My best tips: - Create your grocery list/meal plan for the first week after your return BEFORE you leave for your trip so you can just head to the grocery store without needing to meal plan on a jet lagged brain. - Use the time on the plane/journey on the way back to make your to do lists and respond to emails (schedule them to send at a later time). - Take an extra day off after your return to get all your stuff done rather than just head right back to work (if possible). - If I haven’t cleaned before leaving, this is the one time I will splurge on a cleaning service to clean my house the day after my return. Thanks for the fun video and great tips! Finally have a few trips planned this year so need to dust off the ol’ travel skills.
We often go on trips that are several weeks long in the summer. As a mom and wife, I’m always racking my brain on the way home to think of what our first meal home will be-I usually eat from the cupboards and fridge till they’re empty before we leave, but coming home and having no food doesn’t feel so good! So I either schedule an Amazon grocery order to come within a few hours of arriving home, or I leave a freezer meal or box of Mac and cheese and bookmark it in my brain as our first meal back. Just that little thing saves my brain a lot of stress!
I have a pre planned grocery list and several meals from that list. We swing by the store and pick them up on our way home. Rotisserie chicken, a lb of ground beef, good jar of sauce, a box of salad greens, broccoli equals a chicken & salad meal and spaghetti with broccoli. Milk, eggs, cheese, cold cuts, orange juice and good sourdough bread round out my re entry meals. I make sure I have things like spaghetti pasta, mayonnaise, butter on hand. My husband puts those in the fridge while I open our suitcases and start the laundry and then we rest a bit. I finish the unpacking by pulling out our toiletries kits for bedtime- as we use them anything we need to put away gets done. On our final cruise night as I pack up to go home I try to keep the laundry together and away from things that are still clean so I can just hang the clean stuff up right away. - I get the ship laundry to do most of the laundry a couple of days before the end so I mostly pack clean pressed clothes for home.
Something i always do after a holidays is putting all the photos in a harddisk. And “cleaning” my cellphone. It helps me to reflect and close the holidays. Plus i love watching the pictures ❤️
To get back to work. Feeling overwhelmed is natural so I study in small chunks and gradually increase the time of my studying. The important thing is to be compassionate towards myself. I know things will pick up 😊
The habit I really love and been doing is cleaning before I leave and unpack and sort laundry as soon as I'm back. Those are my biggest achievements prior and post travel...makes my life so much easier😍
Hi Ashlynne, I hope you are well. I definitely agree with you about unpacking. My husband and I do that first, then I start the laundry. Yes, I would rather collapse on my bum after travelling, but it really does pay off later. I love (and recommend!) the episode of Everybody Loves Raymond where they take a trip and neither Deborah nor Ray want to unpack the suitcase. It sits on the stairs for about three weeks and just turns into a battle of wills. It's hilarious and I had to chuckle when you mentioned unpacking first! Have a great week! x
I always book for a food delivery from the morning after we get back. If I'm somewhere where I can do some washing while I'm away I'll do that so I don't have as much to wash when we come back. I also have great parents that live round the corner so they always leave milk, bread and anything else we need when we get back.
I typically get back late at night. So, while I will get my laundry ready to go I don't start the washer until the next morning as I live in a condo and have people living below me. However, after I have the laundry ready to go I unpack the purse and wallet that I traveled with and re-pack my everyday wallet and purse. Also, if I'm going to be gone long enough that I'll need groceries when I get home before I leave I'll get the groceries in the grocery store's online shopping cart. Then the day before I come home I go to the grocery store's website, schedule a delivery time for the day after I come home and place the order.
Love Waterdrop!! Been using them for a year, and I agree, they actually make me want to drink more water. Great tips, coming home to a clean house is a must for me. I always make sure to change our bedding the day before we leave so that we're coming home to a clean and fresh bed - nothing better after traveling!
After unpacking I deal with everything I love doing daily in my home (hygge time) such as reading, solving crosswords and puzzles drinking my favourite coffee ☕🤍 and finally watching my favourite series 💗🌷🌈🥰😻
When we travel we have 2 suitcases, one for myself and my husband and one for our 2 girls. I end up putting all the dirty laundry in one of the suitcases for the trip home and all few clean options and toiletries in the other, this way I can put the dirty laundry suitcase directly into the laundry room so it can be washed quickly. It’s makes unpacking way easier because I don’t have to sort what’s clean and what’s dirty.
Fantastic video ! I recently returned from a weekend away and usually first thing I do is unpack and tidy. I'm committed to being tidy so always good to rerurn to a tidy place.
These tips are wonderful! i'm happy to say that i employ these tips whenever i'm home from traveling anywhere & they truly help!! I'm able to decompress and remember what i did on my trip. Thanks for the video Ashlynne!

3-get a bath
Now, I am ready for the second tip.

Oooh I love that idea!! That’s genius 🥰
Unpacking immediately has been a game changer in helping me feel less stressed out after travel!!
Unpacking and laundry immediately is essential if nothing else this!!!!!

I always empty my luggage and wash my clothes when I get back. I have a fear of bed bugs so I immediately do this.
If possible clean your clothes before coming back
