    I don't see how the total energy is negative KE

      Well if you were able to follow along to where we found that the total energy is -GMm/2r and that the kinetic energy is GMm/2r then they must be negatives of each other right? Unless you’re saying you don’t understand the physics behind why that is?

      GMm/r is kinetic. I thought that was always mv^2/2

      Ah I see. As I explained in my video, the velocity of an object in orbit is given by sqrt(GM/r) which you get by equating the centripetal force with the gravitational force. Then you just substitute that expression for the velocity into the equation for kinetic energy that you’re talking about (1/2 mv^2). I do explain it in my video but I highly recommend you try doing it yourself on some paper if it’s not quite making sense.

      lol not at all but I will say, at least personally, there comes a time when the maths and the details are more interesting than the big picture stuff. Keep at it
