First time I was watching out for Theos podcast. I listen to a decent amount of them. I was definitely waiting for this one though. Wonder if he released it early because of the leaked audio.
Beautiful moment bro. And good on you for having the presence of mind to say “we don’t have to talk about it. I can just sit here with you.” That shit broke my heart. Love you for that.
The Jesse ventura episode bothering theo, bothered me. Let guests say what they need to, and I think he learned since then. Theo is always great and I think he knows he's loved now even if he doesn't speak much. He's getting good at this.
Telling Sean "oh man I can just sit here with you" as Sean started crying,no bro, that was not empathy whatsoever, that was Theo trying to keep conversation funny,he just wanted to deliver his "I used to pee around my bed" joke, watch the clip again you'll see what i mean,i was extremely disappointed
@@JulianPiliertheo started talking about his story of fear as a child. It wasnt a joke. He peed around his bed to protect himself as a kid. It sounded like a joke, but he finished the story after he gave Sean time and repeated "I'm sorry" to him. This was wholesome and wonderful to see. I had to rewatch it right when i heard it to see if he was making a joke as well. He wasnt. Then he told the story. ❤
I didn’t listen to this episode till last night on my drive home from PA and I was driving with just my son in his car seat in the back and I’m hearing all of this and tearing up because I have my own battles with depression and I’ve been sober for over 3 years now but I’m dealing with all my emotions head on so I definitely related to what Sean was going through. My trauma was a little different. My dad just wasn’t around at all and It was just me and my mom for so long. I’ve gained a lot of respect for Sean and Theo handled this interview like a champ. Hats off to the both of these guys. You never know what someone is going through so just be kind and a good person to everyone you come across.
This was an intense and very captivating interview. I listen to a lot of podcasts and they get boring with the same routine but this was raw and intriguing. I wish this went on for a few hours
I relate too much to how his brain works so I crack up at Theo probably more than I do any other human on this planet 😂 “How many words can you type per minute?” Very valid question for some reason hahaha
@@SuperSalad7 "By who?!" "I don't fuckin' know, dude!" Like he's just making shit up, yet you're seeing photo evidence being popped up on the screen to backup every claim 🤣🤣
I never realized what a beautiful human being Theo was until this episode. He could see what was coming, you could see it in his face, trying to take the attention off of Sean with a story for Sean's sake, professionally fighting back his own emotions. When it was impossible to avoid he was willing to just sit there with him, like a real friend would do. He didn't run from it, change the topic. Wow, good guy. ... Good guy. Thank you Theo.
Yeah man I noticed that too , also when theo made a joke about disney channel not being "homeschooled" , he immediately saw that Sean didn't react positively to it and apologized , he's very empathetic.
So proud of this interview and proud of Theo being himself. Trauma is so hard to deal with. Him offering to just to sit there with Sean made me cry for all people who have suffered as a child.
Theo casually comforting Sean, “it’s ok man, a lot of that stuff is sad”. That is one of the best responses to a situation like this. He validated his feelings, so Sean felt like it wasn’t embarrassing to cry and then gave him his moment to process them once he realized he needed it. Fuck man that made me cry.
you have c-ptsd just like sean. my clients have it. if you want to feel better look that stuff up. and really crappy childhood fairy here on youtube has a great program and even her daily practice is free. good luck sir
WOW!! I did not think I was goin to end up crying when i turned on this podcast this morning! I have ALOT of respect for you Sean. Just to be so vulnerable talkin about the domestic violence you had to deal with as a small kid and the courage you showed is so amazing. I just RAN from a VERY abusive marriage with NOTHING. I had to leave everything behind. To wake up free with peace of mind without the stress of knowing the next battle is lurking around and you're just waiting for the other shoe to drop is priceless. Anyways just wanted to let you know how impressed I was with your interview since i didn't even know who you were and that I'm definitely now a fan and can't wait to sit and watch some of your fights!!❤ And it goes without saying that I'm already a HUGE fan of yours THEO!!❤❤❤
I’ve endured a lot of trauma as a child, and as a 20 year old adult I’m barely starting to realize that it’s trauma. Before I would just ignore it when it popped in my head and when Sean started crying man I cried too bc I have a very similar story in life. Now that my mom is gone it makes me hate myself bc I couldn’t protect her every second she felt pain. Thank you for allowing me to feel safe and cry with you two.
So much love for both of these men. I’m so glad Sean felt comfortable being vulnerable, we need more men who aren’t afraid to share their journey through the darkness so many people live in. Theo gave Sean a gift that I’m not sure many people will realize; while Sean is walking us through these traumatic memories and reliving those emotions, Theo is making Sean laugh. That is truly healing those moments for Sean. Maybe not in its entirety, but progress in the right direction.
This is the greatest podcast ive ever seen. I had respect for Sean before this because he lives life his way unapologetically. But seeing him vulnerable, man, i understand you bro.
“We don’t have to talk about it I can just sit here with you for a minute.” Theo is showing the truest form of kindness and humility in this moment. Sometimes we don’t need someone to say anything, we just want them to sit with us and know that somebody is there. This has been my favorite podcast with a guest to date by far. The laughter, the tears, it’s all in the mix here. Thank you Theo for showing Sean genuine human empathy
Big time the way he clenches his fists when hes crying he just wants to hurt something becuz the hurt inside him is so bad. As a man i think we can all relate to this at some point.
Theo, your ability to be compassionate for another fellow human being is amazing. Thank you Mr Strickland for allowing us to understand your trauma and the impact to your life. Thank you both!!
The best one yet! Excellent guest/host dynamic. You're getting really good at this Theo. So glad you decided not to cut the hard bits, young men need to hear that you can be strong and open.
Theo is a national treasure. When Sean started breaking down, Theo tried to make him laugh then quickly read the room and was able to just sit with Sean instead of trying to make him feel better. It just shows how much work Theo has done on himself and there need to be more people that can just sit with people through their darkness. Gang gang baby! Sending everyone love ❤
I used to be the guy everyone went to when they had a bad trip back in my party days. I dunno why but I enjoy listening to people and what they’re going through.
I was already a fan of Sean but this episode made me respect and understand him so much more. The fact that he was willing and able to get vulnerable and talk about his past and have the courage to post it is inspiring. It’s heartbreaking and encouraging at the same time. This level of public accountability and transparency is what we need in today’s society. You will not see this amongst any politician or public figure. I admire the sheer level of honesty and courage it takes to present this side of yourself in the public eye. This is growth. This is change. This is what society needs. Thanks Sean🙏
It’s one thing to break down into tears as a “tough guy”, but it’s a whole other level of respect when Theo offers to cut that part out and Sean says nope, leave it in, let the world see.
When Sean saw Theo felt the trauma first hand and shed a tear first, Sean knew he could finally share his pain with Theo and just let go. So grateful to have someone like Theo on earth.
The world doesn't deserve Theo, he is such an amazing genuine soul, we are so very lucky to have him. I appreciate him giving anyone and everyone a platform to tell their story and he has absolutely no judgement. For him to say we don't need to talk I can just sit here with you says so much about his soul. Amazing, I am so fortunate to have found Theo.
@@joey13766 He's obv joking. Comedians will even joke about trauma, but clearly when it came down to it Theo showed compassion and solace with silence when needed. You can even see him tear up seeing the little boy in Sean hurting.
i’m a psychologist and this was such an interesting case. he clearly has so much trauma. and while someone like him would benefit IMMENSELY from internally overcoming it, it’s also what led him to become one of the greatest fighters on earth. So hopefully he can get to the top of his game and then whenever he decides to retire at somepoint(preferably before he starts murdering people) he can begin to try to workout his struggles because you can’t push that shit down forever.
Man this was so emotional and raw. Tears came down Theo’s eyes not even 15 seconds after Sean started. Im not familiar with Sean or follow UFC, but this was just straight up raw and i wanted to just give bro a big hug
“We don’t have to talk, I can just sit here for a minute.” We all need a Theo Von in our lives man. This random internet stranger loves ya if you’re reading this. Stay strong everyone.
I like how Sean uses violence as a defensive mechanism and Theo uses laughter. Even when Sean was breaking down Theo used the peeing around the bed line to try and make Sean laugh and cheer him up. Really powerful episode
Hypocrite Makes fun of izzy after the fight being all emotional.... And NOW he is the one crying ... I thought he was a man's man, can't show emotions .....
The fact that he’s genius to see how Sean holds very contradictory beliefs, and as someone who has experienced and takes his trauma seriously, it’s just hypocritical that he isn’t empathetic to others’ trauma. He said when Dricus insulted him about being beat as a kid, those words “crossed the line”. Sean thinks you can’t joke or insult people about child abuse because it’s a sensitive. You can see how much it hurts him thinking about it and thinking about the trauma he associates with it. But he doesn’t hold the same perspective to other peoples’ traumas. People who were beat up as kids for being a different race, and women who were sexually assaulted get the same bad feelings when someone insults them about those things the same way Sean gets bad feelings when someone insults him about his things. But Sean disregards other peoples’ trauma entirely, despite knowing how his trauma makes him feel, which is just hypocritical.

