- Hello everyone and welcome to new video. I tried to play Euro Truck Simulator 2 with Meta Oculus Quest 3 VR headset. How did I like it, is it any good? Is ETS 2 worth of playing with VR headset, find out in this video 😉
#eurotrucksimulator2 #vr #oculusquest
Have been playing on VR only for the last 3 years. Wouldn’t go back to screen only, the VR realism is amazing!
Absolutely agree! It’s awesome! I love the snow with the Frosty winter mod in VR. Next level stuff 😎🤘🏻
You guys are lucky af bro :)
And for how long van you drive, like two or three hours? No sick feeling? Cheers
@@clooneyclown Yup, you are spot on! Usually about three hours. I started with about 20 minutes for a few times. I would feel myself get a bit nauseous or flu like unwell. Then I built up to an hour for a week or two. After that I hardly ever have problems with nausea no matter how long I play.
So a slow build up is what worked for me. 😃
@@SilverlineNLthanks for this mate, Cheers
Ngl I've been playing ets2 for 6 years and I think that the feeling of driving a truck in the rain in the Scandinavian roads with some background music in vr is possible the best way to enjoy the game. I have never tried but with this video my mindset has changed a bit. I will consider buying the meta quest in the future (if my wallet likes the idea xd)
@@thegoya_ Ohh yes, that was very enjoyable drive
"wallet likes the idea" for sure. the one ETD has costs €549 base model I think.
I have been playing ET2/AT with Ouest 3, and it'a amazing. way more picture quality and performance than with Quest 2. I am also using VoiceAttack combined with telemetry server, for questions like how many hours to destination, set wiperts to automatic, open/close windows, truck status, remaining fuel, etc....
thats why i made the game to my real job :D
I started on flat, but I only had one monitor. Moving the mouse around to look around or having the virtual mirrors up was also annoying. I then tried a head capture app on my phone, and it made it better but it was still meh. I then decided to try it on the OG Oculus Rift CV1. It was good, the freedom was amazing, and I loved the feel of it, but being an old headset, its resolution was bad, and reading nearly everything was pretty hard due to the lenses and lower res. I then got a Q3 and never looked back. Setup is always a pain, its easier to sit down and look at flat panel, but the little bit of work the headset makes you, is fine with the immersion it gives. I lock my FPS to 60 in game, and on Nvidia control panel, for ATS/ETS I set it to 59hz. In game I have shadow quality set to medium, and I can't remember the one setting but I have it set to 300% and the game runs well. My CPU is very old, i7 6700k, but my gpu is not bad at 3080ti. Still some stuttering but its not terrible.
Any VR headset will be fine, if you have one or are ever thinking about getting one for this game alone, don't think about it just do it, you will not regret it.
does the same thing a cam and a couple of programs without spending money on glasses.
Subjectively I have to disagree. You can add the possibility of looking around with your described setup, but you will not add the immersion you get with a VR headset. If spending the money for the added immersion is worth it to you, obviously can vary greatly.
As for me the main problem in VR mode it is when you look to the objects in even in middle distance at you they look very terrible. They looks in ladder-flickering way an it is so pain for eyes to look long time for it, And some time if you stop very quick from high speed or you turn truck and move you head, or even not move smth you can feel not good. I played different active games in vr (not racing or car sim, but bike race fo expml.) and it is first when i feel bad if play more then 20-30 min because of than strange sence when turn left or right.
that ladder effect is called aliasing. Your PC is probably not good enough for this one in VR - VR is very demanding performance wise.
as for not feeling well, that's the famous VRgin motion sickness. Indeed, accelerations and turns trigger it more than linear motion. But here's the deal: you get used to it. A week or month in short, progressively longer sessions get you used to it and your body stops overreacting...
And what VR lacks in graphics quality, it makes up for in depth perception. I'll tolerate the aliasing as long as everything is in 3D on a 1:1 scale. When I have pedals, a wheel, and a shifter, I feel like I'm really driving that truck. It's great to be able to stay in the cab and not depend on different camera views to do difficult maneuvers. And I also have gotten used to the VR vertigo, which I've experienced in some flying sims. I simply cannot go back to flat screen.
@@scottytissue73 No, it's not. I know what aliasing is and I'm not talking about it. Yes, maybe the first impression can brighten up the shortcomings, but with prolonged play, it starts to cause physical discomfort, I'm not talking about "oh, the graphics are bad here" I'm talking about this. And getting used to it is just traumatizing yourself. It's not enough to just attach a VR function to old games, I think that you need to approach this issue more efficiently. Another point is that the game engine or the game's core may not be designed for this and / or it costs a lot of money that no one wants to spend. I am convinced that the larger the company, the greedier it is.
Oke nice, but a real truckdriver, looks at his trailer in de mirror when you turn, and also when get past an other truck. You always want to know what your trailer is doing. Tip for realism. Orherwise why bother in creating the perfect setup if you don't drive it the right way😊. Hope they make a better vr soon for you guys and ladies afcourse.
@@Necatto Regarding Aliasing: You likely do actually experience aliasing. Yes, you said you know what it looks like, but what you likely know is one kind of aliasing. Aliasing generally is nothing more than under-sampling, meaning: You have some source / domain with a high "resolution" (does not need to be an image) and you take points from it to estimate that high-res domain with a lower resolution. For some sources this works fine, for others it works horribly. When you said you know what aliasing looks like, you likely mean edge-aliasing, where an edge of an object looks very pixelated. This is one form of aliasing. There are other forms of aliasing as well. This can be texture, highlights or shadows. By upping you resolution scale and upping you Anti-Aliasing setting in the ETS2 settings this should improve (although at the cost of quite a performance hit).
Regarding motion sickness: As @scottytissue73 explained, this is something you can get used to. For some people its worse, for some its better, for some it is non-existent, but you can get used to it regardless. And no, its not "traumatizing", it is simply making you body understand that the difference in perception of what you see and what you feel is nothing to be concerned about. Learning and traumatizing are two very different things.
Finally in my honest opinion ETS2 / ATS VR (subjectively) are some of the best VR games out there. And exactly because they used an already existing great game and added the possibility to immerse yourself even further. You don't need a new game to make it a great VR experience. It can even make it worse. A lot of current VR games generally are rather meh. The only reason they are bought is because they are VR, not because they are a generally good game. Enabling VR in already fun games will give you not only an enjoyable VR experience, but also a generally great gaming experience.
I play ATS only in VR…..I have a RTX4080 and I am constantly chasing frames….the change to 1.5 hurt, so I am hoping the fix this soon.
@@greatkingrat I hope that too, we still don't have VR support for v 1.51 in ETS 2
I run strictly VR on Quest 2. I run my Debug only on locked 45 fps but ASW is enabled. Hardly any stutter at all and looks smooth. I have strong aliasing but the depth perception that VR offers is worth it. I see a lot of simmers spending thousands on a multiple monitor setup but they are still viewing the game in two dimensions which is a dealbreaker for me. Once you go VR it's hard to go back. I could not properly do backing maneuvers on a flat screen. With VR I stay in the cab as in real life. Headtrackers for flat screens are unnatural and cumbersome. VR to me is the best realism possible.
@@scottytissue73 Hi, I agree, depth perception in VR is something else. What version of the game are you playing on?
@@EuroTruckDriver365 I do ATS 1.50 but it's the same experience for me. Almost every day for a year and I'm just as addicted. I may get ETS 2 in the future, I know I would highly enjoy it. I just can't get enough of ATS tho! In VR it is a huge stress-reliever for me. It has led me to pursuing a CDL in real-life so nothing but positive effects.
I've been trying Metaquest3 for a while, But I'm back with LG Oled and Tobii eyetracker. VR still has room for further improvement.
interesting I have a complete setup with real steering wheel shifter etc but with a 24" curved screen I had never thought of playing the game in VR it could be really interesting

