  • Opened by Queen Elizabeth on the 4th March 1963, Northcott was built as part of the NSW Government's Slum Replacement Program. The main building was state of the art - Australian 60s style - 428 units with pastel colourings, individual kitchens and high-speed electric lifts.
Northcott is one of Sydney's most famous and infamous buildings. Born as a dream solution to the post-war public housing crisis ... years passed and that dream became a nightmare. The building became synonymous in the public mind with suicides, murders and drug deals..But now the residents are working hard to turn that perception around.
