Johnny Mac's finest hour...and no outbursts. So enjoyable to watch him simply play at such a level without histrionics.
Thanks for the love and support you show me as a loyal fan of mine not withstanding how long have you been a fan of mine ❤
OMG - finally! A video of this match of high enough quality to actually see the brilliance of McEnroe in his finest ever performance. Possibly the greatest display of tennis ever exhibited. When the match was over, Connors said, after Mac had straight setted him with only 2 unforced errors, "the funny thing is, I actually played pretty well."
Thank you!

I remember an interview years later where McEnroe said he felt like everything was in slow motion during the match. Seeing shots before they happened. Anticipating everything correctly. It was a complete annihilation . I’ve never seen a finalist of Connors’ caliber get completely torched like he did that day.
Thanks so much for the love and support shown towards me it’s give me goosebumps and I do want you to email 📧 me

Hard to believe John only had one more major win in him, the US Open after this one.
Thank for sharing! McEnroe's skills on the court is truly impressive 🔥

The trophy presentation took longer than that 1984 Wimbledon Final

I remember this match clearly. An almost flawless performance (only two unforced errors!) on the biggest stage against the toughest opponent.
Pliz tell me who is that lady one giving trophy
The duchess of Kent!
This quality much better than the nbc one
Thank you
The soon to be 32 year old Connors looked tired just walking out to centre court. The semifinal against Lendl the day before obviously took a lot out of him.

Connors 8 anni piu` di Lendl , 7 piu` di Mcnroe , 4 piu` di Borg ...
THE BEST MATCH OF BIG MAC ALL TIME

I had the biggest crush on Mac as a teen (not a very Congolese attitude 😜). I used to cry when he lost. I still can't believe how devastated I would get.

What a difference a year makes. The following year, McEnroe is unable to defend his title. gets bounced in the quarters by the hard-serving South African Kevin Curren, manages to make the US Open final, but this time Lendl exacts his revenge and beats John in straight sets. From there the decline is steady, Agassi and Sampras would move ahead in the US rankings, and John's brand of tennis doesn't work anymore, the power game is passing him by, power would beat finesse.
Remember this match my father came out of prison on the 6th of July this was played two days later 11 years old at the time funny when you watch things the memories it gives you remember the conners lendel semi final that's the day he came out of prison and remember watching that game

McEnroe raised the bar very high that year punishing any form of passive tennis sadly he never found the desire to challenge the new generation after 1984. Some say power was too much for him others claim that vintage McEnroe would or could have won a lot more grand slams personally I think it would have been an amazing spectacle to his best vs Ivan Andre Boris Stefan Jim and Pistol Pete 😢
Or maybe he met Tatum O'Neal and things went downhill from there. Two explosive, hot - tempered people, rumours of drug abuse on both sides and three kids in a very short space of time he was never the same after his sabbatical of '86. He was raised on wooden rackets but seemed to make the adjustment with Dunlop Max200G from '83. Using that racket, he had his best year in'84 then...... he met Tatum.
@@davidmee7239 Yep of course that didn’t help but John had long suffered from a lack of enjoyment on court way before he met Tatum, to me desire is the primary cause of his downfall
@@sebbytennis4298 Borg was Mac's primary loss of enjoyment and focus after Borg literally walked way from the game after his US Open '81 defeat. Borg had felt that after the 18 - 16 Wimbledon '80 fourth set tie - break which Mac won, Borg knew from that point he could be beaten.
But I still believe Tatum, whom he met in '84 at the height of his power, was his downfall. He had already switched from wood to graphite, started working out and I believe would be ready for the new generation of players that were emerging except most of these new power players weren't serve and volley.
@@davidmee7239 then i must respect your belief nice chatting to you David
Connors should have upgraded his racquet. It's the same one he's been using for like 10 years. McEnroe was using a far superior racquet. With that being said, McEnroe would have still won for sure even if Connors was using a more modern racquet.
Dan 'Ooh I say' Maskell greatly missed. Mac's best year. Wonder how many tantrums he had during the whole of '84. He started playing with the Max 200G around this time.
he actually started the 200g in 83. first tournament he used it at was the WCT in dallas
Connors was more than just a step slow

Sadly it was the last singles grandslam tournament that he would win
Connors said that he would have McEnroe serve for him if connors life depended on it
I think he said that if he was playing a doubles match for his life he would choose McEnroe as his partner.
Can someone tell me what is the lady name who gave trophy, l remember her face but don't know her name
Connors with a racket which looks like it was bought at the nearest petrol station (Wilson 2000?)..
😂😂 Connors' trusted Wilson T2000. Not sure if he used that racket throughout his career but he won a record 109 singles titles compared to Federer's 103
That steel frame is no joke. Very heavy.
@@gerrymanrique9395 He liked it obviously, but a handicap. He said he never found a racket he liked afterwards until the prince mono!!
I used it once in high school. I served great with it! I don't know about groundstrokes because my opponent had a hard time just getting my serve back.
@@sanjaygandhi7962 Did your opponent use a moderñ racket or a wooden one?
Finally good q

What a dreadful humiliation for Jimmy Connors.
He did not even make a game of it.