it is different then normal screen resolution, more blurry, yes, but on highest VR resolution on Quest 3 is quite good
Hello friend, congratulations on the video! Few people who use VR on ETS2 or ATS have commented that they experience some crashes like you mentioned. I actually went through this in tests done with the Quest 2 and 3 that my brother has. The purpose was to be able to test it to decide on buying one for myself. In my tests they were not satisfactory due to the crashes, I configured them in several ways and none of them resolved the stutters. This was the point that I didn't like about ETS2e ATS. Furthermore, even though there is a bit of aliasing on the grids that don't happen on the Computer, the feeling of being inside the truck's cabin is fantastic, but I know that the optimization is hampered by the Quest, which doesn't fully benefit from the hardware in these two games. I tested it on Project Cars 2 and it was another experience, FPS remaining at an average of 70 FPS with graphics at maximum and everything running smoothly... it would be a dream to play ETS2 with this fluidity, then the experience would be 100% fantastic. I would like to test them using Virtual Desktop, as they claim to solve these crashing problems, as it optimizes the game more, leaving a slightly higher and more stable FPS rate without the crashes, which is the weakest point of this game in VR. As I was unable to test it, I have not purchased my Quest 3 until then. I hope that in the future, as SCS is working on game optimization improvements starting with version 1.51... over time, multicores will be used effectively to provide more performance. Anyway, if you can test using Virtual Desktop it might solve your problems, but it will cost you to buy it. Anyway, good game play for you...
@@rodrigobarrowdasilva23 Thank you! I agree with everything you said, playing other newer games with vr is totally different experience than ETS 2. I hope that ETS 2 will update to dx12 so we can fully enjoy in vr experience
Been using virtual desktop for a long now, with modded ets, promods and whatnot, no crashes. Basically whenever I want play vr on pc I boot virtual desktop
@@anonumus10, the other games that have a native VR version even play well with other apps as well as Quest Link itself. You comment only reinforces that to have a satisfactory (good / great) experience when playing ETS2 and ATS without crashes and fluid, Virtual Desktop is necessary.
Thank you for your comentário, now I know that with Virtual Desktop I will solve the problem and I will have the experience I have in other games also in ETS2.

dude i have a quest 2 laying around that has been collecting dust for the past 3 years, i've been playing ETS2 and ATS for so many years and for so long and i got trackIR for it for the immersion of it and i didn't even know it actually supports VR wtf

Haha, it's never too late, hope you will like it!
Bom dia amigo eu jogo com quest 2 gostaria de saber qual seria a distância entre quest 3
I didn't ever tried Quest 2, but what I heard Quest 3 have much better resolution compared to Quest 2

Which storage version of Quest 3 you use? Is there a consierable difference between 128, 256 and 512GB versions if used only for ETS2 and ATS?
I have 128gb version, but for ETS or ATS you don't use storage space of Quest. They are pc games
To play Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck you do not install the games in VR, but play on your Computer, so the storage size that the Quest has is irrelevant in this case and any other game you play on the Computer. The Quest's internal storage is more of a concern in games installed directly on it, so choosing models with greater capacity is very important if you are going to use it in this way.
