forever, it's peak entertainment
100k+ a day, each day. Life is good.
I was having a really hard day with adversities I could not have prevented, among some that I could. I had not seen Joel’s stuff for longer that usual. Long story short, I feel better.
On the surface this is really funny material, a well shot video and at least one very attractive human. But deep down it’s a dude putting his entire soul into his work and that emotion(s) that went into the piece itself, comes thru like a rock song, like a sculpture, like a poem.
I feel what I think you felt or at least hoped I would feel. And it made me better a bit. Thanks
Thanks for the beautiful words, really means a lot
one attractive human claw machine u mean
Brilliant foreshadowing in saying that he doesn't do much. When he started to not do much I was like "Woah!!!"
I think the video takes place in an utter fantasy world. An arcade machine would NEVER give you your money back.
@@johngoepel5263 You can't be as generous at work
they are both insane, one thinks they can talk to seals and the other thinks he's the inspiration for the claw machine.
Look just because you're not a seal therapist
He's clearly the inspiration for the claw machine tho
They’re perfect for each other!
They speak English
You mean they're both insaeno style
If Joel was sitting on this absolute masterpiece for two whole years what other arcane short film legends exist in his mind?!
I'm pretty impressed with the fact his dad managed to invent claw machines if his hands move like that too.
I like to think what Joel actually meant was that he "invented" the claw machine by conceiving it and that Joel is actually the biological parent of all existing claw machines.
Well, he just had to do the thinking and patenting part of the invention. He could let others build it.
This is potentially the greatest date scene of all time
I love how Joel includes the character breaks in his edits cause I would never be able to film something this ridiculous with a straight face. I love it.
After having always enjoyed blooper reels, i recently realised it's because they make scenes funnier. Aside from it being a natural impulse to laugh when others are laughing, it's more comidic and also endearing to see actors breaking because of how funny the joke or delivery is, rather than deriving themselves of that joy to stay straight, or taking out/altering the joke to that end.
It gives me more understanding of how rediculous certain bits are than when i first saw them and humanises the actors to see them laughing along with us
The commitment to the bit is insane
The masterstroke of this sketch for me is how tolerant she is of his behavior. _That_ is the real humor for me.
This video went Claw Mode on god fr
The Hallmark channel proudly presents: “Clawing for Love” starring heartthrob Joel Haver
This summer, get a grip on romance.
In the movie version can he have a fun robotic prosthetic costume (he can still do the mouth noises)
Soundtrack by Arcade Fire.
i actually really like how wholesome this is instead of falling back into cringe humor, very cute and refreshing!
The hand grab into pulling her towards him was smooth
When she put in a quarter and Joel pulled a dime out of his mouth, because it was 5 cents a play and she'd done 3 plays 😂
As hilariously awkward as this is, the moment when he holds her hand is really sweet
I love how supportive she is, even with his disability she loves him all the same
I love that she likes him and wasn't annoyed at his weird claw problem
Her patience with Joel is really what makes this scene phenomenal, I'm really never emotionally ready for Joel's uploads.
I love how you can make everything awkward. That's a talent.
@DONT WATCH MY VIDEO This guy can make everything awkward too.
...
Do you know a *non*-awkward way of picking up things like a claw machine??
@@Sol-cf9ko is it a deep question though...?
Du förstår - varenda gång han tänker göra en video, så är det så att han har en plan (lysande)
Or making everything awkward into something funny; I'd say that's the talent
I love the fact that she's okay with all of that and wants to hold hands with him, it's so much better than if she lost interest in him because of that
Joel simply doesn't miss. Every sketch is an instant classic.
THIS REMINDS ME SO MUCH OF MY DAD, INVENTOR OF CAPS LOCK

The scenario and Hannah's character here somehow immediately took me back to the first dates a young me went on with what would end up being my first great love: A gal with enough of some arcane combination of good humor, genuine interest, and grim determination such that she was able/willing to overlook how much of an oblivious dork I was and snatch me up out of the dating pool in exactly the way a claw machine doesn't.
Such natural comedy. Effortless and gold.

This is the sweetest love story between a seal and a claw machine that I've ever seen.
I love how genuine that apology and forgiveness was
I absolutely love the random times when someone breaks character followed by the cut LOL
This feels like the most purely Joel thing he's ever done.
I think his film, Pretend to Love Me, takes the cake for that.
the title and observed execution inspires me
We need a Joel and Nathan Fielder video. That would be the greatest team up in human history.
Oh man, Joel Haver and Nathan Fielder for You? Add John Wilson too and I'd probably explode
But also the most awkward team up
I was thinking the same thing but with Tim Robinson
Your videos always make my day brighter, thank you 😄

@@Joel-Haver Honestly I completely agree. This platform would be a little darker without you, I genuinely mean that.
I had no idea where the video was going in the beginning and that's special
Her facial expression when she saw the glass shatter… I’m shocked she was able to remain as composed as she did cuz you *know* that wasn’t scripted.
I cannot imagine where this idea came from, but this is fantastic

This is genuinely good acting and writing, I never see things this good on RUclips
My favorite part of this is that the date actually went really well
How the hell does Joel manage to both perfectly capture the beauty and nuance of human interaction an conversation, and invent the most absurd storylines at the same time? He really is one of a kind!
I love how your videos are always showing such odd people without it ever being judgemental or mean. More often than not, they're actually sweet and kind and touching. I love that about you.
This is brilliant...I love that they holds onto the concept the entire video. Love it.
I'm betting two dollars that the bruise on his elbow is from an earlier take of the glass shattering.
