The Task is Herculean, the person handling it damned near a deity and yet they get all the stick, well they do bring it on don't they? I could never be a quizmaster, I'm not very managerial, I'm more of a drone in a cubicle type with all the answers in my head.
Did a picture round once that was flags of countries. Thankfully they weren't in black and white, but the lighting in the pub was terrible and we were really struggling to identify some of the flags. Someone took out their phone (sneakily) to turn on the torch so we could see the flags better. THE COLOURS ALL CHANGED. They looked completely different in the light and we had to redo most of them 😆
agree! There's also a ton of great comedians on tik tok - would love to see this one and them all get a TV break rather than see the same old tired faces..I hardly tune in anymore.
last pub quizmaster I encountered was the living embodiment of Frank from The Thick Of It. "The first rule, ladies and jellyspoons, is we will Have Fun. The second rule: phones in pockets! hahahaha."
Never been in a pub, don't think there are many of these in my home country to begin with, and yet I was so immersed in this. She definitely has natural performance talent.
Really enjoyed this! I run a quiz night and love the banter. Don't forget to ban team names like 'the Four Skins' and announce attractions like the 'Staff Formation Dance Team', Helicopter Rides from the Car Park and the 'Late night Minibus to Pennington Flash Car Park at 11:30'. One team recently left, and looking for a pub, are the 'Mad Biker's' who are NOT Hells Angels but are 'Lycra Clad Septuagenarians' who feel the need to put 'Mad' in their team name to feel relevant. Happy to help and Dave Doubledecks will be on after 'Play Your Cards Right' 😁😁😁
On occasion the pub quiz I attend has a Harry Potter round and everybody looks at me, groans and throws their pencil down. It’s the only one I win every time, though I’m rubbish at everything else.
I shall think of this when I'm at my local pub quiz tonight, where one of the regular teams is indeed called Quizteama Aguilera. Not my team, I hasten to add.
Try a Dutch pubquiz in my town where the quizmaster does this all, but also stumbles from Dutch to broken English and back again for a mixed Dutch/international crowd..
I wish the quiz masters round my way were this good. I'm going to one tonight at the Heritage Centre. Maybe I'll call my team Quiztina Aguilera to brighten things up, give everyone a laugh.
These make my day. I only know pub quizzes from TV really though my friend in England invited me to an online one their local pub in Bath was doing during Covid. I joined a couple of times. It was fun but I sucked 😂

Not a UK pub quiz but my favorite trivia group name was in the American South, they called themselves the Crystal Methodists.
We (the good Christian students that go to the local Methodist church) talked about forming a university Methodist society - MethSoc for short.

Only ran a quiz once. The tie breaker question to find the winner caused a row. Her barely concealed contempt for the quiz teams is well founded.
I live in America and one of my teachers came for Northern England and she would do quizzes like this and she was identical to this.
