    The biggest mistake of my life was deciding to go to grad school and taking out a mountain of student loans… what a joke this has all turned into. Higher education in America is a crime.

      I noticed that too late and in reality had no idea how student loans could haunt borrowers. I had no idea what a massive expensive education system can do. It did help me in the job market, but alas, we are all scared of what can happen with the financial decisions that are not up to us but the government.

    I had ffel loans, consolidated to direct a year ago to take advantage of the adjustment & am on save plan.
    Is being on the save plan going to automatically prohibit me from the IDR adjustment? I’m not eligible for paye plan due to age of my loans

    What happens to those of us that they automatically put on SAVE plan due to being on REPAYE? I am under PSLF.
    I am up for forgiveness as of May and they put this pause due to Mohela transition.

      You'll be able to remain on the SAVE plan for now and can still achieve forgiveness under PSLF. It's only cancellation strictly under the SAVE plan that is currently halted.

    The injunction is a PITA. The Alaska,SC, Tx case barely has standing. Frankly I would consolidate today if I had a FFEL loan held by any of those states. If they no longer have significant loans they will not have standing.

      There are definitely a lot of variables to weigh. Adding that we recently hosted a PPL webinar. While the loophole closes July 2025, PPL borrowers should start this process at least 6 months before the loophole ends. Here is the webinar for those interested: ruclips.net/video/hxZVgteKXrQ/видео.html

    People need to really think about the 5 year lock into SAVE considering the changes that will most likely keep happening over that time. It wasn't even created as a new plan, it changed another plan, and told you other changes would come over time. If you're in SAVE you're stuck with it at the 5 year mark. IMO its similar to a variable rate mortgage.. If you're in something else, you at worst can go back to old IBR as its in the promissory note which is a powerful FU response. If you're in save you are locked in, and you agreed to that part when signing up. Good luck making a case you didn't know it was going to change when it was built to change from the start and changes on the whim of an administration. If its so great why do they need to force you to stay on it after a relatively short period of time considering the the time of IDR plans? If you're within 5 years of IDR forgiveness, go for it otherwise consider that 4 years might be long enough if you're just starting repayment and looking at the 20/25 year timeframe.

    One question that wasn’t addressed: the same regs that included the 10% to 5% AGI payment transition for SAVE also outlined periods of deferment and forbearance (including administrative forbearance for COVID pause) as being able to be counted towards forgiveness. Is this also at risk or do we know yet?

    It’s June 30! I’m on save with one loan left I consolidated when with Fedloans and paying on pslf plan. I’m no longer on that plan due to leaving the 9 to 5 grind. I paid off one loan during COVID but not the other which I regret not sending 23k I had in that account yet grateful bc we lived off it for last year and used it for emergencies like another car for cash

      Only control we have is paying off this debt I graduated undergraduate in 04 it’s 20 years since graduating. 09-11 I was in grad school still paying the govt whose best interest is their own not ours. There should be discount or continuing consultations for existing customers bc situations change. Like I’m only doing gig work and biz work I’m no longer in social services drastically changing our annual incomes

    • @dm5129
      @dm5129 2 месяца назад

      I don't have that much money and I always bear in mind that expenses like car payments and rent payments and food have to come first, therefore deciding to pay over long term even if that is taxed more heavily, but living expenses simply are more important. I have decided to pay off other debts that I can really pay off to lower the side bags of debt and then whichever debt, perhaps the student debt, comes along at least the financial blow will not be as severe.
