If I connect the video card that has DP version 1.4 to the monitor with version 1.2, could the image quality be affected, especially in games like MSFS 2020? Yes, I suspect that it will downscale everything of 1.2, but I wonder if it loses quality at 1080p?
Very informative and underrated. Well done! My question is how come I can play at 250 and 300 FPS Doom Eternal and CSGO via 1.4 using 3090 on 4K odyssey G70A 28" with perfect visual fedality?
Because 1.4a became the standard display port 2.0 won’t the standard for another 5 years if by then it isn’t just ignored and moved on to DP 3.0 by then. There’s a reason Display port 2.0 is being used for just marketing by AMD it doesn’t even exist in the monitor space and by the time it does if it ever does it will be backwards compatible to the DP 1.4a dsc . Basically it’s a nothing burger done worry about it if your gaming on a 4k 240 hz monitor today you are using DP1.4a or hdmi 2.1 … no one even thought about the video out port till AMD got the shit stomped out of them by the 4090 so when they released there next gen cards they spent more time taking about it’s Display port than it’s actual gaming performance hahaha … and if your on RUclips there are thousands of AMD fanboys who repeat the talking points of the marketing as if it’s there own research haha. Same as the 12pin power plug for the new GPUs someone hooked up 1 -8 pin to the 12 pin adapter and then overheated one leg of the pin and took pictures to put on Reddit to claim it’s a fire hazard haha this is just there way of trying to slow down people buying Nvidia cards but it isn’t working people aren’t that stupid and if they are they can’t afford a high end GPU anyway haha no shit according to Newegg and Amazon AMD sells 1 gpu to Nvidias 50 GPUs and the main 2 AMD GPU sold are the 6600/6600xt not there high end cards . Only in RUclips self proclaimed tech experts channels who are basically AMD marketing departments at this point haha you see this over the top love for a publicly traded company. You would think that AMD was a charity the way people on RUclips root for them as if the company who always has had inferior products that used to be priced accordingly was more than the budget option. Nope they are still the budget option except in CPUs they are more expensive and basically at parity with Intel and that’s arguable Intel isn’t behind them that is for sure .
As of Thursday 11/3/2022 AMD has released the new Radeon 7800 XTX and it does support Display Port 2.1, 12 bit Color range and can do 4K at 480 Hz refresh rate !! Now we need a new PC gaming monitor that can match these new specs.

copy and paste DisplayPort 2.1 is a new technology and was effectively only launched at the end of 2022 with the debut of AMD's RX 7900 XT and 7900 XTX graphics cards. At the time of writing, they are the only DisplayPort 2.1 source devices available so if you want to use DisplayPort 2.1 in early 2023, they are your only option.
It won’t matter unless your monitor supports it..you REALLY have to check the monitor specs and sometimes that doesn’t even help. I have an LG Ultragear nano IPS 1440p 165Hz overclockable to 180Hz and when I’m on the regular 165Hz I still don’t utilize all 32Gb, unless I turn on 10-bit color but i play games like cod where I’d rather be at an 8 bit. But as soon as i out my monitor into overclocked mode it just stays right at 32Gb/s it’s weird how these cords work. Also your GPU or iGPU has to support it too. I don’t think my 1660Ti supported 1.4 but my 2080Ti does.
No, it’s a digital signal, and the signal should arrive at the same time as any other cable, including HDMI. When people say “faster” they are referring to how much information the signal is able to carry, not how fast the signal arrives from one device to the other. Input lag largely depends on the processors within a device, and the type of monitor that the signal is being output to like a projector vs a TV, they both have different ways of outputting a signal which do cause measurable differences in latency (input lag).

@jackthegamer nah it really doesn’t matter, i would personally get the 1.2 as i had the same problem with my last monitor, now my new monitor came with a Dp 1.4 and it’s always best to stick with the cables that come with your monitor but you won’t gain anything by paying more for the 1.4
I have a 1440p 165Hz monitor that overclocks to 180Hz and when i have it on the 165Hz mode it doesn’t use 1.4 speeds, only when i have it set to 180Hz but yes even 1.2 can handle 1080p at 165 I believe
