Great video Austin! You’ve sealed the deal, I’ll be putting this film on my Criterion wishlist for the next Barnes & Noble sale. A Kurosawa film you have to watch is Ikiru. It’s not a samurai film, but there are so many major themes you could discuss in that film. I highly recommend it.
Akira Kurosawa has so many iconic films. Here are two of his lesser-known films that you might consider checking out. Dreams (1990) is an anthology of shorts regarding dreams that Kurosawa had. Each segment has something beautiful, traumatic, thought-provoking, or chilling to experience. There is one about a boy witnessing a wedding procession of foxes, a Japanese commander haunted by his dead platoon in a tunnel heading home, an art student enters the work of Van Goh and meets up with the legend himself, and more. Then there is Rhapsody in August (1991) stars Richard Gere as the son of the protagonist’s brother, who is in Hawaii. He comes to visit the elderly Kane as a gesture to convince his aunt to go see his dying father, but there is tension between the two as memories of the war between Japan and America still hold fresh in her mind. Her husband was killed in the atomic blast in Nagasaki.
Thanks for checking out the video! I wasn’t sure if all the hype around the movie would deter my experience, thankfully it did not. If it had I think I would have at least respected it like you do.

Great vid! I’m not personally a massive fan of the film, but I do respect it
