I think 20:15 is where it goes into Salamanders, having that stipple stage at the very top would keep it *just* in Dark Angels territory, but having them over most the panels brightens it up into Sallys. Doing just the very top then the brighter Warp/Skarsnik edge highlight would have been perfect, not that I'm complaining, absolutely love the purple to warpstone and moot green contrast.
I would say 20:15 is where you turn from Dark Angels to Salamanders. Otherwise great job! :D
Do we have a winner here? That's a lot of agreement!
@@ArtisOpus Thank you very much and everybody who liked my comment. 😀
I never won such a thing. What is to do now?
@@ArtisOpus looks like Kieren winter commented the same time an hour earlier, seems only fair he should win since he said it first?
@@ArtisOpus read my comment first! I have the true answer and you can prove it in your next video!
A Sisters Order of the Bloody Rose (or Blood Angels if you want to stick with Marines) on a Castigator would be cool, love the contrast of red and white, same for an Eldar Saim Hann Wave Serpent/Fire Prism
Bloody rose sounds good, I've seen a few tutorials around but most seem to be contrast paints, would be nice e to see a dry brush tutorial for them
Keep the videos the way they are, I am learning and enjoying them all, so length is not an issue.
Thanks, my dude
I'm going with 18:45 as a good Dark Angels stopping point. Nice and dark with noticeable transition in it still
this!
I liked the length and depth of this video. Great as always.
Thanks, my dude. We will make sure to do one every so often, it's got a good response :)
U a good boy Byron! Great video as always my frend! 🥰🐶
Thanks, my dawg :)
Would love to see a Blood Angels vehicle next, with weathering!
Love your work!!
That's two requests I've noticed, I'm surprised this hasn't been asked for more in the past!
I don’t think it looks too bright or salamanders at all. Perfect paint job the way it is!
Thanks, bud. I do think across an army it would look legit!
Great video, as always! I prefer these longer form videos, showing every step. In fact you could add in some stages showing weathering etc and I'd eat that up. Great work
I think it goes already in the direction of Salamanders at 15:35. There it becomes relatively light green on the top. My personal opinion. Anyway a really good paint job! Thanks for demonstrating the technique!
Don't forget that Nuln Oil is a required step. Any Dark Angels paint scheme without it is just a Salamander.
The timing of this is perfect! I got the new chaos knight box and planned to paint them as House Vextrix which is green and black.
I think Howling Griffons would be a good shout for the next vehicle tutorial. Key points could be on picking a red and yellow that sit nice together; maybe how a single colour could be introduced to each to build highlights for harmony (or different highlight colours to push contrast); working with super straight lines whilst dry brushing and weathering across two key colours etc
Could get cute with a colour wheel. Pie charts on the white board. O, the thrill of it all.
Gonna need to pick me up some big Ds for the redemptor I have my eye on, this tutorial is exactly how I'll be approaching it.
The model looks great but I agree with the comments that 20:15 is were it started to look more like the Salamanders. I have used your techniques and I have to say I really like the effects on my own models. Thank you for sharing this and I subscribed to your channel last week.
Definitely would like to see a white scars tutorial. I'm going to be starting a heresy army for them soon, so that would really helpful!
Interesting, I like white, always a challenge!
I personally like the longer videos when it's a full tutorial like this. Also a blood angels vehicle would be awesome next
Thanks my man! One more tally for the red dudes, they're creeping up!
I love to see vibrant popping colours on models along with a decent weathering I suggest a nice bright but battered pink tank for.. The Emperor's Children.
The length of this video is what I love to see I think showing the whole process in this way is ideal and well worth a watch. Great stuff.
Brilliant as always , think I would have stopped at 19:47 , but what do I know 🤷🏻♀️🤣 I would really love to see an Alpha legion tutorial . I know they aren’t the most popular but I love the colour scheme… please please 🙏🏻
I liked the length - long enough to see what you're doing properly.
1) I'd say adding the lighter green at 24:35 pushed it into Salamander territory.
2) Imperial Fists next?
We could maybe be tempted, the IF are getting a lot of requests for sure!
