This WAS a great moment, a critical step in VT's healing process. On a lighter note, I couldn't help but look at ESPN's scroll of upcoming games and see #5 Michigan vs App State...nobody would have guessed how that would turn out!
I still remember that tragic day. I’m a diehard Florida State fan but I made it my business to see at least the opening of this game just because of the emotional tie. Respect for how this school was able to rebound. It shows not just their resilience but also how sports can really help people.
Coming from a diehard ECU fan, I will not forget the day the Hokies grew stronger in their resolve to overcome the tragedy of those 32 brothers and sisters lost. My brother is a current Hokie, and being a Pirate, watching him go through that, I will never forget the passion I saw in your faces that day. Great game. No one will ever forget. Go Pirates! Go Hokies!
I attended this game while I was a graduate student at Virginia Tech. One thing that is not mentioned nearly enough are the schools that helped us through this horrific time. Not just through donation, but through signs, collages, prayer, or just a simple embrace to students who were in dire need of hope. Our prayers will always go to the victims families, we will always remembered those lost, and we thank all of the universities that are still there for us to this day. Thank you. Go Hokies.
I remember Clemson faithful really supporting the Hokies and their fans with a true show of support and sadness. Class act those Tigers. I was there and it was truly moving to see the posters and Hokie colors being worn
Tech and ECU have a rivalry, but its like no other rivalry in college football. they relish the game but the hate associate with most rivalries isn't there. a lifelong Hokie fan, and for the last several years an ECU fan as well mad props to the Pirates community for the support for the Hokie Nation after the tragedy that beset the Blacksburg campus (where my niece is currently studying). a true Hokies fan will never forget.
mike holton East Carolina will always have a special place in my heart after their show of support. Thanks ECU. They persevered through hard times of their own and grew stronger.
Thanks for posting this I remember watching this game I remember getting emotional watching the video tribute, R.I.P to those lives lost in the shooting at Virginia Tech.
So much respect for Virginia Tech, they've been through so much these last eight years and yet they still persevere. Heaven has 32 angels watching over Hokie Nation! God bless Virginia Tech, and God bless the families of the victims.
HOKIES ROCK! I WANNA BE A HOKIE 4 LIFE PERIOD! THAT IS THE BEST VIRGINIA TECH I'VE EVER SEEN! THIS HAD ME HOPPIN' OUT OF MY SEAT! ALL 32 HOKIES ARE IN GOD'S HANDS! you rock HOKIE4LYFE! WE WILL PREVAIL WE ARE VIRGINIA TECH!
my mom cried at this. my sister was a senior at vt at the time of the shooting and she was able to get us tickets into the game. you were right this wasnt about who won and who lost. it was about how after a tragedy people came together as one. lets go hokies.
I actually watched this in my late grandfather's house. That game was really emotional Saturday in Blacksburg. Virginia Tech has my respect. I really dispies the 4 down votes. Even Cavalier fans wouldn't go that far.
i watched that that game on the tube and when i heard the music and the saw the vid i cried i'll admit it rip the folks who lost thier lives in the shooting
Seung Hui Cho can rot in hell for taking the lives of people who had ambitions for the future and were working hard for them. Still makes me tear up knowing people my age were robbed of their lives in a matter of minutes. May they rest in peace

Hard to believe that this was the same year that the greatest player in program history was arrested for dogfighting.
On that day, every single person in that stadium was a Hokie
