Having finished the video I think I will check all of those out. Except for Lucifer, I still have a grudge against that one for turning one of the few true masterpieces found in comic books, spun off from Niel Gaiman's The Sandman no less, to turn it into a police procedural.

I watched so many of these "trash" series, more than I expected (3/5 is quite a few imo), and I think I agreed on your opinion on them. Another "trash" series I liked, that kind of fits in this series of series is Leverage (and the sequel Leverage: Redemption). It's got the Do Crimes part of Be Gay Do Crimes, and a little bit of the Be Gay too (especially in Leverage: Redemption). It feels conceptually like lovely anarchist "trash" (even if one of the actors turned out to be not so great, luckily they killed off his character for Redemption). No supernatural stuff in here though, so no zombies or something like that.
@@MainelyMandy I highly recommend it! It can be somewhat cheesy (but if you like "trash" that won't be a problem), but it has fairly good neurodivergent representation and it is like the opposite of a police show (well, almost always). And yeah, the sequel is fairly recent, season 2 finished airing last year and it has been renewed for season 3.

My Dad's sick and therapy feels platoing hard. I'm crying, my head hurts so much. Thanks for holding my hand a little.
If you loved Lucifer and you're looking for a police procedural with a similar vibe, try Castle. Rick Castle is a trashy adventure novelist who is tasked with helping the NYPD when someone starts to copy the murders in his books. He is a golden retriever, a himbo manwh**e, he comes up with the most ridiculous theories. But he's also a single dad to a studious teenager and a very good judge of character. The detective he works with is the dark and badass "Kate Beckett" who he decides to base his new books on. She's hot, she hates his guts (massive crush) and she's trying to solve her mother's cold murder. He makes her life more fun and their chemistry grows slightly with every episode. Worth a watch, even if it isn't as trashy as Lucifer

once again you seem to have looked around my brain and found the exact words i needed to hear. i should probably stop being surprised by now, but every time it hits me right in the heart. i've been feeling so guilty lately for going back to my favourite trashy romance series for comfort as the world seems to get darker every day, and as i struggle to figure out life now I've gone no contact with my mom (cannot wait for the inevitable cathartic tears at the next vid mao) and it was a very well timed reminder that sometimes the only way to keep going is to rest. thanks for another banger vid, looking forward to the next one 💜

I appreciate the recommendations (I'd never heard of the Warrior Nun!) and I hope this video helped you as much as it is helping me.
I've commented on this video way too many times, but I have one more trash show to recommend: Haven (2010-2015). A Stephen King adaptation in the form of a monster-of-the-week crime drama with a love triangle and a small-town-in-Maine setting. The premise of the show is that the town of Haven is plagued by impossible deaths like drowning on dry land or dying of old age overnight. These deaths are usually caused by a person with a Trouble, a controlled or uncontrolled magical power triggered by trauma. The detectives have to find who’s Trouble it is, and how to help the person. Some plots include: Teenager teleports a whole town into a snowglobe, Vietnam veteran accidentally teleporting people back to the 1960s, a cult of mermaids, a man manifesting a real spaceship to life and a group of naked savages who turn out to be dogs who were turned into humans by accident. And there's a pirate in the main cast. Need I say more?
I had a talk with my best friend the other day after I had the worst meltdown since my cat died before the pandemic, because I needed to put my head in order. It is all too much. The world IS on fire. But the reason why it hurts so much is because we know that all the people suffering have an inherent right to their lives, and not just survival, but to thrive. And that includes us. It's fucking hard right now. But joy IS an act of resistance.
@@MainelyMandy Ah, then I should mention the phrase is not exactly mine, although it is something I've believed in one way or another. It's paraphrasing the title of an album from a band I like. But I truly believe it

Smallville is my trash. Except for Allison Mack. We don't talk about Allison Mack. Allison Mack can't be saved, not even by Superman.
Something I had a harder time with was that I’m just allowed to like things. After being taught that earthly things are fleeting and it’s better to focus on eternity, learning to enjoy the here and now took so much effort. But now I can just like something and like it for what it is. Even if it’s temporary or silly.
For me, being able to enjoy anything comes with the fear of selfishness. Who am I enjoy something dumb when others don't, ya know? But you're right - everything is fleeting and temporary but that arguably makes it even more important to enjoy because we don't know when we'll lose it and when we have it, we should rejoice in being so lucky to experience it. Or at least that's how I look at it. I am rambling a bit....