What I would really love to see would be a nice Drybrush Tutorial for Black Templars! (could be used for several other Fractions as well to build upon) but there are not a lot of other 40k Armies as Iconic and scream moar we are 40k then literally Space Crusaders :) Best I think would also for that be either a Rhino, a Marine or a Land Raider Crusader! or maybe all 3 in one?
Anyways keep up the good work and I cant wait for the next Tutorial, also love the brushes both the Series S and the Series D, I am really happy with them :)
And I must say I think I like the end result colour wise great for DAs as well :)
Thanks, my dude!
Black is definitely worth looking at, it's a real struggle for a lot of peeps.
I think 26.02. Love the vids, love the detail, no real need to alter.
Maybe something a little different but would love to see your dry brush technique on horses!
Hey Byron. great looking panel! I would be happy to field that as DAngels but i would say the view at 26:00 after the first round of stippling the skarsnic/caliban mix is when it tips over into Sallys.
Really enjoyed this. The purple is a god tier step. I’d ask for a chapter but don’t know any of the names but a purple or orange scheme is something I’d love to see. Also acid damage would be awesome (maybe slightly melted with too much glue). Keep up the good work!!
I'd *love* to do an orange tank, bet it'd look amazing, I could really go nuts with the colours.
Perhaps Tau need a re-do, I feel you can get away with anything on them, because anime gunships :D
I think around 24:15 is when it started becoming Salamander-y. When you added the moot and skarsnik it transitioned from that darker forest green of the Dark Angels to looking more lime green. Not that I'd have been able up stop either. Contrast is the best 😁
I’d love to see your take on both of the most common schemes for emperor’s children, the more purple one and the pinky one. With extra points if you manage to make it work in a single model!
:D This is a popular request, you may well get your way!
@@ArtisOpus a drybrushed gradient from deep purple to bright pink would be awesome!
23:12 when you bring out the moot green and proclaims "I'm scared". Really nice vid :)
I would quite like some Deathwatch as the next marines to get a tutorial.
The chapter doesn't get a lot of love from GW, so there aren't a lot of painting tutorials for black vehicles out there, so I'd love to see your take on drybrushing Raven Guard Vehicles!(maybe one of the Storm Speeders?)
Black's worth a visit for sure, people struggle with it in concept, sure we could bash one out!
From what I'm seeing, it looks like the transition from Dark Angels, into Salamanders happens around the 24:35 mark. Prior to this stage, it has a decent, highlighted green that i absolutely adore. It isn't overly bright/lime hued, though, I think there may be slightly too much of the color on the tank, but then the next stages come in and the over all feel of the rhino begins to change from the darker green.
I think I like seeing both formats tbh. Sometimes it’s nice to have all the extra steps but equally a more refined straight to the point video is equally valid depending on what you’re doing, like when you were first trying out the rust.
I think I’d like to see another take on imperial fists next time but with a more virbrant yellow than the last time.
And for the dark angels to salamanders I’ll say around 19:30
IF seems to be creeping into the lead, I can't say I'm unhappy about this at all! :)
@@ArtisOpus look forward to it :)
Imperial fist dry brushed would be nice to see how the yellows don’t get chalky.
I would love to try this, big love for the yellow boys!
Hi Byron fantastic video as always. I’d stop at 21.25 if I was going to use this method for a dark angels vehicle. For the next video I’d love to see a black Templar vehicle 😊. Keep up the great work
20:45 seems like a nice balance of shadows, highlights and vibrancy for a dark angel before it veers into salamander territory :) Looking forward to seeing some Imperial Fists next!
Next Chapter video - Emperor's Children! Really wanting to see the deep purple to a pink contrast, it would be stunning! Can we see a full Predator build demonstrating both the dry brush panel work up to the gold accents of chaos like your: How to paint: How to Paint Stormcast Stormdrake Guard. I love the long form videos!
I think you were done with the highlights here at 22:30 beyond that looks a bit too Salamanders to me.
Wow, people are asking for this a lot! It's close with requests for the black schemes, we'll have to count things up before we make a start :)
At 23.00 minutes I think it enters the salamanders colour range. Awesome job you make it look so easy and effortless.
