The text means: "Scandia, or the three realms in the North: Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Dedicated to the most powerful and invincible Karl XII, king of Sweden, of the Goths and of the Vandals, Great-duke of Finland, etc. etc. etc. By his very humble and obedient servant, the Widow of Nicolas Visscher". (Visscher was a cartographer, probably the one who designed the map. He may have passed away before completing it, which could explain why it's the widow who wrote the dedication. He died in 1702). Your pronounciation is immaculate, bravo!
WELCOME BACK my friend. And so glad to see its a return to the classics...an old antique map? Delicate paper sounds and ASMRctica's soothing voice? It can't be beat. I've been away these days as well so coming back its like finding a goldmine of your recent videos. I will be asleep for days with all these incredible videos. I've yet to visit the Nordic countries but it looks so beautiful. I can only imagine what they looked like back in the 1700's. This video took me back to that time...fantastic work!
Hey Nathan! Great to hear from you :) So glad to hear your super nice feedback. Yes isn't it fascinating to look at those old maps! I love the colors in them too. Thank you so much :D
Great video and again an amazing map that you have found. Also good job on pronouncing Finnish, you explained the pronunciation of double letters well and correctly.
Loved this! here's a fun example of a Finnish word that changes meaning depending on the amount of vowels/consonants: tuli = fire (or the past tense of come) tulli = customs/tariff tuuli = wind
so glad to see a new video from you. and also because of you i will start to learn Swedish soon, just because it sound so nice. thank you for inspiring me and helping me sleep ❤️❤️
I think you really nailed the Finnish pronunciation. And yeah, you're right, there's a huge difference between the long and short vowels so it's important to really drag out those long vowels otherwise it sounds funny. In written language the long vowels (and consonants, by the way) are indeed marked up by a double letter.
Very nice! How far south does the map actually go? I guess it should include Estonia and probably even northern Latvia as well, since they were part of Sweden during that time.
Welcome back :D ! This ancient map with all its small details is very satisfying to look at, makes you want to learn more about the history that connects those neighbouring Nordic countries I cannot comment without mentioning how amazing your french pronunciation is! Well done and all my respect for learning our confusing sounding language 😊
Always wondering how many hours of work you’ve done to make these videos. So impressed ! Glad to be able to lean things so peacefully thanks to you ! Always hoping you’ll do one more video about solar system’s planet (mars was so interesting !) Never thought I could learn French things from a Swedish guy speaking English ! (And I’m so proud to be French !)
Haha, love to hear that about the french things :) Yeah I agree, topics about space are so interesting! I have to do another video about those topics soon! Thanks for your supportive feedback. Your question made me start to think about how much time it actually takes me to complete a video. If I exclude the research phase (that can last for several weeks, because I can find it so interesting) it can take me 3 days to complete a 1-hour video (if I'm lucky and work hard haha), and thus 6 days to complete a 2-hour video. And then I'll need to add extra time for reading and replying to your fantastic comments, and prepare the audio for Audio Streaming Platforms, etc etc. :)
Sounds like a full time job ! I’m looking forward for your next videos ! And so happy you put them on audio streaming platforms (not to mention one of them 😋)
Thanks! Glad yoi enjoy! It's ink directly from bottles, painted with a quite big brush. Different colours of ink mixed (blue, green, yellow, red, black etc)
Thank you my friend! I've been checking for a new video every day & am so so pleased to find this gem! Time to relax, listen, learn, wonder and sleep! So grateful for all of the work you put in your videos, they are always worth the wait.
Hi, love the video (as always) :)! Also, I've got a question concerning your maps and atlantes (atlases?): Where do you look for them? Do you get most of them in antique stores? Or of the internet? I'd love to be on the lookout for some myself but don't know where to start :D
Hey! Thanks for your comment and question! So glad to hear you like my content :D I have always kind of collected maps. Sometimes I find them in shops, this one for example is from a tourist shop. Atlases I usually buy online. Sometimes used, sometimes new. Sometimes I find a nice book at the library that I like so much, so I look for it online, and get my own copy of it. Physical Bookstores are also good inspiration for me.
Interesting how Oulo has changed into Oulu... Very relaxing video. Also, the only Brahe I can think of is Per Brahe who served as governor-general of Finland in 1600s. And B is not originally in the Finnish alphabet, so that's probably also why it was dropped from Raahe.🤔
Can't believe how close you are getting to 300k subscribers. I subscribed to your channel after I saw your original map of Europe drawing video 6 years ago and I think you had maybe 2k. Your channel has soared. You are the absolute best. Keep up the excellent work!
ive got to say as a native french speaker, your reading of that french note on the top was great amazing pronunciation there were some harder words in there
Also, weirdly we have divided our botnia into pohjois- and etelä-pohjanmaa, so southern and northern botnia. We don’t really acknowledge the botnia on your side of the pond in our names that much lol, except for the swedish names i guess.
Not me coming back to this video over and over to get inspiration for a fantasy world map I'm making! Thanks for going into such detail and close ups with maps like these! Not only tingly, but informative!
@@ASMRctica if you allow me to give you a small tip, "Nord" is pronounced "Nor", the d is here because of the word "Nordique" which means, you guessed it "Nordic"
A little random and off the wall, but have you ever thought about drawing the Hunt:Showdown map? It's a video game based in Louisiana. Pretty amazing game overall.
Random fact: Australia is actually wider than the moon. Australia is 4000km (2485 miles) wide. And the Moon is 3474km (2158 miles) wide.
Cool! Had no idea 😃
WOW!!! 😲
That's a very interesting thing to know! Thanks for the random fact!
Ok...
