      My brother in elgin sends me this link. Just out of the blue. Whatever. I have pictures of our Dad and his crew building those rocks. All hand bent iron, metal lath, and plaster. They're hollow. It doesn't last forever, over 40 years old. The Demon will most likely be refurbished into another coaster. Same ride, different theme. 40 years is a good run. I'll always have a bunch of pictures of it all being built.

    For generations, Demon has been everyone's second non-kiddie coaster after Whizzer. I think Demon is safe for now. Why would they start demolishing something this far in advance? And SFGAm has lots of other space available for a new coaster.

    • @wiredtvcraze
      @wiredtvcraze Месяц назад

      I'd think they learned from the Whizzer to keep old time favorites of so many families for so many years. But I can see a possible ground up rebuild to make it more cost effective for them and easier to maintain and maybe give the Demon ever more fun turns and dips and thrills for years to come.

    Demon is NOT getting removed. It's staying put for a while, just currently SBNO. I talked to a Great America ride operator at Kings Island, and he told me that Demon has been closed because they were having issues with the lift hill motor that got recently replaced. It has not been starting up in the morning, as the controller was not compatible with it, so they moved that motor over to Goliath which does have a compatible controller with that motor. They are currently waiting for a new motor that is compatible with Demon's controller. He said if they can't then they're going to either reprogram the ride or take it out which will not happen for a while.

    I rode Demon in 2018 and 2019 and I love it! Number one, it's an Arrow. They have quick, abrupt transitions that just have a unique feel, love em or hate em. The lights and special effects on it are fun, too. We need rides like this around and going by how many have bit the dust, preservation should be a priority for those that remain.

    Insider here, you had almost exactly right around the 2:50 mark, but I’ll give you the full story:
    - Demon originally was not going to open this year due to staffing issues. It wasn’t going to be removed, just SBNO. The same thing was done with other less-popular rides like Mardi Gras Hangover, the park’s Larson Loop.
    - The park figured out it had enough staffing and decided to move it weekend-only operations
    - Finally the park determined it had more than enough staffing and decided to open Demon full time
    - Sometime in July Demon went down for the season, I asked around to see what was going on, had trouble getting a straight answer but it seemed clear that Demon was staying at least another year.
    - Finally heard from a reputable source that there were some issues with the rock work on Demon, not sure on the exact issue but presumably rock work falling off and coming too close to the track.
    Here’s some other misc rumors relating to Demon and a potential 2025 coaster:
    - There were a lot of inside rumors circulating about the park getting a dive coaster next season which obviously didn’t happen. However I did hear that surveyors were brought in to examine the Go Kart plot, and that area is getting a revamp next year with a new restaurant so that sounds like the most likely location.
    - The park is also internally treating Buccaneer Battle like it doesn’t exist anymore, which opens up more land in that area. Any mention of it has been removed from all certification tests.
    - Demon was originally supposed to get the axe in 2019 for Maxx Force, which was originally going to be a much larger project that would’ve hit a top speed of 120 mph. This obviously didn’t happen but I’ve heard rumors that Maxx Force’s launch system is still technically capable of reaching this speed, but is capped for obvious reasons.

    • @Tomiaccc
      @Tomiaccc 8 месяцев назад +3

      I worked here this summer as a ride op in the area and I had info about the breaks apparently being broken also and the cost of staffing and everything was too expensive and they opened the Giant Drop and closed the Demon because of staffing and I op’s the Giant Drop and had Co-Workers at Demon telling me tea.

    I think I've had three visits to Great America this year, and Demon was closed each time. Beyond that, the track is in terrible shape. It's rusting, And I've seen some areas where it's rusted straight through. Demon needs some track work, It doesn't even look safe to ride. Perhaps they're cutting away some of the rock work to do the track work that's needed. Or maybe they're tearing it down and preserving some sections that are still good for use on other Arrow coasters. Time will tell. Historically Six Flags has been known to renovate some of its older and unique coasters.

    • @tigerrocks503chase8
      @tigerrocks503chase8 8 месяцев назад

      On my trips it didn’t seem that rusty, there were som patches of reddish brown but I think that’s the black paint peeling away showing the color the track was prior to being painted. When the ride was being built prior to the parks opening all the track was a reddish brown color and it was painted white on site and then black in 1980

  • @wiredtvcraze

    I'd really hate to see it go. I remember back in the days long ago, there was a place called "Old Chicago", which was essentially an amusement park inside a very huge building. This ride was there first and it was called "The Turn Of the century" which I rode back then. Yeah, a coaster inside a building, what a cool ideal. Well, then "Old Chicago" shutdown and I guess Great America purchased it and called it by that same name "Turn Of the Century" only have those corkscrew loops. Then they upgraded the ride into the Demon, adding on the two loops and the new theme. What an awesome upgrade I thought! Now here we are at the end I guess. Thank goodness they kept the Whizzer. I was hoping they'd just rebuild the demon from the ground up and make it even better with today's technology. We can only hope I guess.

    It’s ironic that the family coasters are always the most rough because they are so old. Demon could be replaced by a new vekoma or a single rail or so many other options. I hope it’s not short and low capacity because that park has way too many short rides with only two train operations. I really think they need, a giga or a re-track of American eagle

  • @betsieswartz
    @betsieswartz 8 месяцев назад

    As someone who has great America as my home park, I have visited it 3 to 4 times in total. (I haven’t been an enthusiast for long). I can say that I’ve ridden every coaster, even Sprocket Rockets and Little Dipper, except for Demon. Every time, it was closed. One time, it was running earlier in the day but when we got to it, it was closed. Never seen it running since. My hope would be one of three things, with the first two being more realistic. I’m thinking a custom layout raptor like Jersey Devil, or a B&M dive. I think they could do something better than Dr. Diabolical, but maybe not to the caliber of something like Valravn or Yukon Striker. I would prefer if it broke the 200 foot mark, as Raging Bull is currently the only hyper in the park. My pipe dream, which is more realistic due to the new Flash coaster opening, would be a full scale, honest to god, new-gen Vekoma. Something to rival Steel Vengeance. They could do magic in that plot, and possibly have one of the best coasters in the world if they get it right. Obviously it’s just wishful thinking, but a man can dream. RMC’ing American Eagle would also be great. Just something to get excited over would be nice.

    I love your videos with the concepts and predictions so don’t be mad with me but your titles sometimes can be very misleading when you put that the coaster is “Getting REMOVED for 2025 new coaster” I’m thinking wow they removed it but they haven’t yeah they could one day soon but not as of this moment. Please don’t hate me I love your videos just wanted to point out how this could be clickbait

    From what I understand I heard rumor that Demon's lift motor broke down twice this year after getting replaced not too long ago. So this is possibly true due to the fact that the ride has been shut down for a number of times as of late which gave out speculations that the ride would be retired soon but at the same time with the ride of being out of service this could also be Great Americas opportunity to give Demon the long-awaited restoration it needs. Now if this rumor is true then it is safe to say that Demon is indeed safe.

    I grew up riding Demon and have great affection for it. That said, it reached a point where I stopped riding it because the head banging got way to sever, especially during the corkscrews. I don’t think I’m the only one he feels this way, because the lines for this ride are almost always nonexistent. That huge plot of land could be better served with a great new top of the line coaster.
