So it's true what they say in Initial D, in rally the 86 is used way more in the 2 doors sedan configuration instead of the 3 doors hatchback for its stiffer chassis...
@@rqlbto yeah, that's what they say. But be aware of some things: in rally its true, only the 2-door sedan was used for that same reason, but in Touring events on track they both used the 3-doors hatchback and the sedan version, in Group A (in both cases they were always Levin instead of Trueno, and let's be clear, the first was way less popular and less used, ran mainly by GB-private teams - even if i agree on the best aero efficiency -, and the latter was semi-official and appeared in many more events). I've done some research before writing this.
It’s probably straight cut gears in the transmission that make the whirring sound, they use straight cut gears to cut down on weight. Just my take, anyways.
@@followtheciaence people have both turbo and supercharged the AE86. The 4AGE engine is actually pretty good for that sort of thing. It’s mostly stuff like the drift cars that have forced induction for these Toyotas though.
it's not true, the 86 has two models, the Trueno, which is the famous one with the pop-up headlights, and the Levin, which has some different characteristics but performance-wise, the same car.

Also the three-door hatches were never sold in Finland, (and Europe at all) so it is easier to make a rally car out of one.
The 3 door is mainly use in circuits because of the aerodynamics, 2 door is mainstream in rally and gymkhana because of the stiffer body.

They probably used the levin sedan since its cheaper.
@@astridi6516 LHD three door hatch was sold as GT Corolla in Europe; but never with Trueno front, only Levin.
AE86, one tough and durable car
After all it's a Toyota
@@siz_tan and it came out in the same decade as the top gear hilux

Where's that?
It's not everyday to see naturally aspirated cars do rally. These are NAs, right?
most likely not
Yes.
You can hear a whine sound at times so some of these might be turbocharged or supercharged
You can see them at every rally lol
Not all, on few you could hear the turbo whistle
Does anyone know the names of any rally builders in Finland 🇫🇮 for AE86 and what the best gearbox to use is? A Lampolla Dog box?
Very nice
Vroom vroom

Are a lot of these supercharged? Is that what I'm hearing?

My Friend called this a Ae85, It's because of the looks, the "real ae86" have pop up headlights, and this dont, so is it true?

also some 86s are notchbacks and some are hatchbacks. most of the ones in this video are levin notchbacks
@@FilipeaKaKaneki2016 tnx,
the difference between the 85 and 86 is just the engine i think. they both came in models with fixed headlights and popups
