Yeah I like using it but I usually don’t live in the uni world. For more variety it’s also fun to do “non-traditional” students. I have a single mom with 4 kids who attends university part time and lives in a different world. You could also do older students going through mid-life crisis, a student living with family at home, etc.

I have sims live in San Myshuno and attend college from there! It still captures the hip, young, cool kid vibe but makes getting to class so much easier. I really enjoy what University adds to playthroughs.
All my Sims attend university too. I set up all of the dorms as residential, used gnome money to purchase, and rotate people through so they are never empty. Also, have people attend from their homes in other worlds. I play with aging off and age up manually. Am rotational player and have groups of people go to uni together. Listening to this as my sim starts their first (and only semester) at Law School. 😅 Thank God for a mod that makes it so that you only need 4 core classes to pass. So many weeks in University is SO much. I can only stand a week.
In Norway, the “core” student appliance is what we call a “hybelkomfyr”, which I suppose means “bedsit stove”. It’s meant to fit on a bench top, and has a small oven and a cooktop with two plates (or whatever you call the spots where you put the pots when it’s electric and not burners).
i had to look this up cos i've never heard of this, but that's amazing! it looks so handy! (btw they're still called burners, whether they're gas, electric, or induction 😊)
As someone from the UK it bothers me sooooo much that you can’t put an oven in the uni halls. My sims will never understand the pain of one oven with 4 burners per 16 sims and I think that’s sad. Also random fire alarms at 2am when a drunk person burns their toast trying to grill it 😢
The stove thing feels like an American university/college thing. Which has always confused me, especially as they based the world on British universities, yet I've lived in halls of accommodation at uni. We had two stoves for eight people. The other thing which stood out as American to me was the shared rooms. My halls didn't even have shared bathrooms, though some here do. None of the halls of residence at my uni (or at least, my campus. The uni I chose to go to has several campuses) had shared rooms, and one of the people in my flat was an American studying abroad, and the two things they pointed out as being different at American universities were the shared rooms (or lack thereof) and the stoves, and how students are expected to get their food. It just seems weird to me that the sims team decided to do a university pack, basing it on English university towns, but then failed to put the research in to what our universities are like. It ends up feeling neither British nor American. I wonder if there is any country or culture where the concept of an English-style university town and American-style university accommodation actually co-exists. If so, I guess they lucked into getting accidental university life representation.
It's kind of weird for me to think of a dorm witout stove. I myself as a student in Norway I rent a house, with stove obviously. All the rooms near te school have stoves. When I was in the US for the world university winter games my dad and I slept in dorm rooms on a campus. My dad's room had a kitchen with gas stove! Mine didn't, and somehow it felt like a hotel room😂
I don’t think anyone in Norway would even consider renting out a bedsit with a kitchenette that doesn’t at least have a bedsit stove (but ideally a full-size stove if there’s space for it), because it’s such an essential appliance.
It is a little odd but I always liked the one giant bedroom upstairs in that house - its like that one private space you can pay more for (no idea if that's a real thing). One of my favorite playthroughs I actually had a couple get engaged right out of HS, go to Uni together, and share that space.
I think because it was a stand alone house, the double bed room was meant for student couples. Married student housing is a thing in some places, especially in freestanding homes, often those used to be regular houses that the university bought when they expanded, so there is one primary bedroom and some smaller bedrooms. Because it’s a regular house converted into Uni housing.
I'm bad cause I never loved in a dorm during university. I did community college my first two years so I could drive from home and when I transferred to an actual university for my BA I wasn't required to live on campus since I wasn't technically a freshman. I worked fulltime during Uni and had a few scholarships with a living stipend, so I had my own apartment all to myself. It's probably my most nostalgic time, because living alone was amazing and no one told me I couldn't make pudding at 3am if I had insomnia.