How this podcast hasn’t taken over the internet world is weird. This is the most incredible podcast I have ever seen. I felt every damn emotion possible
Sharing and processing emotions is a sign of strength, and Sean definitely has it. Such a powerful conversation. If you're suffering, keep going. There are better days on the horizon. ❤
As a man who works in mental healthcare, often supporting individuals with trauma its so inspiring seeing a guy like Sean show a tear and not be embarrassed about it. Nothing to be ashamed of and incredibly brave. Hope he gets it done against DDP
I duno guys, I feel he interrupted way too much in this interview. He goes down these rabbits holes and doesn't allow sean to finish his sentence then sean ends up having to remember what he was saying rather than theo picking up from were they left off.
Seeing the real genuine empathy for sean makes me like Theo even more than i already did. You dont find very many good hearted people like this anymore.
their dynamic was fun to watch. Sean going at Joe, Theo being loyal to Joe but entertaining his guest, Sean trying to bully Theo, theo having him fact checked and reigning him in on rants and prejudices... but theyre both hurt, and theo manages it with humour, sean with aggression. and its only after they go through all that sparring, then they get real, then they become equals, then they get deep, then they connect. Its fuckin beautiful.
Never thought I'd cry watching Theo, what a good guy. Massive respect for Sean as well. When Theo said "it's OK, we don't have to talk, we can just sit here "
That was an unexpected, but at least in the top five conversations ever. Sean is a real awesome man, and it takes a lot of courage to talk about pain and coping with it. Thanks Theo, gang
The amount of statements being misinterpreted is hilarious 😂 Two guys having two completely separate conversations but talking to each other with periods of mass confusion. Hoping they do these more often.
I think it shows how a lot of men process or deal with trauma in their childhood. It’s like it sucks it happened but you also can’t afford to let it distract us from the present.
I’m not saying this convo doesn’t take ALOT of courage.. but I’d say going into a ring where someone is paid to try and kill you in underwear is a bit more courageous
It would have been respectful had Sean not talk so much shit about fighters like Khalil Rountree Jr. who showed emotion during a press conference. It actually bothers me.. such two faced garbage. Like those who criticize homosexuality only to find out said person criticizing is a closeted deeply ashamed homosexual themself.
Damn, not in a thousand years will I ever expect the second hour of the podcast to be so emotional and heart wrenching. This is a episode I hope a lot of people see.
I actually lost a bit of respect for Sean. He constantly rips into everyone about being a man and literally shat on Khalil for crying, then he does it himself.
It hit home hard when Sean put loneliness into words. People make others feel like they don’t belong and that’s hard to deal with. I pray anyone out there who’s feeling like they’re at a breaking point can get the help they need.
Wow, again why Theo is the best. Sean, you opening the way you did, continuing the conversation, allowing Theo to air it, and continuing to work on improving yourself is true strength.
Glad Sean asked to leave the emotional breakdown in. My opinion of him changed right there as it paints the picture of why he behaves the way he does. Experienced something similar myself, got me balling my eyes out. Respect guys.
Also want to add that just reading through the comments says a lot about kind of people here and how much love and compassion we truly have for one another. Beautiful
He went from complaining about ventura, to realizing he's loved anyways, and he can just let people go. It's not a competition. Funny that Sean said he's a Rogan level on this episode.
Theo, you're simply the best. You make me laugh. I'm usually the one making people laugh. It's refreshing to be able to jump on RUclips and laugh out loud at any one of your podcasts that I randomly choose. You're also a good human being. That's the most important! ❤

