    Thanks for the super quick and easy to understand video, man. I've been using pedalboards forever and want to clean up the floor space in front of me for live shows and make it easier to turn multiple effects on and off with the push of a single button, and this seems like the way to go. Took me 35 damn years to finally make things easier on myself, and I think I'm gonna go for the gcx system. Thanks again, man!

    Hey, I just got one of these set ups. I am wondering how I can use it for my amps channel switching and if it’s possible to use two amps. My main is a Mesa Dual Rec and I want to use an Orange amp simultaneously. Any help I would greatly appreciate. This video was so much easier to follow and helped me a lot. Thanks dude.

    Hey man, got one myself, and I hop from loop 1out to loop 5in, then 5out to 2in. Looks a bit weird and you need to keep track of the loops more but it prevents the jump from 4out to 5in you describe ;)

    Enjoyed your video, I am actually using 4 different preamps into (left side Direct to Console) ( right side to power amp / w guitar cabs , I cannot find a video or info that helps with that ! I don't use pedals just mainly programed preamps
    Thank you for your assistance

    Interesting. Would this work the same way with fx pedals? I have 2 separate pedal boards - 1 for pedals you'd put in front of the amp, and the second for pedals you'd put through the fx loop.

    Hey, I want to buy this and the ground control pro. Here's what I have... Orange rockerverb 100 mkii. I'll be using 8 stomp boxes. So how do I hook it up to the amp and ALSO the effects loop? Or can I bypass the effects loop?

    Hey Man, Thanks for the resource. I'm a new user of loopers. I've had a Lake Butler MIDI Mitigator since 1989 when I needed it for school, (G.I.T.). Back then a MIDI cable was 5 pin. My question is when using Randall RM4 (Egnater-same as his M4) modular Preamp, it accepts a 7 pin DIN and it Ass MIDI in. I hooked up the GCX and Ground Control to it and it changes modules. 1234, corresponding footswitches. I have an RM100 too which is also MIDI channel/Module switching so I'll go through as I receive the other modules. How do I set up 1 8 channel GCX to have enough space to switch to my other Amps I haven't mentioned and I want to run my Pedal Board myself. I need short cable runs. Can you please take a look at my system? Look at Billy Corgan's Rig Rundown. Jeff Schroeder of the Pumpkins also uses my MIDI switchable Power Amp so it's all there to see in its magnificence. I literally have resurrected in identical sonic quality, Amps that you couldn't afford to have or to tour with. Selmer, Sound City and HIWATT, Vampower, Soldano, Marshall Jcm's +, Plexi's, Oranges, it's all tube and no fakery. I just need to know how the heck to let me have the control over which mod gets switched by which pedal. It's very much more confusing than it really is. Billy just uses his Scholtz Rocktron to control the Amps. He runs his effects in series. I want to go parallel. Vernon Reid showed me the DOD resistance mixer which has 4 in or 4 out with either 1 in by design, and 4 out or the reverse. It allows you to go one output to 4 so you can run effects in parallel. I use one in reverse too to return them. I do use a Gibson Custom Shop amp and a Sound City 50+ So they have a Rolls ABY. I've also got a Midi splitter. I didn't notice on Billy's rig, he has the same thing by the same company! WEIRD. We have been doing this by accident I assure you. I need no latency because of daisy chained MIDI cables. Each one leaves about 300ms. Right? I believe it's almost that severe!! If you can hook me up with an idea of the most efficient way for me to run short cables, and yet be able to reach and not have an aneurism! Thanks for the videos sooooo helpful. I hate manuals. So how can u direct a pedal into the amp loop & a diff pedal into the front of amp????

    • @WoodieLarsen
      @WoodieLarsen  2 года назад +1

      You can use any combination of the 8 loops. Could go 4 loops for pedals to go in front and 4 in the loop. Or 2 pre and 6 fxloop

    one question please, I need to get something like this, but with more than 8 channels, I like, ex( chorus at half way for clean) chorus quarter way for riff and lead, and etc, so I need to get 2 chorus, 2 reverbs ,2 delays, etc, what you recommend ?

    i've been trying to figure out what rack system I want to use with my pink floyd setup. Now does this system cut your signal chain? because it seems you are just creating a very long signal chain?

