  • One of the best short walks in Kent for a spot of photography, in my opinion, is along the Royal Military Canal from Hythe. If you head west about 3 km, you come to a wonderful place to stop for a local ale and food, called Unit 1. From there, you can keep walking, or loop back to Hythe. A wonderful way to spend a few hours, so grab your camera!

A wonderful short walk in Hythe. I need to explore more in that area. Have you walked along the Royal Military Canal?

What a cracking way to end a canal jaunt - beer and pizzas with friends. Nice little ‘Unit 1’ promotion section - free beers next time hopefully!

Gosh that looks wide for a canal - we are sued to rather narrow ones locally. As ever a lovely ambience about your videos Si. I'll be honest I don't think I have ewver been to Kent - not that I can think of anyway? Furthest east I reckon is Brighton - to play chess in 1997 . The scenery of the canal and the trees hanging over them around 4:30 - don't know if you have attached a lut to the editing but it had a real feel of constable about it? Wow, the musical interlude - where did that come from.. cracking track - right up my street. More interesting said your mate..lol. Well, have to say both the beer & the pizzas looked good enough to drink eat. Atb Al PS My lad is in Toronto right now - just delievered a campervan from Vancouver - took a week to travel across country. He's just picked up another and heading to Montreal then back to the UK. PPS Didn't have you down as a soul boy 😊

Thanks for the great comment Al, as always. The canal is wide as it was built as a defence rather than a place to carry goods. It's built with little zig-zig sections every few hundred feet so they could place guns to shoot down the canal if the French tried to cross it. I should have said that in the video! Tell your son to drop by for a beer, I'm on his way to Montreal once he leaves Toronto! That music track I just love, it makes me laugh using it the way I do, and intend to in future videos. No reason for you to venture this far east, really, with all the amazing coastline much nearer to you, you'll be disappointed, lol. Unless I'm there and you stop by, of course. 😊 ATB.

Lovely walk along the Canal Simon, I’ve been there a number of times as my wife’s family are quite local to the area. I must admit the beer and pizza looked fantastic. Maybe I’ll plan a trip there myself in the not to distant !!
    Best Wishes
    Tim 😊👍

Nice video Simon, I have walked that a few times starting from Sandgate to Hythe and back, we had a very nice put stop in a Turkish restaurant in Hythe.

@@PaulNewberyPhotography I know that Turkish restaurant well 🙂 The canal walk from Hythe to Sandgate I've done many times too. I'd recommend exploring further west though Paul, the scenery gets so much better, I can't wait to explore more myself. Cheers!

It’s a great place, the footpath that you flagged up is a great walk but keep to the markers as there are some quite boggy areas of land that are quite dangerous.

That looked like a lot of fun. Maybe next time, take the chap's advice and walk a bit further? Ah, but the pizza and ale... never mind.