Beautiful moment bro. And good on you for having the presence of mind to say “we don’t have to talk about it. I can just sit here with you.” That shit broke my heart. Love you for that.
Probably one of the best Theo von episodes ever! Sean and Theo really connected near the end, wholesome content right here
Seeing Theo try his best to steer the conversation was hilarious, Sean can't be stopped or distracted in the slightest 🤣
😂😂😂😂
yeah because he clearly didn’t want to steer the convo😭 he wanted to get out what he was saying
The Jesse ventura episode bothering theo, bothered me. Let guests say what they need to, and I think he learned since then. Theo is always great and I think he knows he's loved now even if he doesn't speak much. He's getting good at this.
Theo literally goes perfectly from joking to caring and super empathetic. Good guy
@@JulianPilier Shut up

"He was in the war" "What war?" "I don't know he liked wearing gloves and sh.." "maybe the war on drugs" "pull up a war" 😂😂😂 Love Theo
LOLOL Quinten Tarantino couldn’t even script this
I relate too much to how his brain works so I crack up at Theo probably more than I do any other human on this planet 😂

Amen to that
This is a very Theo response...he has some friends on this pod who spoke about deep stuff and he would have such a response too

Great way to break it down and look at it ! I hope others can take somn from that and ur comment as well!
Sincere thank you and respect to both for this interview. This level of -real- is rarely seen today. Fair dues for doing this and sharing it.
Such a great analysis of the situation. Theo's actions (and Sean's, too) were a masterclass in just being a good human.
Theo would make a great therapist
First time both Theo & Sean were real, they actually broke character for once.

There are so many different times where Theo tries to hide his emotion to help Sean continue and it’s really touching to see his level of empathy.

Sean doesn't want to kill a man, he wants to kill the pain he feels inside of himself bc of the trauma he faced as a child.

Classic interview. Hit every emotion from laughter to tears in one sitting.
It’s one thing to break down into tears as a “tough guy”, but it’s a whole other level of respect when Theo offers to cut that part out and Sean says nope, leave it in, let the world see.
thats where you know he has real balls of steel.... not just fake bravado.
He makes a good point of where the line is drawn tho...that will make a grown man cry...minor abuse, war crimes exist for a reason

Sean’s a real one for being able to even show his emotions like that you have to respect that
The fact that he’s genius to see how Sean holds very contradictory beliefs, and as someone who has experienced and takes his trauma seriously, it’s just hypocritical that he isn’t empathetic to others’ trauma.
