Jay I've been making a very similar comment on all the NHL ESPN Gary Thorne vids but how you worded it is perfect... If your a true hockey fan this music and opening credits for 90s NHL on ESPN will always have a very special place in your heart... The opening credits would get you so fired up to watch the game you felt like you were part of it.. Only Gary was ever able to do that!!
Sports intros are not what they used to be, there is too much flash nowadays and no dramatics like this intro that clearly tells a story and gets you hyped up for the next game to come
i was a HUGE rangers fan in the 90s then the columbus blue jackets came to my town i still have a soft spot for the rangers they were the team that got me watching hockey.
The NHL is finally returning to ESPN with a new 7-year deal that commences in the 2021-22 season. The deal guarantees them exclusive broadcasting rights of 4-Stanley Cup Finals between 2022 and 2028.
It may be back on ESPN, but the NHL is no longer the same league as it was in 94. Starting next season we'll also have stupid ads on jerseys and it will further ruin it for me.
@@jamessollazzo4860 If Lafayette scores and not hit the crossbar. Canucks either Bure or Linden would of ended it and won the Cup for Vancouver. It was an even series.
@@shawnjohnson4391 vancouver should of been swept, you had no business winning game 1 and by the way in game 7, lowe hit the post off a faceoff which would of made it 4-2.

If Wayne Gretzky was on that team and John Vanbiesbrouck was in net, we would’ve shut out the Canucks, 5-0 in game 7 and then Beezer wins the Conn Smythe trophy, instead of Brian Leetch. As great of a goalie as Mike Richter was, he wasn’t a very good puck handler, whereas Beezer was the same exact puck handler as Martin Brodeur, Patrick Roy, Billy Smith, Dominik Hasek, Chris Osgood, Eddie Belfour, Olaf Kolzig, Arturs Irbe, Cam Ward, Henrik Lundqvist, Ryan Miller, Jonathan Quick, Tim Thomas, Tukka Rask, Semyon Varlamov, Robin Lehner, Pekka Rinne, Matt Murray, Roberto Luongo, Ben Bishop, Marc-Andre Fleury, Jordan Binnington, Kirk McLean, Jean-Sebastian Giguere, Miikka Kiprusoff, Evgeni Nabokov, Carey Price, Jaroslav Halak, Dwayne Roloson, Ray Emery, Antti Niemi, Curtis Joseph, Mike Vernon, Kelly Hrudey, Glen Healy, Ken Dryden, Grant Fuhr, Marty Turco, Karri Lehtonen, Johan Hedberg, Chico Resch, Bernie Parent, Bill Ranford, Eddie Giacomin Igor Shesterkin (Shestyorkin), Ilya Sorokin and John Davidson.
From 1976-94, the NHL didn’t have an exclusive national U.S. broadcaster, even for the Cup Finals! In ‘88 and ‘90, the Bruins were in the Cup Finals against Edmonton (lost a combined 8 games to 1), and games were aired in New England on NESN and TV 38 with Fred Cusick and Derek Sanderson announcing.
This series to me is very similar to The Penguins and Sharks series from 2016. The scores of the games were close, but the play was not. The Penguins like The Rangers did in this series to the Canucks, did what they wanted when they wanted against San Jose in that series in 2016. Martin Jones was the only reason the series went 6 games.
R.I.P. Pat Quinn. I know you Canucks fans hate my team and all. However, as a Leafs fan, I was his teams that were the last ones to play with any heart or grit.
It's a damn shame that Pat and the Leafs of the late 90's never got a Cup. The only time that I saw the Leafs resembling something close to a championship team
Get ready folks, its reported ESPN has signed a 7 year deal the NHL beginning with 2021-'22 Season, a shared partnership with another media outlet to be named later (possibly with NBC, CBS or FOX). Perhaps some games will air on ABC again.
Turner (TBS & TNT) is the other partner in the deal. Yes games will on ABC again and ABC will be the exclusive home of both the NBA & Stanley Cup Finals in 2022 and 2024. ABC will also have the Stanley Cup Finals in 2026 and 2028. Turner will have the Stanley Cup Finals in 2023, 2025 and 2027.
Great Intro! Gary Thorne was the NHL. He is and will always be the voice of hockey. Gary was the GOAT.
Between Gary and Doc, it’s hard to decide
Bob Cole is right up there too.
Mike emerick is the greatest
For Americans. For real hockey fans, he sounds like he should be calling a Knicks/Lakers game.
@@christhornycroft3686 you aren't a real hockey fan.
Amazing intro music from ESPN, something you will NEVER forget as a die hard hockey fan. As soon as it starts, I immediately think elite 90s hockey.

I for one, absolutely love those old school Canuck jerseys and am glad they use it as an alternate today.
God I miss the 90’s and this classic intro along with Gary and Bill. Take me back please.
After that Great intro there has to be one for game 7 somewhere
I remember them using "Dreams" by Van Halen for one of the game intros, I think it was Game 7? I had it on VHS waaaayyyy back in the day.
Brad Kinder nailed it
I’m an Islander fan since 95 and I get goose bumps watching this ESPN intro and knowing that the Canucks were ultimately doomed by Messier & Co.
Chilling.
so glad that they are going to air them again
It's the best Stanley cup final ever to me.

My god, what a series this was...
I was 10 then I vivdly remember this cup I like Cliff Ronning he was awesome
LOL I had no idea Bill Clement was that much taller than Gary Thorne!
As long as that 54 year curse was for the rangers, 29 years have passed since this last cup for the rangers in 1994. My does time fly
What the Rangers fans went through are the current Leafs fans, they are now at 56 years with no Cup.
