You can create a replicable workflow by using the midi instrument to control your video software. Setting it up is slightly different per software suite, but it's about as straight forward as implementing midi control of a music instrument. I use resolume.
thanks! i probably should have clarified - i wanted a replicable workflow in the sense that i would actually do this again, right now i'm just not entirely satisfied with the way i'm handling visuals right now so i'm not going to speak on it until i am, but thanks for the resolume tip!
