Hahaha for sure
After careful consideration, I have decided I will take them all.
Wise decision.
@lajollascott, howz it brudah 🤙 I'm in O.B. Sunset Cliffs. Born & raised. If you've got a gig coming up I'd be stoked to go. Or we can swap records. I've been playing/touring since 91-09. How awesome is DCP compared to our local shops or guitar center in la Mesa. I don't know if you know or remember we used to have M.M.E. Drum shop in Del Mar. Frank owned and operated it that was the only custom drum shop that we had without having to drive to LA. Anyway if you do live in la Jolla that be sick if we can hook up and check each other's gigs out. Later brother 🥁🤘
@driveline1 If you're local post your next gig. L8R SK8R 🥁🤘🌊
Those 602s are delightful.
I have a pair of 14" 602's, medium top, heavy bottom, 70's era, blue printed Logo that I will never let go of! They are bright and velvety and they sound amazing on recordings. I just lucked out on these on eBay 12 years ago! They're amazing!
Not only are they the most inexpensive of the three, but I liked the 2002 set over the rest. Thanks for vids like these so we can get a better understanding of what sound we're buying!
Yup, my favourites, too. They just sound so "serious" - "Here's your 100% hihat, play it!".
The 2002s are my favorites too.
I happen to own a pair of 2002s 15 inch sound edge hats And I must say that it was one of the best investments that I have made as a drummer, but those 602‘s sound mighty sweet to my ears. The Giant beats sound amazing as well. Paiste rocks!
your sound comparison videos are absolutely the best hands down
Wow, thanks so much Brad!!
Beautiful cymbals.... I’m proud to be part of the Paiste family..... but that snare!!!!!
A&F bruh!
Yes, that snare!
Bee-yoo-tee-ful, isn't it!
I bought 14” Rude Sound Edge From DCP. They are more versatile than you would think. They do loud, funk, quick barks and record phenomenally. Dynamic to your touch. My best friend.
You guys are putting out some fantastic videos. Thank you for that! The 2002’s and the 602’s were my favorites here. Hard to decide!
Killer snare !! The best hats are hands down the 2002's. The other two are too brittle and the 2002s are more mid sounding. Absolutely perfect. Great video. Thanks for posting.
Cool! You’ve done it again guys. Thanks for making the best comparison videos on youtube. I didn’t even know there were giant beat sound edge hi-hats available! They’re my absolute fav. Rock on! 🤘🥁🔥
Thanks Claes!!
Just ordered a big set of paiste 2002s. Got the 15" hats, 17" 18" 19" and 20" crashes, and the 24" ride!!! Gotta admit though I think the giant beat 15" high hats sound the best.
Got mine last night and am loving them! Now we just need the 15" rude sound edge... to complete the family....and sound like Tommy Lee... with that Shout at the Devil sound!
I mite be buying a set of 15" rude sound edge from a friend of a friend for that VERY SAME REASON ...TOMMY LEE SHOUT SOUND!!!🤔😉🤘
I have a pair of 15" Black Label 1975 2002 sound edge hats and a 1995ish pair of Red label 2002 15"sound edge hats. The red label are heavier and louder. I record with the 70's hats and perform with the red label ones. Love them both so much.
I have been playing 15” 2002 soundedge hats for decades. Best sounding hats on the planet IMO.
Agreed!
fl00d right on brother!!
Awesome way to show the comparison by lining up the sounds in a straight line in hearing them right next to each other very great compilation thank you
I’ll take 2 of each!!! 🤯 They all sounded great!! Another excellent video!! DCP has set a standard for video online sales of drum equipment!! 👏🏽👏🏽👊🏽🤟🏽
Love the Shootout videos, keep them coming!
I have a regular pair of Giant Beats. The Sound Edge version sounds really sweet, but I'm really loving the the sound of those 602s. Most likely my next purchase.
I have a pair of 2002's and absolutely love them! But those GIANT BEATS!!!! There maybe 1 less pair today.....
I always said and wondered why Paiste never did a giant beat sound edge.. Now you guys have gone and custom ordered my idea ! 😂Awesome comparison video as usual !
I really hope that if the sound edge giant beats go out of stock before I can get a pair that Paiste reintroduces them as a regular set cause those sounded so good
Great demo. I only wish that the Giant Beat and the 602 were flipped in this demo. The 602s are so different than the 2002 and the Giant beats, that they get in the way of checking out the back to back tonal differences between the 2002 and Giant Beats.