I actually love playing University (for a semester or two before I award a degree with MCCC lol) but I'm always off living off campus (as I did irl). My first/only dorm room building was just a couple stories of rooms with a bathroom between the rooms, "rec" area in the middle of the first floor and laundry/kitchen in the basement floor (it was lowkey terrifying) in a building from the 1950s with no A/C in the middle of a semi-desert area so literally anything would be better hahaha

it's interesting to hear people talk about mini fridges in their dorms, cause when i lived on campus, we weren't allowed to have one at all unless you had a medical reason + needed it for storing your medication. Granted, the dorms i lived in all had full kitchens (either shared with the floor, or just your 1-5 roommates) so, that likely played into it a lot. it's cool learning about how other countries do things, or even how different it can be within the same country. The build turned out really cute as well, I think. The teal/greenish room on the first floor would be my pick if I lived there - it's such a nice colour to me. I'll definitely have to drop this into my new save and give it a go with a Univesity playthrough!
My sims can’t live at university because I will always get this error that won’t let me back on my game. No idea why. No one at sims could help. I have no mods 😅
I’ve been playing University and let me tell you, my biggest issue is that it takes an hour for my Sim to walk from his dorm to his classes. (A bike doesn’t really help, either)

I find stoves being banned really funny because my college did some have residential houses turned into student housing, but they still had kitchens. Even campus owned apartments had kitchens. Some of the dormitories had a common/shared kitchen. It was just the individual dormitory rooms themselves that were not allowed full size appliances.
I absolutely hate the layout of this default build but I dont ‘hate’ the look of the outside (i like that it matches the neighbors XD) so I’ve built a better layout and replace it everytime I start a new save 🤣
So spooky, I just did a dorm reno this week too! Not done one since the pack came out, and we've had ladders since then! 😂🙈 So did a sneaky ladder (bookself door) to the roof of Drake Hall for a party space. Used alot of werewolves pack (dont ask how they got a leather sofa up a ladder 😂) kegs, ping pong, the newspaper dance floor, fairy lights etc. If i had the basement kit, it would have been the vibe 👌
Everything in this video sounds so weird for me since in Finland there are no dorms (in universities). There are student housing that have shared apartments as well as one to three room apartments for those who don't want shared aparments and families and such. And there are not even enough student housing for all so some choose to live in normal apartments around the city. I lived my first 1,5 years in a shared apartment with one roommate, and the apartment was basically just a normal two bed one bathroom apartment with full kitchen. The more I hear stories of dorms the more I'm happy about the situation here...
We couldn't burn candles in our dorm rooms, and we weren't even allowed to have wax melters :') But there was one kitchen in the entire building that you could 'rent' out, so my floor did a few dinners with everyone pitching in to pay for the ingredients and stuff
When GT came out I started a legacy making my sim the brother of Don Lothario and I’m making my heir Lottie go to uni and you just made me decide which one she’s going to bc I’m using this build!😂
I love the build! Though I have to say it looks more like a frat house. I'd love to see you build a standard dorm building. You know with like multiple floors, 20 rooms, one bathroom and a shower room.
I bought University like 6 months ago and literally never played with it. I'm currently doing a let's play where I play with a Sim from Birth to death. When my Sim ages up into a teen, I'm going to go to high school. then im going to university when my Sims graduates high school and going to university to become a doctor, then I'm going to switch and play with Get To Work.
Loved seeing this university update. Always so talented! I will say, I think it’s actually pretty realistic for things to not be a perfect match. different vendors. upgrades at different times. But why everything. At least the doors & windows could be the same 😩
PSA to anyone who uses this build, the game may bug and not allow you to move a sim into this lot when enrolling, even though the settings are entered correctly. I managed to fix this by renaming it Maritime Manor. The game seems to only recognise it if it has its original lot name. Great build btw!
University just takes too long. Id love to join clubs and the secret society but I'd have to take less classes per week and then it would take forever to finish all 12. So i just use it as a skills and job booster only.
These days I always make all of them residential and just place students manually once the game generates them or play one semester in a dorm and then turn it residential and keep all my roommates.
