  • The Battle of Texel in 1914 was among the first naval engagements of the First World War. It saw the British Harwich Squadron swiftly respond to German naval activity near the Heligoland Bight. Led by HMS Undaunted, they engaged four German torpedo craft off Texel Island...

That’s because it was a fairly insignificant battle when you look at the war overall. Also, the big gunship battles are far more sexier

Wow - hadn't know of this naval engagement before. Another superb production from House of History! Quite a credit to the Royal Navy. Interesting to note the differences with how the German kriegsmarine employed E-boats during the Second World War.

Excellent video, well described and laid out, thanks.
This situation often happened to Allied escorts, that is, happen upon a far more powerful enemy that is also faster. While cruisers and destroyers have the speed to run if surprised (and heavier capital units can fight their way out), many escorts found themselves faced with adversaries that far outgunned them and higher (sometimes double) their speed.
While these German torpedo boats were only slightly slower, their fate was sealed the moment they were spotted. Nowhere to run, and just have to do what they can, knowing the end is near.
There are countless examples, but one is HMAS Yarra, Lcdr Rankin. A sloop escorting a convoy was intercepted by 3 heavy cruisers and 4 destroyers. They could do 32/34 knots, Yarra 16. What can you do????? Except make as much resistance as you can.
Every sailors worst nightmare, as on the ocean, there is nowhere to hide.

German destroyers were called torpedo boats during WW1 and were pretty much all numbered with a letter preceding the numbers. I think they were painted black too for night actions.

Small comment. You say the Germans are heading southwards; you have them north-bound. Then, they altered to the north-east, At east one altering north-west; the others more or less northwards. You then say attempting evasive manoeuvres. I'll accept the visuals there. A small point. Larger hull numbers are normally read as individual numbers, e.g. One One Nine, vice one hundred and nineteen. Two-numbers as the latter (PT Seventy Three)

at the end an obvious outcome based on the size of the ships where torpedo boats never had a chance.
Would have been nice to see pictures of these ships or similiar boats to get them right - I mean a sizewise comparison.

Sadly this battle is so minor in every aspect.
The british force was so much bigger than the germans and as expected the british destroyed torped boats.
Come on this is a really minor battle in all the battles that happened.
