I really doubt they would have done anything blatant like this before, after all it was so obvious to see Bancroft having a go at the ball and I think if they or any other team had done it beforehand it would be noticed immediately.

oliver don't get me wrong I agree the manner in which this was done it was blatant, but if this wasn't caught We wouldn't be having this discussion. It would have gone unnoticed and only known to participants. As blatant as it was am sure they didn't do it to get media attention. Wrong is wrong. It still won't make questioning their actions in the past less legit. Not judging am just saying. Even other teams who may have escaped will be discouraged by these bn made example. Idc which team there are always cheats among honest players. So I won't judge the entire team on the basis of this incident.

Some of us Americans love cricket, and cricket culture... but it is a very difficult game to understand if you didn’t grow up with it, play it (informally) on a playground, watch others playing it, while participating in the commentary about it...
American baseball-while wildly popular in Japan and parts (but not all) of the Caribbean, as well as parts of the Pacific where the US had or still maintains a military presence-seems to have never ‘caught on’ in much of the rest of the English-speaking world, which is surprising because its rules and sensibilities developed out of cricket. Many British friends have told me of being ‘bored out of their gourds’ watching it on TV while on holiday in the US, or even living here for years. Why is this, I wonder? My best guess is that-much like cricket, which is an all-day social with a lot of banter, with moments of great excitement-baseball is mostly ‘down time’ without significant tension, but boy oh boy, when it gets going and the bases are loaded (just to mention one circumstance), it can be edge-of-your-seat riveting.
But honestly, if you don’t know the rules of American baseball or haven’t played it, you are gormlessly ignorant of so many interesting tensions, inning to inning, that it really just looks like people standing around. And with a lot of people eating hot dogs and drinking beer and chanting jibberish, sometimes with numbers in it, baseball can bore you off the planet. Or so my English friends tell me.
So, inversely, that’s what cricket looks like to us. Or to most of us. (I’ve still to attend an actual Test, but I lived in England for 3+ years w/ many later visits.)
These Australians, my heart goes at them. There’s nothing like a confession to clear the air, their contrition is real. God love ‘em... and so do I.

It happened with Dennis Lillee and Javed Miandad in 1981. It happened with McGrath and Sarwan in 2003. Mitchell Johnson got stuck into Scott Styris rather viciously in 2010. Then there was the ugly Harbhajan and Symonds row in 2008 and Steve Smith’s famous “Brain Fade” moment in 2017. David Warner has had the infamous verbal war with Rohit Sharma in the 2015 tri-series, and also had an incident with South African keeper Thami Tsolekile in an A Test in 2013.

Was it the current side or the previous one. He definitely couldn't have done it at the spur of the moment. And we don't know how how many years and how many series this has been going on. The world cups they won. It questions everything. Yes they are definitely the best team. But even the best resorts to win at all cost. Makes us wonder whether was it cheating. As an Indian cricket fan, Looking back at this in 2021 , after everything is said and done, nothing but MASSIVE RESPECT for Cricket Australia, Australians, Warner and Smith.
It would have been very easy for Cricket Australia to paper over these issues, hand soft bans to players and move on (BCCI would have done that), but they didn't. Australia as a nation was outraged, they held their players to a very high standard and handed severe punishments, much more than they deserved.
Yes, all this happened because they got caught, but, who here haven't made mistakes? They paid their dues and came back stronger than ever. Great story.
Australia has a great cricket culture and as much as I hate to see them win and perform this well, I genuinely appreciate their contribution as a cricket playing nation. Cheers!!

Smith, Warner and Bancroft have all given their apologies and acknowledged that what they did was wrong, so I think we should put this behind ourselves and move on.

    • @emilchandran546
      @emilchandran546 6 лет назад +1

Mishra Man thank you. There is a thirst for blood, especially in Australia. The coach is gone and now people want the chairman of CA to resign. At what point do we say, “They cheated, they’ve been punished. Let’s not do this ever again. Move on.”
We can argue until the cows come home about whether they’ve cheated before or whether more players knew. We will probably never know.
I don’t think it’s fair to say they’ve been at it for years based on one instance. Other players have been caught cheating, does this apply to them? Look they might’ve been doing it for years, I can’t prove they weren’t, nobody else can prove they were. We just have to accept the official version of events I guess.
I want this saga to end so I can go back to enjoying cricket again.

The Aussies are known for being bad sportsmen with all the sledging that they do. You can understand rogue players but captains of all teams should act with honour and play within the spirit of the game. I'm sure the coach knew about it too. It's a huge disgrace. I hope SA win the series.

Upful Soul. Faf Du Plessis has been done for tampering twice, yet he bacame and is still the SA captain. So before you ascend yourself to the moral highground based on nationality, be mindful that the Australian cricket board are the only ones thus far who have applied their own, more severe punishments for ball tampering. Meanwhile it appears that other nations cricket boards have done nothing or in the case of the BCCI, have strong armed their way to lighter penalties as in the case of Sachin Tendulkar's ball tampering incident.

This was all David Warner's fault. Australia was aggressive enough already, but when Warner got the vice-captaincy he came in with the attitude that the opposing team was the "enemy" and that it was Australia's job to "destroy" them. It led to a 'win-at-all-costs' mentality. Remember, this is the same man who punched Joe Root in the face in a bar in Birmingham over some minor or imagined slight. For David Warner a test match = a testosterone match. He needed taking down a peg or two, but this was ridiculous.

Krismelo Porthony Only because it's extremely popular in countries with huge populations (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh). However, other than about ten countries at most no one really cares about it. The same can be said about field hockey or table tennis which is very popular in China. I'm not saying that it doesn't count as being popular because most people associated with the sport are from specific countries but I believe that the diversity of interest should also be taken into consideration to determine the popularity of a sport.

Kostas You are literally watching a video about match between Australia and south africa with one brown person combined between both teams "Hashim Amla". And this is the biggest cricket match going on right now, next is England and New Zeland, again with one brown guy between both teams, "Moeen Ali"

Just Raphael I am aware of that and I know that cricket is very popular in these countries. I was referring to what the op said about cricket being the second most popular sport in the world. I know that it is a very popular sport but I think it's unfair to consider it to be the second most popular sport in the world based solely on the number of people who play or watch it. For example, basketball is much more geographically and culturally wide spread than cricket.

What makes me sick is the disgraced former Australian cricket captain steve smith is still allowed to play, how small are peoples memories... his apology meant absolutely nothing, there’s only one place for him, on the lounge sitting with the shame he brought to this game, I will never barrack for them again

A lot of people do bad things behave badly. Australia is the only nation feels pride in such behaviour. The Aussie way.

If cricket had any decency left, all involved would and should have been banned from all levels of cricket ever again.

Bancroft, Warner and Smith have got off very lightly compared to the very unfortunate 17 yrs old at the time Mohammed Amir, who was conned by his captain and other older players into bowling No Balls. Amir got 5 yr ban and jailed.
Everyone was happy to see Mohammed Amir play brilliant cricket for Pakistan in the Champions Trophy Final and win against India.
One of the great comebacks in any sport. Period.

Fixing is a lot worse than ball tampering. Both Amir and Smith got the punishments they deserve. Great to see Amir back in action as a much better bowler.