University was the first expansion pack I ever brought for TS4! I was so excited to have add on content... i probably played 200 hours of it and every potential storyline to DEATH, so it will always have a special place in my heart
I’ve tried so many times to go to the classes in the Sims College pack and it’s impossible to have multiple a day and play and have your sims do multiple sets of homework without Cheats!!!
The university I went to owned an apartment complex where I lived for 2 years. My roommate and I shared 1 bed and a private toilet. The third girl in our apartment got her own room but we all shared the same shower in "her" bathroom.
I hadn’t played university in a long time but I re built the dorms accordingly, tried to match architecture and I think they turned out pretty cool! Added more dorm like rooms and study rooms 😊
I used to play university in the sims 4 but when I had to make a new PlayStation account I lost the packs I had before and university was one of the packs I had. Now I hope to get it again soon cause I miss it. I love your style of the way your making the campus area look.
the no-stove rule is so annoying, so I use a mod to allow them. Considering it's based on the UK (Chichester, Chester, etc), you'd think they'd base the buildings on UK unis too, which are either halls with shared kitchens or normal houses that students rent out together
When I was in college I literally had no furniture when I moved into my first apartment so it was seriously like these big empty rooms 😂 I didn’t even have a couch 💀 we were sitting on lawn chairs
Hey Kayla if you are still wondering why they built the rooms like that, is because it is based off of a Sorority and that big room is probably the founder/ leader of the Sorority
I hate that you can't have ovens or even small grills on dorms. University dorms aren't a thing where I live (you just rent an apartment) but I used to live in a dorm back in high school and we had a full kitchen there and we were bunch of kids fresh out from middle school.
Genuinely, I had such a miserable real life experience with my (very traditional looking) university, I have exclusively played in the modern university. I heard the traditional one doesn't have completely inconvenient stairs everywhere? That sounds like a game changer.
Omg one thing that annoys me about University is that I decorated their dorm rooms but everytime they would leave campus some furniture would ALWAYS disappear and it was always the same ones (computer chairs and computers). Like why? It said I would have them in my inventory but they were never there and it would keep adding up to like 60 something chairs and 60 something computers.
university will always have a soft spot for me because it came out while i was in my first year of uni (like literally the day it came out was the same day my first midterm ever happened and i remember staying up until 1am bc that's when packs used to come out for me not to study and actually experience university for myself but to PLAY A FAKE UNIVERSITY EXPERIENCE) but i will readily admit that it is a bad pack objectively
I just have to say, I've just recently found your channel on here and I LOVE your builds! I've been playing the sims since it came out when I was 11 about 23 years ago, and I've never been able to do good builds. Would love to find some of your builds in game to use!!
There was a building on my college campus that looked EXACTLY like that weird student union, except ours was silver! so many of the rooms had weird windows.

I absolutely hate the layout of this default build but I dont ‘hate’ the look of the outside (i like that it matches the neighbors XD) so I’ve built a better layout and replace it everytime I start a new save 🤣
I renovated my university world and it was totally worth, it's probably one of the packs I use the most.
omg my irl dorm was on a cul de sac it had a courtyard opening up to it that would make a pretty build (shoutout sewall hall at CU boulder)
13:28 "i literally had a mini-fridge and a microwave and that is how i survived" 😂
We couldn't burn candles in our dorm rooms, and we weren't even allowed to have wax melters :') But there was one kitchen in the entire building that you could 'rent' out, so my floor did a few dinners with everyone pitching in to pay for the ingredients and stuff
i always look forward to ur vids right at 3pm my time 💘
literally watching this as I put off moving out of my dorm. I am eating ramen and lilsimsie is my key to fixing junioritis
University windows and doors make a good summer shed aesthetic because of the panelling
When GT came out I started a legacy making my sim the brother of Don Lothario and I’m making my heir Lottie go to uni and you just made me decide which one she’s going to bc I’m using this build!😂
Challenge Idea: Make a house with nothing but "styled rooms"
Literally rely on your builds for every world 😭
Petition for Kayla to redo the entire University world. Because, yeah, the included builds are very lackluster 😵💫
I think she redid the world in her simsie save. Although it hasn’t been updated since I guess about Snowy Escape
most of my lots in the sims are literally most of your renovated ones 😂
It’s like you read my mind😂 I just raged quit and didn’t save because I couldn’t figure out how I wanted to change the sims dorms 😂
When my Sim ages up into a teen, I'm going to go to high school.