I cant decide whether it really is trash or not but Sense8 is literally my favorite show I've ever seen 😩 Im more of a fantasy guy too, so thats kind of a weird choice, youd think my fav would be GOT or HOTD or something, but no, Sense8 makes me laugh and sob even though its 1) so ridiculous and 2) not at all actually about the plot its ostensibly about.
Ok, Sense8 is kinda trashy. lol But like in a high production kind of way? Idk, I just know some of the melodrama in that hits in just the right silly way
Re: iZombie last season, you're so right since Rob Thomas was working on the Veronica Mars revival. At least he gave the happy ending to the iZombie characters because Veronica wasn't that lucky 😬
I'm about to ruin the 69 comments displaying for me by adding my two cents, but this video by one of my favorite RUclipsrs on one of my other favorite subjects, Trash, has been a breath of fresh air! I'm a novelist-in-training, the universe has not been kind to me these past few weeks, and I strongly relate to that need to be perfect, productive, and unproblematic to an absurd degree! You get that well needed rest and enjoy some Trash TV!
The VelociPastor (2017) and Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (2015) are a great pair of bad movies. The one that started me on this trek though was Six-String Samurai (1998)
You've been gone? I heard your voice on a Hoots video. You introduced yourself in it as doing polyamoury videos. I was curious because of things going on in my own life. So I checked you out starting at the oldest video available on YT. It was about unicorn hunting. I haven't watched many of your vids yet. What I have seen has been about serious subjects, but your delivery is light hearted & funny while still staying informative. I was hooked on you immediately. But not in a creepy way... I think this is the first non-serious one I've listened to. It came up as a suggested video after watching another creator I follow, so I clicked on it. You seem to already grasp this, but not everything needs to be serious. It is completely OK to decompress. You seem to add levity to a subject all the time with your humor. You even have better jokes to do it with than I do. All that said, & to make a long comment longer... Seether's "Careless Whisper" is in fact better than WHAM!'s. Seether is alltogether underrated. I Zombie never looked that interesting to me. Now I am kicking myself for judging a book by its cover. I need to give it a watch. I saw Black Summer. Just never got around to Z Nation. Another failure on my part. I tried to give Zoo a chance. I read the graphic novel first. While I like to judge adaptations on their own merits as a completely different product, I just couldn't get into it. The book's plot also revolvled around environmental issues. It sounds like the show completely dropped that. Not necessarily a bad thing. Just pointing it out. Never heard of Warrior Nun. I need to watch this. I object to listing Lucifer as trash in any way. It is so far the best comic book adaptation on TV from either DC or Marvel that I can think of. Well, of the live action adaptations anyway. Certainly better than any of DC's other shows (not including the 1960's Batman). It helps that it wasn't produced on WB/CW. So it wasn't some Dawson's Creek with capes garbage. Garbage being an entirely different & very bad category from trash. Fun fact: Tom Ellis portrayed Lucifer in the Infinite Crisis TV crossover event. He acted circles around those Dawson's Creek with capes actors. Also,
Like any media that compares vampires or zombies to the marginalized, it is intrinsically couched in the depiction of the marginalized as parasites, and there is no getting away from that
very excited for this! if it's ok to ask, and please delete my comment if it's not, but are your episodes of respect the dead available on your patreon? I've recently discovered the podcast and i loved the banter between you guys, and i'm sure our episodes were as great as the rest! I would gladly pay to listen to the lost episodes tbh :D
Totally ok to ask. Sadly the answer is no. I don’t have access to those episodes anymore. It's too bad - there were a few in particular I was (and still am) quite proud of
huh what happened? Ive listened to a few of the episodes that were in youtube form (elliot rodger and graham linehan) but id been meaning to get around to it. Why were her episodes removed? Did something happen?
@zenmaster8 I follow all three creators. I've gotten the impression that they don't want to talk about why Mandy isn't on the current episodes, which can mean anything but truly means it they don't owe us an explanation. To be clear, I'm curious, too. I just didn't want you left wondering. I'm just happy all three seem to be thriving in their own ways.
Warrior nun, Lilith. Lorena Andrea was also "clocked as" a trans woman by the anti-woke people when they saw her poster as one of the mermaids for the live action film last year. I think it's fine to read characters as trans - but when a person, who doesn't look like the expectation of femininity, e.g. she has quite angular and sharp features, racially ambiguous, is being read as trans multiple times like this, I can't help to think that there is some racist misongyny at play. It doesn't have to be intentional, and there is a difference with the way you read her character Lilith as trans in a positive meaningful way to you compared to conservatives that is angry about kids movies having queer people in it and projecting it Lorena Andrea. Sorry, I'm not fully able to explain this, it just kinda rubs me an some way.
Thank you for your comment. I think I understand what your concern is and I appreciate you taking the time to bring it up. I can definitely see why I should be considerate of that. I think maybe I have just gotten so used to trans friends of mine sharing head canons like this that I didn’t even think of the history of gender criticals and "transvestigators" accusing women (especially women of color") of being secretly trans. The recent Olympics stuff certainly comes to mind though. So thank you and I will keep that in mind in the future.
It's amusing to me that this came up shortly after I watched an episode, which someone linked me to, of Square Pegs. A... different sort of trash show, perhaps, and certainly from a different era. Just... an interesting juxtaposition. Anyway, I definitely think it's totally fine that you went down a light topic for this one! And indeed, some say that one of the ways to think about Zombie movies is as a way to talk about real dangers in a way that's... less scary. (See, e.g., Beau at v=o-plIVJo0nw talking about preparedness skills.) Keep it up!
P.S. 1:13:02 - holy shit, I'm so here for that. I went no contact with my dad for 17 years. I've re-established it _a little_ now, but still keep it rather limited... and... yeah. Looking forward to hearing your story. Meanwhile, sending support!
Thanks David! I hope you like the next one. Interestingly enough, in addition to currently being no contact with my mom, I was also no contact with my dad for 17 years. No contact club, go! (Dad and I are speaking and even spending time together now)