2002 but I will take them all
Those 602s sound incredible.
I - 2002
II - Giant Beat
III - Formula 602
2002's for the win. Thanks to Stewart Copeland for getting me turned on to Paiste cymbals! So many great lines, so many freaking awesome cymbals.
Overall the 2002's. But the C&C snare drum was the star of the video without even trying to be.
Dan Calabrese looks like an A&F snare drum
@@drJacoby90 You might be right. I was just going by the description where they mention C&C. There's no reference to A&F but on closer inspection that is what it looks like. Either way it's a great sounding snare.
I’m a minute and ten seconds into this video and I can already tell the person doing this review is incredibly good at what he does.
❤
Great comparison video. I think all 3 sounded superb, PAISTE has it figured out they are the best in my opinion. I have 2 of the 2002 crashes one 20 inch and one 19 inch and they are unbelievable. I always wondered how drummers got that glass breaking sound when they hit their cymbal, now I know. I have a 24 inch 2002 Big Beat on the way tomorrow. Been looking at high hats and your video really helped thank you so much.
A very unique test.
I got a pair of 2002 in the 80th.
My fovourit one her is the 602.
Greetings from Germany.
I liked the giant beats the most.
The 602s are the ones for me. I much prefer quiet hi-hats, especially for recording. I don't really care for hi-hats that are designed to "cut through" the mix. Darker hi-hats cut through just fine and I find brighter cymbals tend to dominate drum mixes far too much. Same for rides and even crashes to a degree I think.
After listening several times my ears love those 2002's💖💞. The 602 had a nice warm bite and the giant beat have a little bit more of a high pitch bite but the 2002 had everything...nice bite.. nice low end and very crisp kind of like 602 mixed with Giant Beat. I guess there's a reason Bonham, Ian from deep purple and Alex Van Halen have never used any other high hat besides the 2002 sound edge 15.
Actually, Bonham played 15" 602 Sound-Edge Hats from around 1972-1975 (when he used Giant Beats), then he switched to the 2002 Sound-Edges (when he used 2002s).
@@jacobhoward-taylor - Houses Of The Holy was recorded in late 1972, using 2002 series, which were released in 1971. Listen on vinyl though a tube preamp.... there's no mistaking that sound. I don't think he ever switched back to 602's after that. He also was using 2002's at the Madison Square Garden shows that ended up on the Song Remains The Same live album/film.
Loving the little B-Roll behind the scenes shots with the side comments and general conversation that goes on while making these videos!
Makes me wonder, is there a full blooper reel kicking around? Would be fun to watch if so!
It must never see the light of day...
Adam Frost
😂😂
Great playin man!
Love my 2002 Sound Edge hats (although I use 14" instead of 15"). Been playing them for years.
That snare is gorgeous
I used to have Simon Kirke’s 15” 602 SE HH as on the first Bad Company, original black label, beautiful. GBs sound midway between the 602 and 2002 to me.
Love the way you switch between cymbals. Best cymbal comparison ever!!!
Those Giant Beat hats.....muuuuuhhnnnggg
A&F drums Snare is nice.
digging the 602s. Hopefully you guys do another special order of those... I own a 15" rude SE, yes 15" Rude! killer set. Perhaps you guys can do a special order on those... I'd love a back up set. 😁
I think it boils down to what type of music you play. The big beat takes me to the NO and Mardi Gras. The 2002 to a Metallic concert. The 602 reminders me of some mean blues songs...
They all sound great but I will stick with the 2002 series. They work perfect in my studio as well as live. Not a easy thing to find these days that do both. The greatest pair I ever heard are the dark energy.!!! Wow!!!
DE agree!!!
2002s all the way..all great cymbals though..will there ever be PST7 sound-edge hats?
Probably not, just find an orphan SE bottom on ebay
They have pst5 14in sound edge hi hats. The bottom cymbal should pair pretty well with at pst7 top.
great cymbals overall, think i might get the formula 602s since their sound is what I'm looking for.
Been playing 15" 2002 SE for 40 years now. Replace just the top every few years. Maybe I'll get a different style top next time. Thanks for your video's
thanks for watching!
