I don't play violin - but even I can hear a HUGE difference in the sound! From thin and harsh to rich and melodious.

I started this awareness since starting violin lab 3 weeks ago. I do need to keep checking, because I can revert back 😉. It sure makes a difference. Thanks for sharing this important tip with everyone 😊❤

I love mindfulness and relaxation-type exercises for practicing! I might recommend this video to a specific student. Thanks!!

You're right! Mindfulness is the term. It's amazing how "unmindful" I was most of my formative violin learning years. 😩 Such time wasted.

I wasn’t able to lift mine as high as yours, nor hold it as long. I had surgery on my shoulder decades ago. I appreciate this, as my shoulder tires easily.

Being more aware of the relaxation will definitely improve stamina. Glad you found it helpful.

You just made something click for me. Thankyou.
I just realised, that I end up getting to somewhere near the desired position through sheer fatigue. And all of a sudden, I'm playing with less effort, and better tone.
I've been kidding my self this whole time thinking it's because I'm " warmed up".
It's just because my trap muscle has completely given out. 😂

Thanks so much. The video was quite enlightening. I am stuck, and I cannot play Beriot number 9. Which books or exercises do you recommend to me? Thanks a lot!

Brilliant exercise. Your violin sounds gorgeous. Could you talk about it and your bow? My violin is a very well made Mazhibin, but it has a very slow response and very little projection. It took me a few years of playing to realize that it wasn't me, but my violin and bow were just not up to what I was trying do. Thanks, Jack

I'm very fortunate to have an old 7/8ths Italian (maker undetermined) violin and a French pernambuco bow. It's worth searching and trying many instruments and bows to find "yours".

Do this first ting before you start to play and quickly, you're body will remember the feeling of the dropped shoulder.

@@violinlab I'll give it a go . I struggle. Never truly comfortable holding violin. Constantly trying to readjust. Tried every shoulder rest. A true challenge. I have considerable pain . Big kink in left neck/shoulder. Over covid times I had a horrible frozen shoulder. Physical therapy and it's better now. I pray for an answer 🙏
