    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  5 лет назад +4

      Hi Kathryn, thank you for watching. It may or may not. It depends on proximity of the incense stick to the smoke detector, the size of the enclosed space , how much ventilation there is, and whether the smoke from the incense stick is flowing toward or away from the smoke detector. You won't know until you test it out and if needed you can press the test button to hush the alarm if you need to ventilate the smoke from the insense stick.

    Ionizing detectors use an americium alpha particle source to ionize the air path between two metal surfaces. This lowers the electrical resistance of the air path. Smoke particles block many of the alpha particles increasing the resistance of the air path. When the resistance increases sufficiently an electronic circuit detects that and sounds the alarm.

    Where is the correct placement of the smoke/fire detectors on the wall or ceiling ? Should I put a Carbon Monoxide detector near it ?

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  5 лет назад +7

      Hi Will, Thank you for watching. Since smoke rises its best to have the smoke detector high up on the wall or on the ceiling. Avoid any "dead air" spaces like in corners. If you mount an alarm on the ceiling make sure it is in the middle in a location that the air will circulate over top of. Also its not recommended to place a smoke detector near any vents that might remove the smoke and interfere with the detection.
      The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends placement of at least one smoke alarm on every level of the home and one alarm in every bedroom.
      Carbon monoxide, however, mixes with the air, which is why CO detectors should be mounted in or near bedrooms and living areas, on a wall place six inches below the ceiling to six inches above the floor. This is a good resource if you'd like to read more www.kidde.com/home-safety/en/us/support/help-center/browse-articles/articles/what_is_the_best_placement_for_alarms_.aspx

    • @AmreSupply

      This video was a quick view into smoke detectors but you are right, that most ionization detectors use a very small amount of the isotope americium-241. The radiation emitted is a very insignificant amount, and has low penetrating power which is blocked from the plastic housing of the smoke detector.

    I WANT TO KNOW HOW MUCH THEY DETECT? I MEAN THE UNIT OF DETECTING, LIKE UNIT OF VELOCITY OF AIRFLOW 1M/S^2

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  4 года назад +6

      Thanks for watching. The standard way of specifying smoke detector sensitivity is a measurement of Obscuration. Obscuration is the effect that smoke has on reducing light intensity, expressed in percent absorption per unit length. Higher concentrations of smoke result in higher obscuration levels.
      Ionization 2.6-5.0% obs/m (0.8-1.5% obs/ft)
      Photoelectric 0.70-13.0% obs/m (0.2-4.0% obs/ft)
      This means that a ionization smoke detector will be triggered when 1 meter of smoke blocks roughly 2% to 5% of the light that passes through that area. Overall this number is not something that consumers need to know when buying or using smoke detectors.

Many authorities advise photoelectric alarms are "better" but for legal and political reasons are not allowed to warn that there is anything wrong with ionization alarms. However, in 2016 Australia's most senior fire official representing all fire brigades across Australia and New Zealand went public warning that "ionization smoke alarms should be banned".