Thanks, my man
i love the end result for the dark angels
Thanks, my dude :)
I think that the switch between Dark Angels and Salamanders could be at minutes 24.03!!😉 this type of video where you explain all the stuff and theories that you use is just great💪🏻💪🏻 I really like it!!! The next video could be on some big old Chaos Knight…😏🤤 weathering, scratches, dry brushing, decals, freehand.. one video to rule them all😂😂
20:05 when the brush touches what I think is old school snot green. Think I’ll try up to here myself on a rhino for my dark vengeance set and then go for an edge highlight of snot at the upper most points. Should look sharp ;)
I'd love to see Wave Serpent drybrush tutorial. Eldars have less edge, more curve, so it's hard to do a good job drybrushing.
I think Iyanden craftworld colors are hard to do justice.
Plus bright colours are fun! Couldn't agree more, and they are a pleasure to paint.
next chapter i'd be interested to see would be white scars...
Around 14:15 ish your dark Angel model would be done save a fine edge Highlight do define the edges, but come 14:40.. your turning salamander..haha still great tutorial!.
learning a lot from your vids, even bought the big set and a pallet.. so keep it up!.
D.
It looks awesome! i think 15:37 is very Dark Angels but the work done is immense!
I don't know much about 40k but from context 24:35 (the second skarsnik hits the model) is the tipping point.
Imperial Fists for sure. I'm getting read to paint one myself.
Not the first request! This would very possibly get my vote :D
I believe that around the 20:09 mark with the application of the Warp Stone Glow there is a transition towards Salamanders and away from Dark Angels. Both still looks good.
18:45 is where I think it's perfect for Dark Angels. Any lighter and you head in the Sally's dimension. However, I fear every timestamp will have only one like...lol!
Great Video again Byron. I think you should do a grey knights vehicle video. Trying to do large metallic vehicles would be more of a challenge I think
You know I love my metals! I would love to do this 🥰
I would lover to see you tackle an Orky scheme… maybe Evil Suns or some Flash-Gitzy! Bright colors and Dilapidation!
Orks have definitely been neglected! I think they're the most obvious hole in our catalogue. Good suggestion
I think it was around 24:46 it became Salamders. Also I would like to see Word Bearers or Sons of Horus because I have the most difficultly with those colors. Thank you for all you do it’s been a great help.
for me the more information you leave in helps me understand.
Glad this format works for you mate, we will definitely try to do it every few videos.
Comment below with one of these for a chance to win a Brush set Set + Texture palette of your choice!:
1.) What chapter next?
2.) At what timestamp do we stop painting Dark Angels, and get close to Salamanders?
Heresy Death guard tank
30k Dark Angels legion would be cool for the next one, and at about 23:30 is when it should stop before it becomes to salamanders
Soul Drinkers or Red Corsairs
Next chapter I´d either like to see my favorites the Iron Hands or White Scars
Didn´t go really into Salamanders, I think the purple in the beginning made it impossible to go too limey with the moot green
White Scars
Crimson Fists would be an awesome scheme to see you recreate!
24:25 is where I would say it still looked d’angel-esque.
You're so good at this. I dislike my vehicles they look like a kid painted them. The time I copied you I did a lot better, but it looks a little flat because I didn't implement color shift in the paint. I.e. going from Red to an orange for highlights
It's easily done buddy! Any improvement is good, it's *just how much* of the previous step you leave, or not that you perfect with practising the technique, when you get it right it looks insane.
It's still something I don't get right every time :).
Glad you're more happy with your work, keep at it! Let us know in another comment in the future how it's going, or if you have any more questions, YT is really bad for ongoing conversation notifications.
For the next vehicle, if you're sticking with Rhinos I'd love to see a Soul Drinkers vehicle. Not a lot of purple loyalists (loyalist in spirit, anyways) and it would be awesome to see how to paint a high contrast rich purple without it turning in to a lavender.
I think around 4:35 is where you start going more towards salamanders 🤪 I prefer my dark angels in a black colour scheme.
On a serious note though I do think however that the amount of warpstone used on the surface area of the hull probably makes it look more salamander than DA, id have probably just kept the dry brushing to more of the raised surface areas and kept the caliban on the flater surface?