then im going to university when my Sims graduates high school and going to university to become a doctor, then I'm going to switch and play with Get To Work.
watching this on my last day living in a college dorm hits different
All I'm saying is that I think that if any part of such a small dorm building's roof was flat the residents would 100% climb up there for some reason
Added more dorm like rooms and study rooms 😊
your nails are really pretty kayla !!
The way I’ve been playing so much university lately and am so excited for this video omg
I used to play university in the sims 4 but when I had to make a new PlayStation account I lost the packs I had before and university was one of the packs I had. Now I hope to get it again soon cause I miss it.
I love your style of the way your making the campus area look.
Dang, uploaded after my sim finished uni lol. At least i can use the build for the next gen! I think im sending all my sims to uni from now on
the no-stove rule is so annoying, so I use a mod to allow them.
I would LOVE you see another university lets play with lots of drama and chaos!!!!!!
I hate that you can't have ovens or even small grills on dorms. University dorms aren't a thing where I live (you just rent an apartment) but I used to live in a dorm back in high school and we had a full kitchen there and we were bunch of kids fresh out from middle school.
Love your builds so much!!! I would also love it if you had more one-storey builds pleaseeee my adhd makes playing in multiple levels impossible!!!
the lot and theme of the video reminds me of when I did the university dorm for one of simsie's shell challenges and it was so fun !!
Genuinely, I had such a miserable real life experience with my (very traditional looking) university, I have exclusively played in the modern university. I heard the traditional one doesn't have completely inconvenient stairs everywhere? That sounds like a game changer.
so thankful this vid came up in my recommended as i'm trying to move my sim into this very same lot at uni 😭😭 love ur vids simsie!
I have NEVER in my life agreed with anything more than this
Omg one thing that annoys me about University is that I decorated their dorm rooms but everytime they would leave campus some furniture would ALWAYS disappear and it was always the same ones (computer chairs and computers). Like why? It said I would have them in my inventory but they were never there and it would keep adding up to like 60 something chairs and 60 something computers.
Ive watch Kayla for hours every day for like a year.(RUclips and twitch)
i just started watching your videos a week ago and lemme just say your such a good sim creator!! i love your videos sm
What pushes me away from playing university is how empty the campus is!!! Like even events have so little sims it breaks my immersion
Kayak at this point they should just hire you to fix their builds lol
This build is going to go great for my Decades challenge household. I plan on following my sims to college at some point. Maybe the 60s or 80s
A basement with a pong table and some couches and clutter items downstairs would be so cute
She said: “A tiny kitchenette and some tables.” Three times 😂
university will always have a soft spot for me because it came out while i was in my first year of uni (like literally the day it came out was the same day my first midterm ever happened and i remember staying up until 1am bc that's when packs used to come out for me not to study and actually experience university for myself but to PLAY A FAKE UNIVERSITY EXPERIENCE) but i will readily admit that it is a bad pack objectively
I love the teal room! I would kill to have that as my dorm room
I just have to say, I've just recently found your channel on here and I LOVE your builds! I've been playing the sims since it came out when I was 11 about 23 years ago, and I've never been able to do good builds. Would love to find some of your builds in game to use!!
The moment I saw the two bedrooms I thought - Jim & Jill bedroom/bathroom - cause I'd love to see lilsimsie build that.
I had a dream where the major update was in the discover University, and it was a small beach town college
There was a building on my college campus that looked EXACTLY like that weird student union, except ours was silver! so many of the rooms had weird windows.
this build gave me the most vivid memory of being in university and having to bring my little shower caddy into the shower and wear flip flops
