i want to be a state police officer so bad and that all i want to be in my life i already know my 10 codes and stuff i will love to go to this explorer academy to be a CHP officer but i live in indiana tho but this right here after alaska state trooper is my dream joband indiana and kentucky ad FHP and OSP this is my dream
As a sidenote, I'm currently a firefighter and will hopefully be joining a police department soon. I head up my fire department's explorer program as Captain as well...and I would really like to implement more of a drill field atmosphere. I hope to clear this with the board. Of course there's plenty of concerns dealing with minors, but I see a lot of advantages of being stricter.
The Police Explorer Program is good , im in it but i think we should be able to do some things , like give tickets and have a weapon on us and not be sworn in officers but explorers, i hate the fact that when my parents and people ask me if i have authority i have to say no because , i dont, then they start laphing and saying then y do you waste youre time, you see i dont want to be feared with authority but i want to be taken serious and if there going to put a badge on you at least give us some kind of authority , because when im at a detial i feel like im piontless, because wtf am i doing there if the security gaurd has to brake up a fight or something and i cant do anything and when smeone says can you help theres afight and i say i cant because im an explorer but then they say then what are you doing here , i feel like we should be taken more serious and givin bb guns for defense and should be able to write tickets and walk into the police station and the officers not staring at you like another civilian,,,,,thats how i feel about the program , hope this comment changes the way people look at us explorers because we have to put in work to get were were at and whats the piont if we cant ever use it
Do you have fists? You don't need authority as you're still a citizen, however if you get into a fight( self defense type scenario) you are a citizen therefore you have the right to protect yourself so give em' a good punch to the face, plus your brain is your best weapon, ya I know you've been told that numerous amounts of time but it's the truth. Be smart and you won't even be at a place where the chance of getting into a fight is there. Hope you stay in the program and become a LEO someday soon.
+shitweb The vast majority of Explorers are legal minors that cannot mentally or physically deal with the realities of police work that you seek to enter. And if a situation arises where you need to pull out a BB gun, you're already fucked. Giving minors badges and BB guns is just a horrible idea.
+shitweb I was in the program and the reason is because its too much of a liability. Writing citations is one thing but carrying weapons is a whole different ballgame. Criminals don't care if you have a different color shirt on. If the see a gun they will think cop, which could get you seriously hurt or even dead. Yes it does seem stupid but its all a safety thing. On a 2nd note, security is an occupation therefore they can get qualified for several things to perform their duties. The whole point of the Police Explorer program is to teach you about the job firsthand and let you know if you can handle such pressure. Best of luck to you.

Keep your eyes on the prize. State troopers is the life to be. CHP accepts out of state applications. Be sure to be an explorer. That helps a lot.
