Ukraine troops blast Russian invaders with new US howitzers

- This is the moment Ukrainian troops shell Russian targets with brand new M777 howitzers donated by the US with the message “From America with Love”.
General Valerii Fedorovych Zaluzhnyi, 48, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine since July 2021, said on 13th May: “During a telephone conversation this night, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark A. MILLEY, asked me what the victory means to us.
“Actually, this is an important issue. For me, victory is the destruction of the enemy who is on our soil and the liberation of all the territories seized by them.
“I have informed General Milley about the operational environment. It remains difficult, but our mood is combative and we are focused only on victory.
“I also emphasised the enemy's continued use of strategic cruise missiles. On a daily basis, the enemy fires 10 to 14 cruise missiles at civilian infrastructure facilities.
“Recently, Russia has resorted to the tactics of massive use of supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles of the Kh-22 type on these facilities. Thus, last day at the Kremenchuk oil refinery, the enemy used 12 cruise missiles, two of which we managed to shoot down with Stinger MANPADS.
“One of the reasons for the enemy's transition to this tactic is the refusal to use aviation, which suffers vast losses.
“The telephone conversation with General MILLEY is yet another opportunity to express gratitude to the People and Government of the United States for the assistance provided, as well as an opportunity to assure that we keep strict records and control over the use of the provided materials.”
The Ukrainian General added: “We are ready to share all the materials with the US Embassy as soon as it returns to Ukraine.”
In an update late the same day, General Zaluzhnyi shared images of the American weapons in action with the message: “Special greetings and thanks from our artillerymen to the American people for the M777 howitzer.
“My guys know the price of artillery. First of all, they wanted to convey that this is a high-precision and very effective weapon.”
He added: “Together to Victory!”
Russian troops invaded Ukraine on 24th February in what the Kremlin is still calling a "special military operation". Today marks the 82nd day of the campaign.

From what I understand these outrange Russian artillery by 10-15 km, also putting them outside range of several counterartillery measures.
Most counterbattery is the job of rocket artillery and air, plus nowadays - loitering munitions.
The 777 can be relocated pretty quickly though, provided the crew is well trained. It's not, like, a doomsday weapon, but as far as towed guns go, one can't do much better.
Watch out for the loitering russian drones. GPS guided missles will be on the way. They need anti-drone drones to provide overhead security.

If Ukraine is half as smart as it seems to be they wont cross their own borders & create more/new conflict, it would make much more sense to end the war and join NATO.

The self propelled howitzers? Ukrainian soldiers are right now in Germany at artillery school to learn to handle the PZH 2000. When they return to Ukraine they will take the howitzers with them.

@@AbuChanOfficial I think when you look at drone footage on here with vehicles parked within areas where there are buildings and then you see a vehicle hit WITHOUT any apparent damage to surrounding buildings, then you get to realise the accuracy. It's not just the equipment but the training of the individuals using the equipment. Its a far cry from Russian troops who really want to destroy EVERY building and EVERY moving vehicle AND the people in them.

Ukraine had a lot of it's own cannons fool. But they were destroyed by Russian air force. These ones will be destroyed as well.
If those are the GPS-guided 155mm smart shells from the U.S. or other NATO country, those are precision hits. They are nothing like the old 'aim and pray' shells. The russians are in big trouble. The GPS-guided shells do not miss. They were developed to ensure no civilian casualties - to only hit a precisely-located target, like a tank, or a bunker, and leave any nearby civilians unharmed. Really too bad it has come to this. It is a real setback for humanity imo that at this point in history, measures such as these are still required.

A thing I recently realised is that Russia isn't really a single country. It's an empire in disguise. That's why it's full of different areas with unique ethnicities and languages (what would be countries in Europe), but they're all treated as second class citizens in comparison to the ethnic Russians that are in charge.

Those howitzer's France gave them look more impressive. They are mounted on a huge vehicle designed for it. Fire 10 rounds with it and relocate a mile down the road. Where did they go? There they are, incoming...boom...boom BOOM

Russia gins have s range of 40km. Far more than this gun. But even if it was placed 1000km from the border line a cruise missile will destroy it. Its just another gun that will end up in the junk yard.

Russians also destroyed over 3200 Artilery pcs that Ukraine had, so doubt 78 US artilery pcs will help as Russians have few thouand artilery on terrain, planes, helicopters, drones and cruise missals and Rocket lounchers.
90 pieces is only a small amount. Over 1000 pieces of artillery have been destroyed on both sides since the start.
While Ukraine is focusing on stopping the assault on the Izium area with its best units and equipment, on the East and South East, Russians are making small advances.
Ukraine needs far more than what has been provided to really push back the Russians and DPR/LPR/KPR troops. Yes, another taboo in the West is that the people on occupied/liberated areas accept to die for Russia. It's as much a civil war as an invasion. Getting the territory back will be hard.

Also other countries are giving more advanced Artillery that out ranges Russian equipment.
And take Russian claims with a heavy dose of salt since Russia gives cash bonuses to their soldiers when they claim to destroy something.

It's because Ukraine no longer need to tie up the 12,000 Russian soldiers there because they are in desperate need of more cannon fodder now they have the extra artillery pieces. This whole thing is about to get busted wide open. Superior intelligence, advisors, weaponry, logistics and most of all, motivation.
The M777 is truly a game changer in this battle, as it's transitioning from guerilla urban warfare to more conventional field battles.
First off is its range. It can out reach Russian artillery by a long stretch (more or less, double), making them able to strike their batteries _and_ hit the supply lines behind. This will force the Russians to push their already pi## poor logistics further back from where they are needed, and make them more isolated and vulnerable.
Second is its accuracy. We're not talking about just hurling cannonballs here. It fires conventional ordnance and self propelled shells that, when launched, are guided by ground laser spotters and satellite surveillance, and its own GPS, to become a kind of mini cruise missile. This thing doesn't just hit a specific building, you can choose which window you want the shell to land through.
And crucially, it's light. The problem with artillery batteries is it's kind of hard to be stealthy when you make a lot of noise and create a lot of smoke, and you can be tracked by simply reversing the ballistic trajectory. Once you fire, you become a target. Now, a lot of Russian heavy artillery requires heavy machinery to move it from one position to the next, but the M777 is so light a good size pickup truck can pull it. And they can be moved across country, so they're not restricted by roads or railways. This gives the Ukrainian artillery incredible battlefield freedom. They can move to position, set up, target, fire, then hook up and move again far faster then the Russians can respond.

Some of those have already been captured by Russians. They are static targets. Ukrainians are dug in. Russians are very mobile.

I agree with your assessment. You might have made a typo. I believe it was actually 140,000 Howitzer 155 mm shells and the US is in the process of sending more M777s than the original 90. Other NATO nations are contributing more as well.

This is not a war, but a special military operation. If this was a real war of Russia against Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, the war would have ended with Russia's victory long ago. In the first hours of a real war, the Ministry of Defense, the SBU and other law enforcement agencies in Kiev and other major cities would have been destroyed. All power plants, all major bridges, all civil airfields, railways, mobile communication stations and so on would be destroyed.