    • @WoodieLarsen
      @WoodieLarsen  5 лет назад

      Great question! I guess there are two ways to look at it. Overall Length of the signal path, and how it affects your signal path integrity (tone)
      For the first part it would depend on your individual set up, because you can use these loops either in front of the amp, or in an effects loop, depending on what you want to do.
      With that said, at it's WORST, it's no different than your regular pedal board... Guitar cable plugged into effect pedal, jumper cable, effect pedal, etc..
      However, when it's in bypass, each loop is true bypass, so your signal chain does not go through the pedal, thus, you're shortening your signal path. in theory with everything bypassed, your signal would be a hardwired from your guitar straight into the amp.
      With that point, I would say that this system (if set up properly) would be a huge improvement to overall signal integrity, as well as for versatility and ease of function. If you're running a larger amount of cable, i'd recommend using one pedal (tuner probably) on your board that would have a buffered bypass. but that's personal preference.
      Hope that answers your question.
      cheers!

    What if I want an OD in front of the amp but want to midi switch it? Would I go from a loop to my amp front? But also use an effects loop.

    • @WoodieLarsen
      @WoodieLarsen  5 лет назад

      you can use any combination of Preamp and FX loop set ups that you want. For example i usually ran my stompboxes in front of the amp (Going loops Guitar>L1>L2>L3>L4>AMP then i would use a different loop to activate a pedal for the FX loop SEND>L5>RETURN.
      Instant access for loop 5 would route the signal through the pedal inside the FX LOOP or, Disengage it in the FX LOOP. Please note, this is not the way i had it set up with my M13 at the time, as the JVM's FX Loop was midi programmable by itself, so i didn't need to.
      If your pedal that you would like to run in front of your amp are MIDI programmable, you can use the same MIDI chain to connect them, just being sure that you're programming it on it's own Midi Channel (Most devices can receive midi commands from up to 16 differen channels, thus, you could have up to 16 different midi programmed devices all sharing the same midi cable, receiving their own CC's from your GCP
      Hope that helps

      @@WoodieLarsen it does. I dont own this unit. I am looking for ways to switch my pedals in my fx loop. I want a real amp, not a processor. For example I have a precision drive in front of the amp, as well as a maxon overdrive for my "third channel" since I have a 2 ch amp. But in the loop I have a carbon copy, phasers, reverb, and a few others. I was making sure it was possible to accomplish this. I have seen the GCX on slipknot rig rundown and a few others but they never mention where they place the effects.

    Anyone else getting popping and crackling noises using the GXC switching dirt pedals? Ive read a number of people on old voodoo labs forums having the same problem but nothing recent. I have all top quality gear and cables. Its too loud to be usable.... such a bummer!

    Great video. How can I switch amps with this. I have the VOODOO lab Ground Control plus too. Also switch channels on my amp ?

    • @WoodieLarsen
      @WoodieLarsen  7 лет назад

      well you could use the GCX switcher in an "In/Send/Out" configuration. the In would be the lead from your guitar signal, the send would go to one amp and the out would go to another.. turning the selected loop "On" would route signal through the SEND, and with the loop "off" the signal would be routed through the "out" of the loop.
      Channel switching would depend on the amp, but most 1/4 inch footswitch (mono) style channel switching systems will work with a GCX by simply running one loop in a "Send" configuration with the cable plugging into the normal "footswitch" input on the amp.. however this only will work on dual channel amps and cannot be used on jacks that use multi button footswitches.
      what amp were you planning on using this system with?

      yes you can. i have a whole series of videos that go through using midi with the GCP and GCX

  • @WoodieLarsen
    @WoodieLarsen  11 лет назад

    actually you could (i just thought of this in my head..)
    you could basically split the unit in half for pre and post fx.
    follow my instructions for pedals in front of the amp.
    for POST FX you could plug your FX LOOP SEND (from the amp) to the Channel 5 input, then continue until you're done and use the GCX loops' "out" to the return of your FX LOOP RETURN.. then you could instant access and program presets for all pedals, and they'll be appropriately wired..
    Great Idea!!

      With an iec cable... for sure. They Probably do a wall wart to avoid noise from the transformer being too close to signal path.