As soon as he starts putting the green on haha 🤣
No request as you just did my favourite chapter. Dark Angels I mean. 😉👍
Yeah boiii! Hope it's useful :)
I would say about 21:50-22:00 when you pushed the lighter (yellow green mix) into the lower areas it started to drift into Salamander territory. Even before you pushed the Moot Green. I think at that point I am going to try adding a lighter gray or yellow brown into the green mix and see how that works for me…
One of my favorite videos has been the metallic style ultramarine and I think it would be cool to see a video similar for the alpha legion. They have such a cool turquoise metallic look that I'd be curious to see how you approach as I do a similar style for my salamanders army. If not that, gotta go for the sons of Horus color scheme.
Metallics AND turquoise?! My favourites
20:16 is where I’d say we starting see the fiery brethren start to take control
I’m going to go with 14:50 on the time. The green really starts to pop out there into the salamander theme.
The time I say 19:21 as the time stamp I been painting dark angels since I got back in the hobby in 2016 and I love a dark armer rather than that neon green but you are right if you go to heavy they just turn into salamanders. As for next paint job how about some ALPHA LEGION
Would love to see something alpha legion just in time for HH!
Turqoise! :D
1) Next chapter I'd say Imperial Fists (I really would love a SW one, but yellow is always great to see)
2) As for the Salamanders stage, for me it's with the green layer at 21.30.
O_o the IF have been asked for quite a lot! I would love to do them :)
20:15 was my transition mark. I would love Black Templars or Sisters order of Our Martyred Lady
20:36 is to me the best balance. I'd like to see Alpha Legion next to prepare for the upcoming heresy box (:
25:34 when you say "ow!" like being struck with a mars-pattern epiphany round :)
HAAA! Got an early morning giggle out of me with this :D
@@ArtisOpus then my personal goal of making someone laugh each day has been achieved ahead of schedule! :)
15:50 to 16:40ish is about right for dark angels, just needs an edge highlight to really finish it off.
As I'm mostly a Blood Bowl troll, I'd like anything sporty, so a BB team would be cool but if you need to stick to 40k to keep the masses engaged how about a quartered scheme like Howling Griffons? I'd love to see how you keep it tidy.
I think 20:23 is where I start seeing Salamanders
A layer of dark angels green contrast and medium would do wonders to unify the colour layers and knock back the brighter, near salamander tones.
This is a very good call. My man. We would retain a fair bit of interest from the stages as is.
20:14 for me but still liked the end result. I've recently finished collecting 10K points of Dark angles and moving onto a few fallen which has lead me to Black Legion as my next major army. I'd love to see your take on one of their chaos Rhinos.
Length wise, nothing wrong with it..happy to be longer but deffo could do with timestamps to jump to particular key points.
I would love a generic Black tank, with 3 heresy legions being black plus the amount of black options in 40k it’d be really useful!
Definitely s popular request, we are going to have to do a count!
Honestly I think that 20:15 was the moment it turned from a Dark Angel’s scheme into a Salamander’s scheme. Dark Angels tend to stay in the colder spectrum with their greens in order to give them that sense of regality and knighthood. It contrasts well with the warmer accent colors and off-white tabards they often have. The colder green also gives the Dark Angels an air of authority and importance. The Salamanders on the other hand have a much warmer green. It contrasts well against their coal black skin and compliments the copper trim of their armor. The bright vibrant green makes the Salamanders seem more approachable and inviting. You can tell at a glance which chapter would shoot you for being in the way and which would jump in front of charging Carnifex to save you.
I´d love to see a blood Angels tank tutorial!
Weirdly this hasn't been requested much... And now I really don't know why, they're so popular!
And red vehicles are really common, and a so useful painting scheme! :)
Maybe I'll keep requesting it till the others wake up!!! ;)
I would say right when you bust out the moot green so around the 24:45 time mark it really jumps up a notch in brightness....either way still looks great 👍
I'd say Imperial Fist tank. The imperial vid you already is great and doing that on a tank would be money....I love the let's paint some yellow...our first colour will be purple haha excuse me what
0.00 It isn't salamanders you JUST HAVEN'T FINISHED YET! As a long time DA painter, using Moot will always take it too far but that's totally fine...the final stage is to take DA contrast and water it down 8 parts contrast medium to 1 DA contrast green...you then lightly glaze the whole model pushing it away from the most extreme edges...this tiny glaze pulls everything back to DA colour scheme...you can always do a second coat so keep the glaze literally like 8 to 10 parts medium so it is clear with a bit if green light murk. Trust me the tank will then look amazing but cover the whole thing including shadows.
