My dad passed away the same year as Gene Wilder did due to his cancer and this song became really special to me as it reminds me of what my dad wants me to live in my own happiness and never be sad but I can't stop shedding tears whenever I hear this song 😭

I'm REALLY surprised that this video only has 1.6 million views and 15k Likes. This one song was the reason I bought the entire album. Josh's version of this song is truly incredible - his voice, emotions/feelings - everything that makes Josh "Josh" - in this song always brings tears to my eyes just from the power and beauty. I'd think it would have been more popular.

its so sad ...i was born in the mid 90s but i remember watching willy wonka, the Grinch, ghost busters, star wars, and other American classics time flies im 20 and 1/4 away... but after hearing about Gene Wilders death i began question whats the meaning of life, the purpose of my life? We all suffer and even good people have their time :/ i wish we all where more compassionate including myself and things where different

It is deliberately melancholic. The main inspiration was "Somewhere over the Rainbow" which is also a melancholic tune.
Songs like this were born during the great depression and the World Wars.... The song writer drew on his childhood experiences to create masterpieces like this and "the cardigan can".

when they say ur imagination creates ur reality they mean it, you can believe what ever you want, it don’t have to be true or wrong.
The colors scheme physically relaxes me, it's something about the colors that gives me some sort of flashback to my childhood, accompanied by Groban's beautiful singing make me feel what ever the opposite of depression is.
There he still had that tender shine in him beautiful eyes.
After hearing him singing this with the Muppets, I was hoping there was a video of him singing it without any Muppet shenanigans; so glad there was one. :)

This is the only arrangement of Pure Imagination I truly enjoy. Everything else is somewhat scary, but this just has a feeling that puts a smile one your face (which is what I feel is what the lyrics portray). Everyone has their own tastes, and this is mine. I love it!!! :)

First time I heard this was on The Royal Variety Performance and it just made me stop and listen to Josh sing this beautifully performed song which gave me tingles all over. The way he sang it was purely magical!!!!

This is sooo beautiful! When I saw that he was doing this song I was happy, but a bit skeptical cause Willy Wonka is one of my favourite films of all time. However, after I heard him sing it, all my reservations melted like chocolate. He has a stunning voice (he's one of my favourite artists) and does so much justice to not only the song but to Gene Wilder and the creators of the film as well. I cannot wait until this album comes out.
Since Gene Wilder died recently, this song has been going through my head a lot - plus Barbra Streisand is doing a duet using this song with Seth McFarland (another fantastic singer - the musical numbers of Family Guy are some of my favorites just to hear Seth's beautiful voice), I wanted to hear it so I just came to RUclips to see who has sung it and I see Josh Groban. I like Josh, I've always thought he has a fantastic voice - but I wasn't a true fan, just someone who liked his version of "The Prayer" with Charlotte Church. I watched his video of "Pure Imagination" and was totally blown away. Josh is a Powerhouse singer, he hits every key/note he can be beyond powerful and back it off to a very long, sustained, perfectly held ending that leaves one with tears in their eyes. He's grown into a beautiful man, gorgeous eyes that hit the camera just enough without overdoing the eye contact. Of course, I've now listened to a number of his other songs and some are great, I love them, some aren't for me - and such is life. Obviously there's NO comparing Josh's version with Gene's they are so vastly different and they both work for the reason intended. That's the wonderful thing about music, it can be twisted and turned to give it what you want, make it what you want, no 2 versions need be remotely close to each other. In this case, I love Gene's version for the scene and mood it was in, I love Josh's version for the same.

Oh, God, another one? I like the first purely because of this song, but I think it shouldn't have been a musical. The second was a lot closer to the book, but it suffered from the same problems most reboots do. What are they going to do with a third one?