I've been a fan of 15" hi-hats for quite a while so this was interesting! I own a set of the Paiste 2002 Sound Edge as well as a pair of 15" Zildjian A New Beats. While I love the Paiste 2002 and bought them for the sound (I'm a big Alex Van Halen and John Bonham fan) I find that they are SO much brighter and therefore seem much louder to most people because of how they project in higher frequencies than the New Beats. I can only use the 2002's in my loudest gigs or outdoor gigs unless I keep a very light touch. Otherwise my sound guy complains they bleed too much into the snare mic. I have good technique and I don't play my hats hard. So I've decided that I'm selling the 2002s. It seems that the trend seems to be towards darker hats with less bite and projection. Ironically enough, the Formula 602 sound VERY similar to my Zildjian New Beats which is probably no coincidence since both are B20 bronze. I'm thinking of trying something darker, like 15" Zildjian K Sweet Hats to replace my 2002's.
Been playing the 15" 2002 SE for some years now. I see why I hear them on so many rock recordings. They rule!
Yeaaaah! My perfect hats size :). Thanks for vid!
2002 hands down
To me, 2002 blow everything and everyone else out of the water.
José Nicanor Liberos Mascarell nope
I like 2002’s I have 13,14,15.but they simply lack compared to other paiste
Out of these they do sound best tho.
Great demo. 602 is right up my alley
DCP! Who loves ya?!!! Could you list the weights of each the cymbals here (especially the GB)? Thank you!!
Hi, Bonzoleum! I got a GB 15" Sound Edge Bottom just now. Mine is 1240g.
@@mocchiki1745 Thank you, MT. Anyone with a weight on the GB SE TOP?
2002's for me. My first pair of high hats in the 90s - still using today
602's sound great, smooth full tone and plenty of cut. With a bit more articulation from the stick I'm sure those could get the job done for a multitude of styles. I like the 2002's but they seem to lack a bit of depth (could be the mix - listening through H8's) the high end and wash sound fantastic. Giant Beats - you can really hear the B8 characteristics which to my ears sound papery and thin paired with that unpleasant high end frequency that goes right through your ears on lower end cymbal series. Thanks for the comparison would love more cymbal videos from the full mixed live room like this!
I have 14" Rude sound edge and 13" 2002 sound edge. The Rudes are not unruly at all. Drum shop Maine has a killer video and DCP had them in stock. Sold. The 13 2002 are my lower volume hats. the Rudes are my best friend. That good.
Love them all. 2002 for me though.
This Ol' Dude, well I'm still playing my Paiste 17" Steve Jordan hats that I got from Shane soon after he started DCP! And when I need an extra Crash or two, well there they are! I really liked all three sets that you played Adam, and job well done Dude!!! Seems like lots of interest in the snare as well, but no link? Thanks and Blessings!!!
I love the regular giant beat non sound-edge hats... I think they blow every hi-hat out of the water you can use them for anything and they still cut even w/o the edges added. But this was a great shoot out nontheless... each had certain things I liked...those 602s were really smooth and silky! The only thing I wish you would have done was played the fool in the rain intro and then show each one how it sounds while you played that... that is the ultimate demo showcase of a hi-hat...especially these three come on now! Maybe next time... Bonham made all three versions of these famous (I know he didn't have g.b. s.e.), least you can do to pay homage :
I combined a 15'' 2002 bottom cymbal on top with a 15" Rude Sound Edge bottom. Those are the chunkiest yet crispiest sounding hats I have ever played. Nice and solid.
Same here...my 15” Sound Edge top is 2002 and bottom is Signature. If I want more volume then I replace the top with the 16” 2002 over the 15” bottom 👍🏿
These are nice but what about the Paiste Signatures?
The 2002’s are classic
This was a well done comparison video! I like Them all!
Love the head to head comparison very efficient
I'm absolutely a 2oo2 guy, all cymbals in my set are 2oo2. But this comparison was a real surprise; my first is Giant Beat, and the second is Formula 602. Wow.
I love those Giant Beat hats! A nice middle ground between the other two.
i got 2002 15" i love them
GIANT BEAT: versatility.
🖐
I think the 2002 sounded the best but I would buy the Giant Beats because of the rareaty
All have great sound, but the Giant Beat(s) grabs me the most. A bit more solid but still crispy sound,to me.
Giant beat is actually awesome sharp! Very good sound indeed
Giant "beast" beats best
Love the 2002s
After careful consideration, I think that snare drum sounds amazing.
