I've listened to Become Ocean several times - a unique and amazing piece! The way the composer describes it here, everything makes sense; it's as if I had already heard this interview. It seems he has had some profound experiences with nature and was able to articulate them in musical form. Wh en I listen to Become Ocean, I get that same feeling of timelessness and infinite as with Ligeti's Atmospheres.
But if he thinks there are no more beautiful sounds than the sounds made by nature, how can he find any point in composing music? I mean if he knows that whatever he writes will never sound nearly as good as some wind blowing or a babbling river or something then what’s the point. We should all just go and sit by the river and listen to that.