I cant decide whether it really is trash or not but Sense8 is literally my favorite show I've ever seen 😩
Im more of a fantasy guy too, so thats kind of a weird choice, youd think my fav would be GOT or HOTD or something, but no, Sense8 makes me laugh and sob even though its 1) so ridiculous and 2) not at all actually about the plot its ostensibly about.
Ok, Sense8 is kinda trashy. lol But like in a high production kind of way? Idk, I just know some of the melodrama in that hits in just the right silly way
missed your videos
🎉 luv to see you ❤
Re: iZombie last season, you're so right since Rob Thomas was working on the Veronica Mars revival.
At least he gave the happy ending to the iZombie characters because Veronica wasn't that lucky 😬
True. I am happy at least everyone got to be content
2:04 seethed careless whisper cover is the only one I know and hell yeah it’s great
I'm about to ruin the 69 comments displaying for me by adding my two cents, but this video by one of my favorite RUclipsrs on one of my other favorite subjects, Trash, has been a breath of fresh air! I'm a novelist-in-training, the universe has not been kind to me these past few weeks, and I strongly relate to that need to be perfect, productive, and unproblematic to an absurd degree! You get that well needed rest and enjoy some Trash TV!
Aww thank you! I am definitely letting myself be trashy and resting with Lucifer today 😊
Well, I didn't get the notification for this one.
Stupid youtube 😭
@@MainelyMandy I low-key forgot it was a prerecorded video and got startled by you messaging me while turned away from your computer 😂
You said traitor and then it cut to an ad for The Traitors 😂
Catharsis for the catharsis god!
🙏
Oh I didn't know they made a show based on I zombie. Sounds really different from the comics though, they weren't police procedurals.
I LOVED Zoo.
0:00 me staring at the thumbnail trying to see if it contains thing I enjoy 👀
Who else is searching Seattle Zombie Woman And Got this Just Today?
The VelociPastor (2017) and Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (2015) are a great pair of bad movies.
The one that started me on this trek though was Six-String Samurai (1998)
omg a pepsi this one is starting out on the right foot
hard agree on the seether careless whisper
I'm glad I'm not alone
Also,
1:12 how would you know if I’m live? What if I’m dead inside?
😂
I am losing my mind at "Liv Moore"
Fillmore Graves!! 🤣
Like any media that compares vampires or zombies to the marginalized, it is intrinsically couched in the depiction of the marginalized as parasites, and there is no getting away from that
I LOVE TRASH TOOO!!!
Then you'll love this video
No mention of the polyamorous mermaid show about mermaids taking revenge on fishermen?
14:19 kinda looks like hughie from the boys lol
❤
very excited for this!
if it's ok to ask, and please delete my comment if it's not, but are your episodes of respect the dead available on your patreon? I've recently discovered the podcast and i loved the banter between you guys, and i'm sure our episodes were as great as the rest! I would gladly pay to listen to the lost episodes tbh :D
Totally ok to ask. Sadly the answer is no. I don’t have access to those episodes anymore. It's too bad - there were a few in particular I was (and still am) quite proud of
@@MainelyMandy oh :( well im looking forward to your new videos and in the meantime ill give a watch to your old ones as well ❤
huh what happened? Ive listened to a few of the episodes that were in youtube form (elliot rodger and graham linehan) but id been meaning to get around to it. Why were her episodes removed? Did something happen?
@zenmaster8 I follow all three creators. I've gotten the impression that they don't want to talk about why Mandy isn't on the current episodes, which can mean anything but truly means it they don't owe us an explanation. To be clear, I'm curious, too. I just didn't want you left wondering.
I'm just happy all three seem to be thriving in their own ways.
Lost Girl
Who's seen Lake Michigan Monster (2018)?
I haven't! I clearly need to change that
Oh yes, and soon!
Like what you like, but you are what you eat.
I hate that saying lol
jfc youre so funny
It's not okay if you don't want to look like trash and don't have the energy, the means and or help to change it. It that case it's not okay.
What?
(Dad and I are speaking and even spending time together now)
@@MainelyMandy no contact club... is it antithetical that we should start some sort of online communication realm for ourselves?!? ;) ;) ;) And... interesting parallel! Cool! I hope that the spending time together is going well. 💜
