  • www.crosstrainingenduro.com tractionerag.com How to fix two stroke pipe dents. As usual you are crazy to use any info we present so it's all your fault if it goes to shit with this two stroke pipe repair lol. If you’ve ever ridden a two-stroke in the bush, chances are you’ve dented, damaged or completely destroyed the bike’s expansion chamber. Check to see if the dent has affected performance negatively before your two stroke pipe repair. Often there's no change with two stroke pipe dents.

Some dents can actually increase performance! Motocross Action Mag put a five cm wide and one cm deep dent in a pipe 25cm from the manifold. It’s a vulnerable component on every two-stroke dirt bike, and even reasonably small dents will significantly affect power. Get advice on whether your pipe can be blown back into shape before your two stroke pipe repair, which is a far cheaper option than a replacement pipe. That’s exactly what we did with two of our 2018 KTM and Husqvarna test bikes after they came off second best on a recent ride. Basic protection is a carbon fibre pipe guard. These work well to prevent damage from small to medium hits. There are plenty of brands out there. If you live in the USA, I found the P3 guard worked great on my old RR300, you can see it got a thorough bashing in my incapable hands and the pipe stayed in great shape. Not all dents need hammering, apparently some will come out purely with air pressure and heating for two stroke pipe dents. But Chuck is such an aggressive rider he has put some sharp angles in and gentle hammering will encourage the pipe to come back to its normal shape. Getting bored? Let's go and check out Chuck's house. See the technique required to ‘blow’ a two-stroke pipe back into shape - a fix that costs around $100 in labour. Finally, how can we prevent damaging our pipes? The best solution is become a better rider. Almost none of pro level riders use any pipe protection in the extreme enduros. But we are muppets aren't we? As the video reveals, the combination of custom-made clamps, air pressure, heat, and years of pipe-blowing expertise will miraculously restore your pipe’s original shape and performance in a matter of minutes. Chuck will show us the most effective method you can do with easily sourced parts. But here are some options from the cheapest and easiest, to the most expensive. Oh and before you start, they might be ugly but even big dents may not decrease performance. You might get even more power! So check before you start fixing it. Pause to read this. Before you heat that dent, make sure all flammable residue is out from the pipe, and as much of the carbon as possible. If that pipe explodes and takes out most of the neighbourhood then your dead carcass could wind up on a terrorist suspects list with two stroke pipe dents. So, short of tip-toeing through the bush, how can you avoid the expense of a replacement pipe, which retails for around a hefty $350 (and often more). Music: www.purple-planet.com

As Chuck says in the video, this is only one way to fix dinged pipes. The hydro method is also increasingly popular, and probably safer. ruclips.net/video/F7o-MSOES1M/видео.html

Love this channel, love the videos. And I also hate it - because of this channel and you, Barry, I have now bought myself an enduro bike, I now throw myself around in the woods every weekend and get bruises, I now pour my hard earned money into the petrol tank of the bike. And I now can't wait to do it again every weekend. I have a bunch of friends who do the same. Cheers, mate!

I bent two pipes with carbon guards, used a hydra force blow out kit (fancy version of power washer method) to take dents out and it also straightened the pipes back to very near factory shape. Had to use a bar on one of them but now they both fit properly

Unbolt your pipe, dig a large hole in the backyard, place the pipe in the hole and carefully backfill with dirt removing any air gaps. Mark the spot with an old stick, or draw a map where you buried it. Leave pipe there over winter and forget about it. In springtime, dig it up, clean it up a bit and stick it back on the bike. It'll still be dented, but you'll feel a lot better about it. PLus you will have avoided riding in cold, wet and muddy conditions for about 3 months, bonus.

I stopped using carbon pipe guards for a couple reasons 1 it's easier to fix a dent than a kink in the pipe and 2 they are expensive, I can get a brand new pipe for only $60 more than a pipe guard alone.

@@archiehurley1094 I used to work parts in a KTM dealership, oem 2 stroke pipes can be upwards of $500, and the KTM powerparts ones are around $350. But if you go with the same fmf pipe but from a typical supplier (wps, tucker rocky, parts unlimited, or direct from mfg) it costs around $250 and the only difference is it doesn't say "KTM powered by FMF" on it.

"Can this method fix the dents in my head?" Yes, but you need more air pressure. 1st, you need to scoop out that useless gray stuff that dirt bikers don't use anyway...it's like first cleaning the carbon out of your pipe.

I leave gauge connected to the valve so I can monitor for dangerous pressure rising while heating. Also I first preheat pipe then add pressure. I cover ends with some heavy rugs to slow down any flying parts or bolts. All in all this method works like charm for big dents with large area. Not so easy for small ones, maybe I need to get more powerful torch.

This isn't limited to Barry at all, this is said quite a lot. "None of the professionals do this, or Professionals rebuild after every so many hours, etc..." Barry addressed this immediately after but really, it's apples to oranges of what professionals do and what we do if only because we don't have a paid mechanic throwing on parts that we don't pay for.

Last protection is good but if terrain is muddy, is adding 10 kg to your bike pretty fast and need to stop often to get rid of the mud pilled up behind. I'm using one self made from aluminum - 10 mm bars netted together that helps with mud and is very light.

Yes I have repaired a numberl of them over the years, repairing pipes were a weekly thing in the daze when nearly every bike had a low pipe.
with the help of sewer plugs and a few other misc. things from the Hardware store. creating a back up system that catches the plug if it blows is a good idea too, you really don't want them flying across the yard, Oh yes, do this out side!! I alway begin by burning out the pipe first. Mapps gas is ok but I welding torch works better. be careful not to over heat the pipe, adding more air is not recommended.

Bottle-jack pump is better then pressure washer because it provides more control, you can pump it slowly and see if all works fine. But any high pressure pump should work