I've done a similar thing with my airbrush for crimson fists, using thinned leviadon blue to tone down and smooth out the alaitoc blue highlights that went too far. Good to know it can also be done as a glaze
@@tom-from-discord totally and really easy to control...to the extent that I intentionally take my final highlight too far knowing the glaze will both pull it back and blend the preceding highlights into it..its a hack from Darren Lathams chanel before.
21:40 when you start talking about going brighter towards Salamanders is when you actually cross the line and move to Salamanders from Dark Angels
I would really like to see how you tackle doing Templars on a vehicle. black is not easy to paint if you don't just want edge highlights on flat black. I'd love to see how you tackle doing black vehicles with blue highlights.
Would really like to see Deathwing painting tutorial
Not a chapter, but pre-heresy world eaters would be awesome!
Hello, could we find somewhere the other faces of Rhino?
Even if it's not the same color, just to have an idea on how higlight the other panels.
Thank you for this wonderful tuto.
I would like to see some black templars land raider crusader, as black is always hard to paint for me… BTW thank you for amazing video again.
Black and IF are feeling like we need a count to find the winner!
A Iron Hands/Raven Guard/Black Templars would all be black, as are Sisters of Battle Order of Our Martyred Lady, so a vid on that would probably please a lot of us who have tanks in the backlog who are going to paint black 👍😁
I really like your drybrush work and I've picked up a few tricks already!
I'm starting to get into weathering and battle damage on my models. As far as weathering, I think adding mud would be pretty simple with the dry brush, well unless it was contrasting between dry and wet.... might be difficult... I'll have to think about that one.
What, if there is a good way, would you paint on battle damage with a dry brush?
I would love to see Soul Drinkers purple for the next chapter video.
I agree with the 18:45, its like a fork in the road.
I would love to see Horus heresy era emperor’s children. That purple would be a fun one to do
This is contesting for first place with IF I think!
21:15 is where the bright stages start to appear Salamanders-y. You even mention that if you saturated those steps a little more, one could make it Salamanders.
Commonly held opinion (by the viewers, and me, as noted :)) can't argue!
Something Alpha Legion would be pretty rad!
Any excuse for turquoise!
I think everything after 18:00 goes into Nocturnal paintjobs. I don't think it's just me, but I like my Dark Angels, well... dark!
For a next tutorial, why change chapter? Deathwing bone white is gonna be perfect!
FOR THE LION
I would love to see you do a Tau vehicle or large suit in the vior’la sept colours. I’ve tried your White Scars method but it didn’t look right.
Probably a bit late to the party but what about doing the Minotaurs or Chacharodons for the next chapters? Slightly different than most and have very cool schemes
NP dude! **Googles** :) thanks!
20:15 I think at this point just some lighter edge highlights would have been enough. Saying that the end result is still better than it would have been if I'd done it.
This seems to be a pretty consistently shared opinion! Good note for future reference :)
Any thoughts of doing a raptors vehicle or army? Would love some suggestions on a drab olive colour scheme ❤
you reckon I can adapt this for black templars? I know you were saying to someone else on the BT video that it would not be easy to use that method on a vehicle. if I just paint it black first and then apply the blues closer to the edge using this method, you think that might work?
land raiders are going to be more than likely a must have in tenth, so I need to find a scheme for them.
It started to look like a salamanders rino in the moment you asked the question in the inro: When does it turn to al salamanders Rhino? from ther on erery body focused on exactly that fact. So it was this Moment 0:50
Smarty-pants :D
23 minutes for me is where it goes from a good High contrast Dark Angels to Salamanders
I know you have done Ultramarine blue, but how would you highlight a dark blue, or any dark colour and keep it that dark colour? i wanna paint my Mordian Iron guard tanks with GW Kantor blue, but am struggling to highlight it while still staying a nice dark blue. Love the vids
Just keep it for the very edges, dude, mix a bit of your Kantor in there, just be selective about placement.
Done right the contrast should make the rest of yoru vehicle look comparatively dark :)
Nice work! Please do raptor chapter
Would love to see this tried with Biel tan
20:13 is where we go Salamander I'd say. Still love the result though!