Hahaha!! Noooo! 😉
@@juanjosefernandezibanez981 I'll take the 2002's. But why the noooo? 🥁🤘
I thought you were kidding about the hats. They sound amazing! Hehehe
@@juanjosefernandezibanez981 for the last 15 years of studio work and touring I've been using a pair of 13 in K/Z hats. I got them originally back in I want to say 93. Then they were discontinued up until they start making them again in 2012. The only time I've used a pair of 15 inch hats is when we did the House of blues tour around the country cuz you're using the house kit. And since the House of blues is sponsored by Yamaha and paiste I had a chance to use Stewart Copeland blue Bell ride which was an amazing ride cymbal, and 15 inch hats. So yeah I'm digging on those 2002 sound edge hi-hats.
GIANT BEAT
I just got a giant 15 top for my 2002 SE bottom 😊
I wish Pastie made 14” & 15” inch 2002 Sound Edge Wild Hats!
We needed this....thank you!
Great vid. Thx. All great but the 602’s ❤️
Video guy ended up buying the 602's! I love them.
I've been waiting a long time to find a pair of those 15" Sound Edge Formula 602s! I've been trying to find that Nick Mason hi hat sound for a while!
Paiste 15” 2002 Sound Edge 🤘🏻
I like them all, but I reckon the 2002 is for my ears, however I am here for the 602 and these, well, maybe I’ll change my mind. By the way, I do have a pair of 15 sound edge signature hihats and they are buttery 😀
Damn those 602s are beautiful wow
I wouldnt be able to pick one they all sound incredible
All beautiful but I just love the sound edge, I listen to video without watching the first time and was able to pick out the sound edge.
Hard to decide between the 2002's and the 602's. The Giant Beats, I can leave behind. The winner is the 15" 2002 Sound Edge. I love red, B8 Bronze cymbals, and red-sounding cymbals. Paiste 2002 cymbals have more of a cut, more of an immediacy to them. Beautiful, shiny overtones. The 602's give the 2002's a run for their money, but it's the B8 Bronze that keeps me coming back. Honestly, the best sounding cymbal I have ever owned was an 18" Paiste Medium (basically a crash-ride at the end of the 70's, when I was a very young kid trying to buy my first professional kit with cymbals included). A few other companies come close, but Paiste rule the roost, no question! Give me the 2002's! I will "GLADLY" play them for the rest of my life.
That designer series kit in the background ;)
2002 sound edge for me. Juicy sizzle rings clean instead of pushing static overtones. Blackmetal drummers should be rippin on these to clean up their play.
Awesome! Thanks so much Guys! you always rock!
I like 602!
I liked the 15" RUDES out of the three
2002 ! :) snare sound ! :)
Amazing how good paiste cymbals sound.
Oh god the giant beats oooo yes
602's... great shoot-out, thanks!
This reminds me why i never liked 2oo2 cymbals, at least when I'M playing them. Obviously it's a whole other ball game once you add a full band, their characteristics morph then. But starting with the drummer and what they hear of their kit, being inspired is the main thing.
2oo2 just sounds thinner and clinical when i play them. But as i said i love tons of records made with them. 602's are like the Voxx guitar Amps of the cymbal world... Chime-y, a smidge more mids, a little more controlled (compressed, in guitar amp-speak). And ya, the music-style one makes has a lot to do with it.
Not only do i prefer the sound of 602's but their slightly lower volume, for me, is a plus . Someone wiser than me once said that most drummers generally need to pull back on the cymbal volume. God knows i love to smack 'em : )
I have a 2002 15's with a red logo, an upper plate from 1996 and a lower plate from 1980. My people do it perfectly, light and tone right away, which means it's fast. 602 The formula and gian beet are also great.
602 for me, always my first choice. Would love to see Paiste make a Modern Essentials Soundedge
2002 - best :)
Lol@ LajollaScott. How's the weather down in SD?
Thanks again guys for doing this. The 2002's are a time tested "Hall of Fame" Rock Line. Seems these are a little more balanced than 70's version. Yes, hard to find, but I'm about to order a 3 (15-17-19 crash/ride) yes likem as rides too.
Gotta stick with Agop Xist 14's tho. They really sound a bit better than 2002's. Bit that's "my ear"..
This is great guys! I was considering doing a Paiste - Sabian - Zildjian Sound Edge Hat Comparison myself!
