That's fine thanks, Am a ex inf soldier so found it interesting in how the US troops on the ground would send out that signal to the Huey's back in the day. Worked it out thanks.
Very nice Wess, I just posted earlier in the forums asking for someone to please make a video about this kinda stuff so thanks a lot, Keep them coming pal, Cheers, Mick. :)
Not sure I understand your question. I think DCS just assumes that all units have radios or something. In the Huey there's a setting (T/R+G) that allows you to send/receive on the UHF as well as the guard channel ( if the Transmit-Interphone Selector switch is set appropriately.)
Thanks for the heads up, I never realised troops could transmit! I am interested in how you got the troops to transmit on VHF. I tried the unit to transmit command in the Mission Editor, gave them the frequency 40.00 VHF, but couldn't get the direction gauge to tune in. Thanks!
This was helpful thanks. How did you set up the troops to transmit the signal in mission editor? I tried that with no success. Maybe post a sample on DCS forum of mission you used.
You can download all my missions off the DCS forums. Go into the mission editor and have a look around at how I did it, thats how I had to learn to do it, also they are a bunch of threads on the board on different ways to set it up.
Hey Wess could you make a quick vid on how to install your missions...I am unable to join the DCS/Belsimtek forum to ask you...I need to be pointed in the right direction ..
So I'm playing online in a sever and spawn a huey at the airbase you are currently flying over on the video. I even downloaded your file to make sure I had the right frequency. I auto start my huey and then tune the radio exactly as you do. I'm getting a signal and everything but the needle does not move....It has been driving me crazy.
Pedro Amaral I know at the time I made these video the homing functionality wasn’t fully implemented. Home mean to home in on a frequency. Not an actual home waypoint.
Just download them and pay attention which of your directories it downloaded to. Within DCS goto missions and navigate to that directory in which it downloaded to.
They're a list in the game directory somewhere, I also included a list of them in the info. I don't believe it shows all of them within the map screen.
I like the resolution in your video. I have a 4K Seiki TV which gets 30kz max at 4K. I am using SLI with GTX 970's. Is there anything in the setup menu that i should be checking besides 3840x2160 to achive the best resolution?
The bigger problem would be your 30 fpm limitations. I run duel monitor so my res is weird. When I run single monitor I just use the max, which for me is 1080p
jojo the circus boy Thanks m8, I got it working!! I didnt realize you needed to import your own .wav file to hear the sound :). However it doesn't seem to work online.
jNS278 as I understand it, it's used as a cross band repeater of sorts. Not only is it not simulated we don't have real comms in the sims. The various aftermarket voice apps I'd think could build it in. Really only useful if you're out of range of a transmission source.
here is an updated video I made for version 1.5 that will cover nav systems in detail. "huey navigation and com's tutorial" on RUclips ruclips.net/video/wIlPNz2I6oY/видео.html
still super helpful almost 8 years later. Thanks
You're welcome. was thinking of making navigation tutorials for all modules. someday I'll get around to it.
@@wess24m that would be awesome. I really need to learn more about nav for the A10 and F18 haha
Thank you for AN/ARC-131 FM navigation explanation.
You're welcome.

Thank you for making this such a short video! That was exactly what I needed to know. Subscribed!
KC Drugdog you’re welcome. One of these days I’ll get back into dcs.
No problem. more to follow, since I left out VOR navigation i'll probably make a video for that as well. Stay tuned.
Very nice Wess,

Nice Tutorial man, simple and effective. Thanks mate.

I'm going to try to figure out the UHF ADF settings today, the manual doesn't go into detail about all this stuff so I have to figure it out as I go.

How do you know, that is has to be 4, that you give in the FM? I found no list about it. Thx for the video!
What would the troops on the group be using to activate it an emergency channel on VHF?
if there is a server message, that someone requires SAR and there is a beacon with a given freq. eg. 510 kHz ... how do I fly to that beacon?
Where did you get 430 for Batumi from?
Nice tutorial. One question: why everybody set 4000 fm radio for home? Its for all map? Home can be another place?
Pedro Amaral I know at the time I made these video the homing functionality wasn’t fully implemented. Home mean to home in on a frequency. Not an actual home waypoint.
Thanks Bro good to go now ..Hope to see more of your missions.

Victor Leonard I just saw your 4k part. I'd sacrifice resolution to the highest you can set your video display so you can get 60 fps.
Can you post this mission file? I am trying to get the radio nav working to a group of troops and I cant seem to get a signal from them.
Thanks
Dont have the mission file vit if you look through my videos I posted a tutorial to make one with troios broadcasting adf to the huey
jojo the circus boy Thanks m8, I got it working!! I didnt realize you needed to import your own .wav file to hear the sound :). However it doesn't seem to work online.
Mark Ruhland I heard it didn't work online. It used to, hopefully they're fix it
is the RETRAN function (AN/ARC-131 VHF FM) simulated? manual says you need 2 FM radios(only 1 installed on huey?!) with 3~MHz divergence...
jNS278 as I understand it, it's used as a cross band repeater of sorts. Not only is it not simulated we don't have real comms in the sims. The various aftermarket voice apps I'd think could build it in. Really only useful if you're out of range of a transmission source.
ok thanks..just wanted to know..(im not familiar with DCS..)
Thanks, helped me a lot.
Hey man thanks for posting this..
Where is the radio to contact ATC ????????
I see you have the same trouble as me setting the frequency!
It is a really horrible dial to use becauseit is only labeled every 3 numbers.
Thanks, this was really helpful!
Updated with list of NDB in my video description.
